TAKerry Posted January 5 Share Posted January 5 I dont mind the body style, but this is a plain jane lemans. I would have to wonder if the paint is original, almost looks too nice for a 50 yr old gm. Interior looks nice but not perfect. Looks like they pulled the motor out for whatever reason (rebuild-not that bad of a thing if it had 70k miles) and painted everything in place gloss black. Motor looks like the wrong colour, rocker covers, air cleaner, what else? 9k doesnt get much in a decent running car now, so it may not be priced too far out of line. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I like it. If lucky the owner saved the original aircleaner housing and valve covers; if not they're not heinously difficult to find. One thing I do find odd is a Luxury LeMans with plain bumpers. rocketraider Posted January 5 Share Posted January 5 These are 1st generation impact bumpers. They have the chrome face bars, a heavy reinforcement bar behind that, and hydraulic rams between the re-bar and the frame horns. Cars with bumper rub strips attach the strips to the face bars via bolts vulcanized into the strip and nuts on the back side of the face bars. Other of those bolts attach the face bars to the re-bar. The face bars are the same for with rub strips and without, so they filled the rub strip bolt holes with carriage bolts. The things are a pure PITA to remove for the bumper to be replated too. Best thing is to remove the whole heavy-ass bumper assembly from the shocks, and then soak ALL of the bolts with penetrating oil for a few days (they're accessible from the back side). When ready to attempt removal and disassembly, juice 'em up again and use an impact wrench set on low to break them loose. Even then at least one of the rub strip bolts is guaranteed to strip out of the metal backing strip on back side of the rub strip. I bought a 1973 Chevelle SS new in 1973 and remember thinking the front bumper didn’t look that bad to me. The 1973 models were a departure from the 1972 design and had swivel bucket seats in my SS and non opening rear windows. Overall I thought the new body design was impressive looking, obviously enough to plunk down enough money to buy new. Below is an internet picture I found of the color I had.
