1947 56C Project "Can't finish unless you start"
jackofalltrades70 replied to jackofalltrades70's topic in Me and My Buick
I took apart both of the upper seat backs tonight and removed all of the 3 layers of upholstery from them. The original fabric was in pretty decent shape so I am gonna be able to get some good patterns. Now.....................gonna learn how to sew..................Nothing I've done so far has skeered me, so sewing should be a walk in the park........ -
Nice! I like to see a guy not afeeeeeerd to get into sheetmetal work. A couple hours a day and you'll get along just fine! Matt

HOW DID YOU BECAME A BUICK LOVER.......
jackofalltrades70 replied to smithbrother's topic in Me and My Buick
We never had any Buicks............Dad had a 53 Pontiac Chieftain that he took in a swap for a riding mower he was selling. Motor had a "noise" when driving down the road sometimes, but not always. I found the problem when I was 14. Pulled the oil pan and removed the "old" oil pan bolts from the oil pan. Someone left them in there and replaced with new ones. I've always loved the in the grill of the 40's Buicks, so I finally am fulfilling my desires with my convertible. Matt:D -

I conditioned the metal and worked on it all day and this is what I came up with. Still have to install the carpet on the rear of the seat, but I made a lot of progress today........Matt:D -

Thanks to progoofoff, I finally have a seat frame with which to work with. I pulled the old covers, (plural) off of the frame. Leopard skin, grey vinyl and cloth. Original and 2 covers. Took some time to analyze the situation, but I was able to cut parts off of another frame on the top, the power seat section and weld everything together. Had to cut holes for the seat switch and the courtesy lights. You get the jist from the pictures. First set of pictures first.......... Matt:eek: -
Nick, Having it home is your first challenge! And look, you've already whipped it! Now, onward and forward. Looks great! Say hi to your father from us! Can't wait to meet. Matt

Mike, Buickful craftsmanship! You are a very talented individual and are to be commended on your work! And to think you took your car apart to have the pattern................WOW! Thanks for the update. Matt:D -
Went out to a local car show tonight. Since my car isn't finished yet, I drove a 47 Dodge Convertible. Went to the show with the owner of the 33 Rolls Royce, who is the owner of the 47 Dodge also. The only Buick I saw there was this little fella. Can't wait until my 47 is ready so I can get it out to the shows!!!! Matt:D

You are now "close to home" for me. My parents lived in Arkansas about 25 min. from Branson. My mother worked in Branson and we loved visiting every chance we could to see the shows or visit Silver Dollar City. My mom was born and raised in Hannibal and I have a lot of memories from both cities. Thanks for the "reflection time". Matt:D -
I have found that if I post that I am looking for something, then someone will contact me with the item I am looking for, or know someone who has it! Some items just aren't available. I still purchase on ebay and my last listings of "for sale items" are petering out of time. We have "fishers" here on the buy/sell forum, but they are easy to figure out. I do more searches on Craiglist than anywhere. Only problem is that items stay "listed" after they are long gone and you really have to file through a lot of expired listings. Matt

1947 Buick Series 50 conv. hydraulic pump problem
jackofalltrades70 replied to a topic in Buick - Post War
Have you checked the suction tube and end pick-up piece on the tube? It sounds like the brake fluid may have caused a small hole in the tube, thus the problem you are having. I may be wrong, but that is where I see this going. You might not be able to see it if the fender is still on the car. You might even consider changing over to ATF fluid, as it is less corrosive. Matt:D -
Thanks Nick for the help on the carpet set! I hope that things go well with the build. Are you gonna be keeping the car in Carbondale? Maybe we'll meet up sometime and get to see each others rides. Would love to meet you and your father as well. Matt:D

Kanter was very responsive when I talked with them today! Very impressed by their customer service and the quick response. After revising all of the pictures and measurements, they are making another set for my car. That is what customer service is about! I also had a very nice conversation with Mr Bob Coker today. What a wonderful person. Great personality and cannot wait for Hershey to actually sit down and talk a little more. I actually have a very nice set of bumpers with very minimal damages. I will try to repair the few dents that are on the bumper horns. More news later................................
