What happened to the "Edit" feature on the forum?

Am I going crazy or did they do away with the ability to edit your post? I don't see the word

"Edit" below the posts anymore that I used to click on to edit a post.

My question is "Why does the post have to say it was edited?"  No need for anyone to see a stupid spelling error I made.

I doubt explanation is mandated. Or make up something interesting.

I leave it blank. But if/when I to edit something why can anyone who wants to look at my post before I edited it. Kind of like an online newspaper letting you read copy before the editor edits it. DUH.

This has been discussed before

A travel forum I post on gives you 2 minutes to correct typos, etc. After that a footnote saying the post has been edited, but no visible record of the prior post. Moderators can probably see previous text before the edit.

I moved this thread here so maybe @Peter Gariepy can address your questions. I'm not sure members should be seeing edit history. I thought that was something only moderators and administrators could see.

No, Everybody can see edit history. It has been that way since at least the previous forum software revision. It is not anything new with the latest revision.
