Need help with fender ID ...

Grey Ford

Recommended Posts

Hi all ... I ran a search with no positive results ....
Short story is ..I purchased these fenders unseen as '31 Model A ...As soon as they were unwrapped, I knew they were not Model A ..Many people have told me that they are '32 Ford Fronts ...

I had some respected '32 owners inspect them & they verified they are NOT '32 Ford
They also are sure that they are not 33-34 Ford commercial .........
The bead is approx 3/4" but the contour & overall size & shape are VERY close to '32 passenger car ....
I have also posted on various other sites such as : The Ford barn ,etc ...No one has any idea & suggested that I try here .....
Anybody have any ideas???

Thank You in advance ....

Bob...

They appear to be the rare early '30 Model A "eyebrow" fenders, having the bead going around the front.

x2.  Discontinued by February, 1930.  Rare but that doesn't make them more valuable - the cars for which they're correct also are rare.  Ford blueprints specified them for use only on Fordors (which doesn't necessarily mean they weren't installed on other body styles in production).  For more info, search for "eyebrow" in the Model A forum on Fordbarn.com.

Unless they have been cobbled on extensively, there are a number of things that point to these not being early '30 Model A fenders.  Most notably, the hood shelf / radiator splash apron area contours and hole placement.

On second look, I think you're right.  The top portion of Model A fender projects beyond the side and curves back to meet the side - the OP fenders appear to be pretty much straight across in that area.

Gentleman ....Thank You for your ideas, suggestions & expertise....I agree with the suggestions that these are not Model A due to the width of almost 15" at the running board flange ,( ALL Model A's are approx 11" at that point ),  also, all 30-31 Model A fenders have a   " ridge" or "detail" line close to the inner side of the top , right where the fender starts to drop to the frame ...The truck suggestion may be correct as these fenders seem to be very "wide & flatter"  at the top of the wheel opening than most  car fenders .....

All we can do is keep searching ......

 Thank You .....
