studio3dcraft
Dear all, We have acquired a early Buick model car, or at least most of it. Problem is that car is complelty dissambled, with no papers attached. We belive it is a model from around 1925-30s. Only thing to start with are matching numbers on chassis and motor, both stamped into the top surface. We are asking for your help, if you can identify model, and production year by number - B10977 Thank you! Ivana
Leif Holmberg
Picture of the disambled car needs for identifying.Your B10977 number dosn`t fit any Buick chassies or engine numbers.
studio3dcraft
That is the comfusing part. Here are stamped number on chassis and engine.
Leif Holmberg
The stamped number has been made after painting the frame? Can`t find that number in my list. The engine looks to be from 1910s earlier or later.
Leif Holmberg
Looks to be close to this 1912 Buick frame.

Both my 1912 (long since restored and sold) & my 1915 Buick speedster have 3/4 elliptical rear springs.
studio3dcraft
How can we solve this mistery?! According to the first list number 10977 do not exist, but from another, it was made up to 1914. Chassis number is stamped after, but question is if motor number is originaly stamped.. Leif Holmberg
Just wonder if the prewise owner wanted it to be "matching numbers"?
Layden B
Maybe it is not a Buick at all but an Oldsmobile Series 20?
Leif Holmberg
Layden B you are right, this 1908 Oldsmobile are close but not the very right ones. https://www.allcollectorcars.com/for-sale/1908-Oldsmobile-Series-20-4-Passenger-Touring-Sedan/2626039/?cn-reloaded=

Terry Wiegand
I am going to have to disagree with Layden Butler's thinking that this could be an Oldsmobile engine. To the best of my knowledge Oldsmobile never built a caged valve engine like what is shown in the photograph. Also, I have never seen an early Buick that had the frame number stamped directly into the frame. The frame number was stamped into a small aluminum oval that was drive riveted directly to the frame. And lastly, the frame and engine numbers did not match until sometime into the middle to latter part of the 1930's. Buick exported engines for marine use as well as supplying replacement engines to authorized dealers. The one glaring detail in this posting is the number stamped directly onto the frame rail and supposedly posing as a frame number. This simply did not happen that way. Oldtech
My perhaps uneducated guess is that this may be a Reo. They used that parallel subframe to mount the engine, and at least some had the 3/4 rear springs.
studio3dcraft
It is Buick, we just do not know production year and model. We pulled out few more parts, maybe it will help with identification.
Daves1940Buick56S
Can you measure/estimate the wheelbase? That might narrow it down.
Larry Schramm
I am going to say that it is a 1909 Model 10 based on the engine number. Edited October 9, 2023 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)

studio3dcraft
I guess assembling is a next step.. but before that, I need to find any documentation relating to 1909, model 10, assuming that is correct. Does anybody have any service or user manual, part list.. I have some 1915 Ford T PDF documentation to share.
