Include a section for British Automobiles

Hello Folks,

This AACA forum is one of my favorite places, for locating, seling or networking with others who also enjoy a similar and specific area of the hobby that I do. I enjoy a wide interest ranging from Brass Era, Classic, Sports, Commercial and have just joined a select group of enthusiasts who have chosen to own a British manufactured automobile. Now to the point, could it be a possibility to establish an British or foreign section in this forum that could assist we Americans, and everyone, in networking with each other for information sharing as well as parts locating and selling of spares. What do others who use this forum think?

Regards, Alan

Do I understand you to say that you object to diversity? How would a wider base be harmful to the Forum? I appreciate all automobiles. They are globally linked in some manner. I own a Porsche as well as some American iron. I'm looking for a British car. I'll bet there are others that post here that also have, or have had, a Porsche at one time in their life. Isn't an antique Porsche as much an Antique Automobile as an American car of the same era?

I think their should be a British, German, French, Italian..........heading, at least available for people to post a question. I can't understand how that would dilute the quality of the Forum.

IMHO it's like tv. If you have no interest, skip it.

And yes, I too think that categories like you describe are ludicrous but some diversity couldn't hurt. It's a real big world out there. Talking about imports can't hurt. What is American Made anymore, anyway? Show me a car that has all US made components?

Barry, I think you misunderstood my last post. I can hold a conversation on any pre 1940 automobile I don't care what country it was made in. If every car gets its own Forum who will bother to post or read the AACA Forum? If they come up with a 1950's Lincoln Form we will loose you, correct? The AACA Forum should be a mix of all makes for a better first impression to a new visitor in my opinion. If anyone cares to talk about my old 1912 AC or 1933 Lagonda projects they can post that question on the AACA Forum, the 1948 MG-TC sold at Hershey last year, I'm out of British cars now, but can always find room for a Riley Imp. grin.gif

I think I tend to agree with Bob's (1937hd45) point regarding a proliferation of narrowly-defined forums. I am primarily an antique Volkswagen enthusiast, but I have a feeling if an antique Volkswagen forum were to be introduced here, there would be little interest/participation. Speaking for myself, I already enjoy participating in a few other established antique VW forums, but enjoy visiting the AACA General Forum here every so often for general discussion about antique automobiles, since I'm not *just* an antique VW enthusiast. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Don't forget to add a Japanese car forum as they will soon make up the majority of autos in the US and many are reaching the 25 year old mark.

Thanks for the responses to my suggestion about the British forum idea. Some interesting observations have been shared for sure. It has always been my idea that the AACA has been and is the leading factor in providing guidence to the Antique Auto movement in the US, and probably has a very large impression on the world wide aspect of the antique automobile. My point of view is this, I think basically, Antique Automobile Club Of American, (not American Antique Automobile Club of America) says it all. Some groups of us just don't run in the same circles. I support the AACA forums by particpating at many of the forum sites, the AACA first, then maybe the more specific forums for my specific areas of interest, such as Dodge Bros., Pierce-Arrow, CCCA, to help me find fellows with more similar intersets to myself while yet being under the umbrella of the AACA. I know a lot of us may have a broad knowledge in many makes, many of us do not. I am a new Alvis TA 14 owner, I find that very few people in my general area have even heard of it let alone offer any information or assistance. The addition of the British forum may intice some of the hobbiests from any where, overseas to participate with us and move the hobby along. Finally and thankfully, its nice to have an area that supports all the diversity that we have in the AACA.

Regards from the West,

Alan
