60FlatTop Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I was going through the 8TB of NAS servers on my desk and wondering when I turned into such a geek, when I came across these pictures from a stack in the garage. The whole subscription is still there. In 1961 I entered the 9th grade and High School. So this is reading material and a magazine subscription from my Sophomore year. Right down to the address label. I guess that dates the time I started wanting a Riviera. And another uncommon item I picked up in my Riviera years is this NOS package: Neat stuff, Bernie 3 2
rocky5517 Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Very cool Bernie. That's one of the reasons I never throw things out/ and when I do I usually regret it
jsgun Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I first got into Riviera's in my early 20's. My attention matured from only Chevelles to full radical customs. That's when I first started noticing the Riviera, and it really grew on me. It had the sharp, crisp lines of the 60's Chevelle's but much more sophisticated and with "jet age" touches. 1

Yes, exactly, a radial custom direct from the factory. I bought my first Riviera when I was 21 and it was a big step up from my Chevy. In the 1970s they were just used cars, so prices were very affordable. Here I am with my first speeding ticket in hand. "The car just got away from me; I swear, it has a mind of its own! The judge was not impressed.

RivNut Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Since I got a new computer, my scanner is no longer compatible. If it were, I'd scan a copy of a Motor Trend that I have from 1963. In it is a full article on the 1963 Riviera. On the cover is a picture of "Motor Trends Car of the Year" - the 1963 Rambler. ?
39BuickEight Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I never use my scanner any more. I just take photos of things I would have normally scanned.

It's actually ironic that it was a Riviera. Back then it was an affordable used car for which I knew the history. I figured out how much power it had when I did a 180 on a wet street one night. Luckily I was on my way home and not on the highway. No pictures because it was just another car. Drove it to Summer Camp at Fort Riley one summer where it sat in the motor pool for two weeks of sun, wind, rain, dust, and just barely missed by a tornado. Had I of only known then what the future were to hold in store.
