1948 Desoto Custom - $17,995

I guess the custom part is the interior...can't be right can it?

1. Beautifully restored at some point in its life and has had little use since.
2. The flathead 6 cylinder purrs like a kitten with an intact appropriately quiet exhaust system. The carburetor was just rebuilt and a new fuel pump installed.
3. The interior was exquisitely done very clearly from a high quality custom car experienced upholstery genius.
The headliner is quite notable and done very nicely with a very distinct attention to detail and quality.
All the doors and door handles work as they should and all the windows work as they should however the rear driver's passenger window feels like it needs to be lubricated I did not force it but it is connected and does move a little bit up and down but rather than force it somebody needs to take the door panel off and lubricate the mechanism.
4. The suicide doors are cool cool cool and it has all new door seals etc.
5. There is some rust on the front bumper pads and also the rear. Some re-chroming recommended on a few pieces where the chrome has started to rust all in all it is in excellent condition. Please take note of all the pictures.
6. It needs a glove box door. Two pieces of chrome trim on the rear fenders seem to be missing. Also it looks like on the trunk there might be some sort of a logo or something that might be missing there.
7. We are working on the brake system and are replacing parts as necessary.
8. This is an incredible barn find that is 95% complete and certainly a perfect mini project for a connoisseur who understands and appreciates the quality and value of this vintage machine.  (360) 836-0785

Oh dear, where do I start?  The upholstery genius has pretty much ruined this car, I'm afraid.  But the suicide doors are "cool, cool, cool!"  Price is idiotic, but that's probably what you have to pay to have your interior ruined by a genius!

The description of the car is “somewhat” embellished with lots of hype.  As Joe Friday on Dragnet would say “just the facts, ma’m”.  The interior is certainly attention getting and not in a good way.

If an owner wants to 'upgrade' a 1946-First Series 1949 Dodge or DeSoto sedan, he could do a lot better with the original pattern done as a Highlander plaid with broadcloth bolsters.  Although those makes didn't offer the Highlander interiors, they look so good and invitingly comfortable, who could object?

The interior makes me think of my youth when friends would take their cars to Tijuana Mexico for a cheap "tuck and roll job".

I think this Desoto was more of an "damp outside storage under the tarp find" than the traditional barn find. This car didn't sell after four go-rounds on Ebay and the pics on the Ebay listing show a lot of exterior flaws in the paint as well as a rusty rear bumper with peeling chrome. It's waaaaay overpriced by a clueless seller IMO and that interior just kills it.
