old-tank
Group No. Part NO. 3.772 981443 Trim-Exhaust Pipe-All Models (Fan Type)3.772 981653 Trim-Exhaust Pipe-1955 (Tubular Type) That's what the accessories listing shows for 55 Buick. The fan type is being reproduced (I have one), but it backwards dates the car. I saw some of the tubular type back when the cars were new and then saw what looked like the same thing incorporated into the bumper of the 56's.Once there was one on ebay, but was snatched by a notorious parts collector/hoarder (I bid it to $200 and still did not get it --- I justified the ridiculous price thinking of reproducing).Do anyone here have any leads on one? (no, I will not pay $200 )Willie
Paul Falabella
file:///Users/imac/Desktop/55%20Roadmaster/103_0012a%20copy%202.jpg I got that tip or one very close, pretty sure from Kanter, for about 50 I think.
old-tank
Thanks, Paul. That is apparently the deflector that was used on the 55-56 chevy with 'power pack'. I wondered if they were the same and will probably buy to see what they look like. Does someone here have an interchange or chevy parts book: group 3.772 part no. 981653 (nothing on the web).Willie

Paul Falabella
I think it looks pretty good. A change from the clamshell tip that everybody has.It is conceivable that they were used on Buicks in the 50's. Unless you can find an NOS with the jewel and the Buick script. Only seen them for big bucks. Edited August 21, 2015 by Paul Falabella (see edit history)
old-tank
Thanks for looking Leif. It may still be the same as the chevy since those were sold in pairs and may have a different part number.

NTX5467
What are the basic dimensions of the "flattened oval" item with what pipe diameter? Just curious in case I see something somewhere. NTX5467

Paul Falabella
The tip is Approx. 7"x4"x3". It attaches to the pipe from below but sits on top the pipe. The exhaust does not pass through the tip. Edited August 22, 2015 by Paul Falabella (see edit history)
old-tank
Thanks again Paul. It serves as an exhaust deflector like the fan type, but it looks like it fits the theme of the a 55 better than the fan type.Willie
old-tank
Installed, and I think it looks better. Fan type with the logo (circa 1913) make it look prewar...can't have that can we?
JamesBulldogMiller55Buick
It looks great !!I'm getting one for mine
JohnD1956
It does look good, and without exhaust passing through it, it should outlast the car.
Paul Falabella
I happen to like this type also. Whatever type you like, there should be one on every exhaust pipe. Can't tell you how many pretty cars get that semicircular discoloration on the bumper above the tailpipe. I like the through the bumper exhaust setup, but you need to stay on top of that.
