  2. Replace the HB and the CPS at the same time. The HB's go bad based on time and not mileage, so they don't necessarily have to look worn. Listen to all the videos on youtube from other 3800 users and you will see how common the problem is.
  3. I have some cross forum experience in Autogeek Online (AGO) since I also take interest in paint correction and detailing. I also buy some of their correction products like Pinnacle and Sovereign products. I also have a Porter Cable DA polisher and Lake Country polishing pads. By the way, an average sale for them is coming up for Veterans day. AG Newsletter Autogeeks CEO Mike is always giving youtube videos on how to best perform paint correction to get rid of swirl marks, ghosting, and other imperfections. With that said, to me there is no way a product can offer seven years of maintenance finish and shine without needing some sort of clearcoat correction to remove blemishes. There's over 6 steps that need to be done before one can just "polish" a turd to a shine. The paint surface needs to be free of micro contaminants. How are you going to clean up this glasscoat product if it also becomes etched/contaminated? Sounds like its just another clearcoat on top of clearcoat. At minimum, the most outward facing clearcoat surface is still going to need clay bar treatment, moisturizing of the various layers of clear coat, and swirl removal. Paint needs moisturizing and rubbing compounds if swirl marks and chemical etching is present. The warranty is guaranteeing **original** clearcoat to be intact only, doesnt necessarily imply it will be scratch and etch free. See where Im going with this? A car can be shiny but have so many swirl marks it looks like crap up close. Here's a posting to the forum where someone asked a similar question about glass coat. Reatta pens

Did the 88-89's include pens? The owners manual has a loop in it, so was curious if they were part of the manual - the logbook as in later years.
  5. After the GM bankruptcy things have apparently changed so YMMV. I went to several Buick dealers in Seattle area who struggled to even find me a key blank for what they considered antique style without passkey. They told me to go to Walmart! I had asked about getting it from VIN and they looked at me like I was from Mars.
  6. What exactly is done with the refurbish process since it might be different between vendors? For example, mine works but it has slight burn-in on the screen. Is that correctable? Do they add phosphor or something? (sorry, not a TV expert). Resoldering connections? Can they repair the overlay film?
  7. Because DVD went the way of the dinosaur just like Beta/VHS. HDD or youtube ftw. Must be a generational thing.
  8. It's questionable to be paying royalties to a 3rd party who doesn't actually have rights to a 23 year old automotive video that has lost its mainstream value. I frown on man in the middle profiting from a special interest educational video that only our community would appreciate.
  9. I specifically searched and revived a January thread at 2am. That's impossible. Look at the timestamps after it was revived...over a day apart.:confused: Anyway, does anyone have the Reatta Craft Centre video to repost?

    My new Reatta

Excellent. I should take mine to Chuckanut drive sometime. What was the border experience taking this car back into the U.S.? Did they physically inspect your car? Any taxes, forms, hassle, etc?

