John_S_in_Penna
There is a lot of knowledge in the AACA and its forum. The car is a 1938 Chrysler. Chrysler at that time was a medium- to higher-priced car, in the price range of Buick. Here is a link that has many pictures of a 1938 Chrysler. The car on the link is a Chrysler Imperial, which was a bit larger and more expensive than the typical Chrysler; but it looked virtually the same: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1938-chrysler-imperial/ Your father and your family, like many car owners, must have been proud of the new car: They purposefully got out the camera and arranged a pose. Maybe you heard some family stories about the car--buying it, what they traded in, maybe going on some adventure, etc. If so, please share any!
John_S_in_Penna
By the way, please check back every day and participate in this discussion, answering any questions people may have. It's a friendly DISCUSSION forum! Many newcomers post a query, then wait a week-- or never come back--losing much of the good that they would derive. If you want more answers, feel free to ask questions. People can tell you horsepower, typical speeds, how many were made, and so on.
rocketraider
And possibly inspire you to search out your own 1938 Chrysler or other old car to love and enjoy! Interesting old vehicles are often not as cost-prohibitive as the big TV auctions lead you to believe. The auctions ain't necessarily real world. Old car folks and AACA folks in particular are good people to hang out with.
Bwinterstine
Thanks for the quick responses. I had tried looking a Buicks, Dodge, Plymouth, Chevy, Ford but I never thought to try Chrysler. Bingo. I believe it was a 1938 C18 Royal Sedan from examing the pics. THANKS!

The auctions ain't necessarily real world. And old-car dealers' asking prices are often totally outside of reality--50% to 100% above true value, and above what they just paid. Plenty of antique cars, even 1938 Chryslers, are available (mostly from private parties, long-term owners who loved their cars) for realistic prices. Gunsmoke
Car does not appear to be new at the time, appears one bumper guard is missing. Do you know when picture was taken? perhaps post WWII? Your Dad looks very happy.
