J. Michael
I'm Mike Hemsley, and I write and photograph for Vintage Road & Racecar magazine. I recently read a book about Eddie Rickenbacker, and I believe an article on one of the cars that bear his name would make a great article. I would like to do a profile for the magazine. A profile consists of: History of the marque ( and in this case Eddie Rickenbacker) History of the specific model Story of how the car came to be in the collection and any interesting information about the particular car. Still photography Car-to-car photography - of the car while moving Driving impressions - I will need to drive the car. I have been writing about automobiles since 1980. Until 2008, when I retired from the real world for the third time, it was a sideline. Now it's my job - a job that I love. I have driven cars as old as a 1919 Layat Helico propeller car and as new as a Ferrari 512 bbi. Cars of the '20s I have driven include a Voison and a Tracta E. I live in Chattanooga, TN, so a car in the eastern half of the US is preferable, but I'll consider any. You can reach me at jmichaelhemsley@gmail.com or 571-239-7288 Thanks you! John_S_in_Penna
Mike, I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding a Rickenbacker in the Northeast somewhere. Personally, I don't know any Rickenbacker owners, but there is a nice 1924 Rickenbacker Model C coupe in the LeMay Museum in Tacoma, Washington. It was shown at the Swigart Museum meet in Pennsylvania in 1978. I mention it just for your interest: Edited September 21, 2018 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history)
J. Michael
Thank you, John. I was at the Lamay in July and saw the car. It was a little before I read the book and got the idea to do an article on his cars. Mike

J. Michael
Frank: Thank you so much for the contact information. I also got your voice mail, and I'll contact those you recommended. I'm getting a great response, and I'm looking forward to photographing some of the cars. I'll be in Pennsylvania in a couple weeks - the same area code as for Kyle Eaton - so I'm going to try to see him. Again, thank you for the information. Wish I could visit with you and see your car, but you're a bit far. Sincerely, Mike
James-Wahl Motors
Klaimont Kollections in Chicago has two Rickenbackers. I don't know how agreeable they are about taking cars out but they have ramped up their PR as of late. Good luck with the search.

dibarlaw
This one was at the Pioneer Automobile Show Museum in South Dakota. Most cars on display were a bit rough.
J. Michael
Thanks for the pic and note - this one probably is a bit too rough for a profile. Good to know where it is, though. Mike
