I see a few cars/parts that I would have separated from the pile (especially that Chrysler coupe on the left), but in those days....just old, used up junk to them.

It looks like one of those scare tactic drives that the new car manufacturers used to have. "This old jalopy killed a child. It must die!!!!"

Sounds a bit like today's, "These guns run around at night, shooting people. We must eliminate them."

This is from the time when to get the best scrap price, the cars were burned to get the wood and fabric out.

Who would think those old wood slat and fabric roofs were that strong. I don't see any of those gems on the bottom caving in.

I had a customer whose Dad had a foundry where he melted scrap. In 1937 he bought 1000 cars for $1.75 each, torched then melted them all down.
