lamboryta
I've noticed since we jumped to this new format the times of postings are strange. I live in EST which is -5UTC, the clock on this forum seems to be at -2UTC. This would place it in somewhere like Greenland or maybe Iceland. Again, just curious. John_S_in_Penna
Hi, Ryta! Be careful of using abbreviations, since they are often ambiguous. I thought your mention of "EST" was "Eastern Standard Time," which is used throughout the eastern quarter of the United States. After a while, it dawned on me that you probably meant Estonia. I haven't noticed any disparities with the time, since I see the time at the bottom of my screen from the Windows operating system. Have others had a problem? Terry Bond
Who cares? When I'm on the forum time stands still. Other than that, how many days until Hershey? Terry

Terry I actually booked my room to-day for Hershey. As for the forum time like you say time stands still as people from around the world are on day and night. Frank DuVal
EST and -5 UTC means eastern standard time. Estonia would be +2 from UTC. Us old folks know UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) as Greenwich Mean Time! I posted to see what time (hover mouse over Posted X ago) my post said, and it was in EST. I think there was a setting for your preferred time in the "settings" when you sign up for the forum. Should be able to change it. mike6024
When I hover the mouse over your "posting time" it gives me that time in PST, Pacific Standard Time.
vermontboy
UTC is the same as GMT ??? Why would they have changed something that has been in use for hundreds of years ?? I had no idea what UTC meant.
Bloo
The nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from! Edited January 3, 2018 by Bloo (see edit history)
mike6024
I got made fun of the first time I pronounced Greenwich. I pronounced it like it meant a Green Sandwich, a Green-wich. And most of the time we are sort of correct. GMT is a time zone that has the same time as UTC. GMT is used in other places in Europe and Africa as a time zone and never goes to daylight saving time. But Britain and other places do go to Daylight Saving Time, but they are not then on GMT. UTC is an international standard and is not the official time of anywhere. Anyone familiar with the radio stations broadcasting time pips? The only voice is telling us the time. I remember hours listing to them with the stop watch doing star observations during my surveying degree. Yep, posted time are in local time of reader when one hovers over them.
