TheMoneyPit
Drivetrain and front axle are Model T Ford, but the rest looks like an engineering experiment gone bad...

viv w
Oscar Pistorius trying out new legs. No, its a Ford T, frame, engine, front axle and even exhaust. A very interesting picture, anyone know anything about this contraption and whether it survived? Viv.
Gunsmoke
Amazing how many people post a topic in the "What is it" forum and title their post "What is it". Please people, be more descriptive!!! "Walking Car?" would have gotten everyone's attention. Nick8086, perhaps you can edit title.
emjay
Can you tell if the front spring is replaced with something more solid. Otherwise it would have been an interesting ride as the rear support swaps sides on each stroke. Likely in a RHD country.

TheMoneyPit
Emjay, if you look between the spokes it looks like the front axle is made solid to the chassis with a large riveted plate. Still think it would make for an interesting ride!
Gunsmoke
I'm guessing about 1/2 horse power! While we snicker at what some early constructors may have had for ideas, we need to reflect on the challenges and uncertainty of how to move out of the buggy era. This guy appears to have had a leg up on everyone else.
emjay
That's why I asked, it looks rather solid. With the torque available from the T and the required gearing to convert to a walking motion, it was on its way to be able to have tremendous pulling power as opposed to speed which would be hard to imagine with that style of propulsion. The limitation to pull ing power most likely would be the minimal weight pushing the feet into the ground for traction.
Spinneyhill
I think it is the result of a bush mechanic tinkering in "the shed". He has had some fun inventing a walking machine. He would need to stiffen the front end coz it would rock with the walking motion. Not sure if that is a wry smile on his dial before bursting into laughter with the onlookers. What a hoot!
