1951 Riley RMB Saloon

Recommended Posts

You guys remember that thread on why we like certain cars?    This one is like admitting to some guilty pleasure.  Sort of like a Saab Sonnet.  I've always liked the styling and I casually pay attention when they are up for sale.  I think the number one Riley guy in the US lives 30 miles from me and I met him at a show once 20 years ago.  Had no idea what he was talking about.

Wondering about the ash framing and the passenger door.  A lot of pictures show it open.

This 1951 Riley RMB Saloon is finished in yellow and brown over a brown interior and powered by a 2,443cc  twin-cam OHV inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a steel and wood chassis, independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering, wood interior trim, a banjo-style steering wheel, trafficators, and 16″ steel wheels. The car was acquired by the seller’s wife in 2019, reportedly from the estate of its third owner. This Riley RMB is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of its current owner with prior registration cards and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

I like the look and lines......  I'm not interested in being a buyer, but is has a lot of charm for the price.  I like these and the Y series MG saloon platform.  I think the Riley has a sleeker lower cabin profile (Than the MG Y) that is in keeping with some high end classic cars from 15 years earlier with custom coach applications.   The RR and Bentley crowd can throw rocks at me (I am ducking now), but there are a lot of similarities to the lines of the Riley when looking back at some RR and Bentley Saloons and coupes from the mid thirties.
