Larry Schramm
It looks like about a '38-39 GMC COE school bus. Edited December 20, 2022 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)
Peter Gariepy
Just now, Larry Schramm said: It looks like about a '38-39 GMC COE school bus. How do I verify that? Any guess?
Larry Schramm
There should be somewhere a tag that would identify the builder of the bus body. It could be anywhere including the firewall, any of the doors, the ceiling in the front of the passenger compartment, rear doors, etc.. It looks like a cab & chassis sent to a body builder. Could be a company like Blue Bird, etc... Edited December 20, 2022 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)

f.f.jones
This truck/bus is a good candidate for a resto-mod camper placed on a late model frame and running gear, retaining whichever original finish you prefer - military or civilian. That would make it safe, comfortable, more easily maintained, and a practical highway driver.
Larry Schramm
Everything from the the firewall and back of fenders including the windshield would be the body manufacturers add.

rocketraider
I'm gonna guess it's ex-military, because the pre-50s school buses from around here I've seen weren't that well-crafted. Weren't there a few military bases in AZ back then? Would certainly be a neat vehicle to restore. Aren't there clubs specializing in military vehicles? Also check with these folks: www.aaftankmuseum.com Their focus is tanks and armament, but they might know something about a base vehicle like this.