    My new Reatta

Nice. What park did you take that in?
  12. Yes, I know. You may not have seen my post above asking about it.
  13. Ronnie thank you for pointing out the ICM testing tutorial. However, what helps me best is to first understand the "why" behind why my engine was running and then just suddenly quit. This video and the narrators text helped me to understand why the 18 and 3x rings exist on that balancer and what exactly I'm looking for on the ICM socket. If you could please add the 18x and 13x starting requirements in order to start and maintain engine run condition, would be beneficial to owners who arrive to the forum with the common stalled engine questions. We need to throw out that misconception that the cam magnet could also be interfering with no-start scenarios.
  14. 18X interrupter rings on Harmonic Balancer detected by crank position sensor: indicates engine speed. Required for engine to start. Signal sent to ignition module terminal G. If 18X signal is lost, engine will immediately die and cannot be restarted. Spaced at 10 degree intervals. 3x interrupter rings on Harmonic Balancer detected by crankshaft position sensor: Used to sense position of #1 and #4 piston. Required for engine to start. Signal sent to ignition module terminal H. Voltage at terminal H should be 9.5 volts while cranking. If 3X signal is lost while running, engine will continue to run but cannot be restarted. If signal is lost, no trouble code is set. 18X and 3X interrupter rings **Both** signals required to start engine to trigger Ignition Module to send spark to fire plugs. ECM also separately monitors both 3X and 18X signals to fire in "simultaneous fuel injection mode" aka (fast start ignition) until engine reaches 600 RPM. Then switches to Sequential Fuel Injection Mode. Cam Position Sensor Not needed to start engine cam magnet sensor signal senses when#1 cylinder at 25* after TDC. Only responsible for triggering to SFI injection mode once 18X and 3X signals are present past 600 rpm. If signal is lost, Code 41 is set but will still run and can be restarted. Reduced engine performance due to ECM trying to run injectors on default injection mode. I wanted to write this out to show that when the engine wont start. We should troubleshoot here instead of to the cam sensor which is not required to get the engine to start and for high level explanation, is only used to trigger sequential fuel injection delivery mode.
  15. So anyone have this video they can re-upload? Its missing.
  16. This youtube video was found by accident due to different search intentions but it would be useful for playback to Reatta owners who need a tutorial to understand the significance of why they might experience intermittent ignition start or ECM code 41. It also helps to understand why certain signals are expected or ignored depending upon where the engine is in the starting process (600 RPM). http://youtu.be/ktpDMhTX5Ak This video provides an excellent tutorial on the harmonic balancer, troubleshooting 3800 crank position sensor, cam sensor, MAF, digital EGR, transmission, and the three ECM throttle operating modes. The only thing I disagreed with was the MAF cannot be replaced separately from the throttle body. Ronnie, I would recommend downloading the video and also putting a link to this on your website.
  17. This topic came up earlier this year and someone mentioned a running change with the driver side mirror electrical plug. If you search for that thread, there's other items mentioned.
  18. Unlocking manually with the key should always disarm it. Does the disarm with key work only on driver or passenger side? It could be a worn out lock switch in comparison to the other door. This should always work regardless of the status of your keyless module, and even if the battery died in the remote or in the car, the keyless module wont stop recognizing specific remotes. When you press the remote to unlock and disarm, is it at least pushing the door to unlock?
  19. The 88's dont have this shock mount correct? At least on mine I didnt have it when looking at other years at a car show.
  20. IF it does this on the same spot on the accelerator, you might have a dead spot developing on the TPS.
  21. Have you tried contacting the youtube user account through Youtubes messaging feature?
  22. Does anyone know this person? 1987 Buick Riviera - YouTube Most fun I ever had developing code. I wrote the editing program in 1984 and I'm told it allowed the users to create/update the screens from months down to weeks of effort. Funny thing, IBM came in like 1985 and convinced Delco that they wanted to put 8088 processors in the cars instead of the existing procs.. IBM never did deliver the editing software to replace my stuff, but mine was mothballed. That was the end of the displays in the cars. It was ahead of it's time!!! lzgmyn 9 months ago 4 <button type="button" class="start comment-action-vote-up comment-action yt-uix-button yt-uix-button-default yt-uix-tooltip yt-uix-button-empty" title="Vote Up" data-action="vote-up" data-tooltip-show-delay="300" role="button" style="margin: 0px -2px 0px 0px; padding: 0px 4px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(170, 170, 170); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(250, 250, 250) 0px, rgb(220, 220, 220) 100%); background-color: rgb(224, 224, 224); font-weight: bold; height: 21px; outline: 0px; word-wrap: normal; vertical-align: middle; cursor: pointer; border-top-left-radius: 3px; border-top-right-radius: 0px; border-bottom-right-radius: 0px; border-bottom-left-radius: 3px; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px 0px; -webkit-box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); "></button><button type="button" class="end comment-action-vote-down comment-action yt-uix-button yt-uix-button-default yt-uix-tooltip yt-uix-button-empty" title="Vote Down" data-action="vote-down" data-tooltip-show-delay="300" role="button" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 4px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(170, 170, 170); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(250, 250, 250) 0px, rgb(220, 220, 220) 100%); background-color: rgb(224, 224, 224); font-weight: bold; height: 21px; outline: 0px; word-wrap: normal; vertical-align: middle; cursor: pointer; border-top-left-radius: 0px; border-top-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-left-radius: 0px; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px 0px; -webkit-box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); "></button><button type="button" class="start comment-action link-gplus-lightbox yt-uix-button yt-uix-button-default" data-action="reply" data-upsell="comment" role="button" style="margin: 0px -2px 0px 0px; padding: 0px 4px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(170, 170, 170); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(250, 250, 250) 0px, rgb(220, 220, 220) 100%); background-color: rgb(224, 224, 224); font-weight: bold; height: 21px; outline: 0px; word-wrap: normal; vertical-align: middle; cursor: pointer; border-top-left-radius: 3px; border-top-right-radius: 0px; border-bottom-right-radius: 0px; border-bottom-left-radius: 3px; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px 0px; -webkit-box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); ">Reply</button><button type="button" class="end flip yt-uix-button yt-uix-button-default yt-uix-button-empty" data-button-has-sibling-menu="true" role="button" aria-pressed="false" aria-expanded="false" aria-haspopup="true" aria-activedescendant="" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 4px; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid; border-color: rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(204, 204, 204) rgb(170, 170, 170); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, rgb(250, 250, 250) 0px, rgb(220, 220, 220) 100%); background-color: rgb(224, 224, 224); font-weight: bold; height: 21px; outline: 0px; word-wrap: normal; vertical-align: middle; cursor: pointer; border-top-left-radius: 0px; border-top-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-right-radius: 3px; border-bottom-left-radius: 0px; text-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 1px 0px; -webkit-box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; box-shadow: rgb(255, 255, 255) 0px 0px 1px inset; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); "></button> I was the programmer at Delco Electronics (part of a group with the cool name "Computer Techniques") that created the program that did all the graphics for the touch screen. 23. Can you expand why it's different? Is it due to the width or shape of the 91 armrest slope or latch? Or is it because the attachment is different?
  24. Will the revised 90/91 slideout cupholder arm cushion install on the 88/89 console or not because it might have different widths or attachment points??
  25. While traveling through, saw a red coupe sitting at a dealership sitting outside on the outer curb. Perhaps someone local could check it out. Dont know what options or price it had. I had planned to do so but my trip didn't give me enough time.
