hidden_hunter
Hi guys, Our rear cover cracked in half on our water pump (screwing it up after rebuilding all the other bits with bobs kit!) - has anybody had one made or got a spare one that they're willing to part with? Willing to pay a fair price and cover the shipping here to Melbourne Only need the rear cover part, the rest of the pump is fine. Larry Schramm
Have you thought about trying to weld/ braze it? The one cover on my truck decades ago was left with water and it froze and broke. Had it welded up and it works fine.
Glenn Manes
I broke the cover on my 1918. I was successful in brazing it back together.Glenn ManesWheat Ridge Colorado, USA

hidden_hunter
Welding it back is plan B, probably a bit beyond my skill set so will need to send it away to get it done.
Larry Schramm
It is a long ship, but my machinist here can make it like new. He even made a new stainless steel water pump shaft. Mark Shaw
Sorry, I don't have one that matches yours. Edited August 18, 2015 by Mark Shaw (see edit history)
hidden_hunter
Some photos of the offending piece, can get measurements if that helps clarify?
Leif Holmberg
This cover only fit from 1926 Std.But if you will find a comlete pump perhaps it will fit from a newer 1920s Std.Leif in Sweden.
Terry Wiegand
A good machinist could make a new piece probably a whole lot easier than trying to mess with the two old pieces you have. Just my thoughts here. Terry WiegandSouth Hutchinson, Kansas
Larry Schramm
Some photos of the offending piece. Looks like an easy fix. I would take it to a good welder and he should be able to have it brazed up in a few minutes. Just make sure the parts are flat and properly together when he is brazing it up. Just IMO
Bob Engle
This would be an easy part to reproduce. It looks like about an hour lathe time and then drill press time for the holes, fit the bushing and it's better than new. No critical dimensions or tolerances to worry with. Roger Barrett
Do you still need a water pump end cover? I have a bunch of these pumps from 1926-28. I believe the Standard and Master pumps are the same but let me know what you have, most of my stuff is Standard 6. I will send you a cover for nothing but shipping costs. Always happy to help Buick guys with parts that are overloading the shelves in my storage rooms. Regards, Roger BCA #

hidden_hunter
I've got some spare time, so I thought I'd post the findings of our research for the next poor sap that has this problem and comes across this topic (credit to Roger and Erik!) Basically from what we have find is (some of this is repeated from above):1926 has a different pump from earlier years (27 appears to potentially be different again)1926 has at least two different pump designs (mine with a round back and like the one above with a tear drop shape)1926 early pumps don't have a grease point on itMaster and Standard pumps are different
hidden_hunter
Alright, we're back in business! Turns out the impeller from bob's was too tall from the pump housing (probably owing to all the different designs). I ground it down and it fits and is working perfectly in the car
Dandy Dave
Ouch. Always have to check for clearance. If you were here, I would have had it back together in no time. Sorry that the swim acoss the pond is so long. Dandy Dave!
Roger Barrett
H.H., glad it all worked out for you and you could use the cover. We all got an education. I should have researched this a little more beforehand. Now I'll know more next time. It's cooling off up here and raining. California is on fire and we need it. Is it warming up down there? Bet you are looking forward to touring season.Roger BCA #99 and Erik

Planning on going on a 50 mile run tomorrow now that we're back in business in preparation for 125 mile run the following weekend
