Amy Bentley Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Hello. I am a trustee at a Long Island historical society. We have an interesting photo that we cannot date. There are 2 vehicles in the photo. We are hoping that by dating the cars, we can date the photo. Many thanks.
J.H.Boland Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 The first is about a 1940 or '41 Ford.The second is a 1941 to 1946 Chevrolet. Jim
keiser31 Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) I think the first two are 1939 or 1940 Ford. I get those two years mixed up. I don't think they are '41, though. Edited January 28, 2018 by keiser31 (see edit history)
CarlLaFong Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) 40 and 41s had the same basic grille. 39s had the oval grille. Edited January 28, 2018 by CarlLaFong (see edit history)
Spinneyhill Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Each pair of vehicles are the same. In PhotoOne you can see the very front of the back vehicle on the LH edge of the photo and it appears to be the same as the near vehicle. On PhotoTwo, you can see three chrome strips beside the elbow of the boy with the apron, the same strips we see on the near vehicle.
Dave Mellor NJ Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 I think the Fords are probably 41s. They have the bigger hood center strip I couldn't find a 40 panel picture. Here's a pickup
Dave Mellor NJ Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 The trick to differentiating the 41-46 Chevy trucks is in the parking lights. The 41 is slightly longer, which I would label those above this is a 46 I don't know which the 42 has.
