  1. Take the belt off and run the engine for a minute to see if the noise stops or continues. It might be the harmonic balancer rubbing metal on metal.
  2. i would still take it to AZ or Oreillys just to see if the alternator is right on the border of charging properly.
  3. B410 is "charging system problem". Take your car to Autozone or Oreillys and have them do a stress test on the alternator. Its free.
  4. Ground the plug wire while turning over and see if any sparks are jumping to ground. If not, do the electrical tests from page on that link I gave above. I took a long wire, and ran it from a plug wire up to the windshield wiper arm and didnt see any sparks while I was cranking. It was doing nothing but a dead turnover, so I knew it was electrical which ended up being the CPS.
  5. I vote for Crank Position Sensor as well. It's a delicate cheesy part that's critical to making the car fire and run. A fuel pump likely wouldnt just die like that. Plus Reattatude already ruled out it's responding to prime. I too, had a CPS go out right after replacing the Harmonic Balancer. It's a cheap $20 part, difficult to replace, but not as difficult or messy as a fuel pump. Read this and especially PAGE 3. Part 1 -GM 3.8L Ignition Module Test and Crank Sensor Test (3X, 18X) Basic step is to determine if you are getting ANY spark while turning over. If not, go for the CPS replacement.
  6. Could I send in my original? I'd prefer to keep it original plus I know it was in a dry smoke free temperate dust free climate.

  9. As a last minute catch, I read a post on here about the Portland BCA all Buick show and made a last minute decision to attend. So glad I went! Great drive at 5am from Seattle to Portland to make it for my 830am arrival! Touched up my 88 Firemist blue coupe an hour prior to the show. We were lumped into the 70+ everything but Grand National or Riviera class. Personally, I think that Reatta's either deserve their own class or be thrown into a more recent decade category such as 80's, etc. In all, six Reatta's made it into the judging. Weston Buick GMC also had their red 91 coupe on display. Some light rain didnt stop us from wiping down and touching up. It was great meeting all the other Reatta junkies and comparing technical details under the hood. It was a great success! 1st place Black/Tan Reatta convertible. I won 2nd place -- appreciated very much!! After the show ended abruptly from the 2nd rain shower, I was at a gas station when I decided I would try and locate the original owner. I was looking at the warranty booklet and remembered they were in the Portland area. I drove to the house of the original owner. This nice woman named Betty was extremely surprised and happy to see the car. Her husband had passed away almost 11 years ago and had 7 garages for all his cars. She said he was well known by every dealer and salesperson in WA and OR state because he was constantly trading them in. I offered to snap her photo standing with the car and sent her the picture to share with her family. She stated her family was going to be in disbelief at what dropped in today! After a pleasant discussion about their former Reatta, we said our goodbyes and I headed home to Seattle.
  10. As for the Reatta chrome strip, I wasn't thinking ahead about pics for whether it was going to work or not but it damn sure made me happy. After seeing a fellow Fiero owner take off the hazed clearcoat off his wheels and then repolish them with Fitz, the results are more stunning than having perfect clearcoat! I've only done one Fiero wheel so I still have time to take before and after pics for that project.
  11. I just found a flyer for it. Do I really need a fire extinguisher to enter the show? I dont have one.
  12. I will have to think about going. My Reatta came from somewhere in PDX.
  13. Rather than start a new thread I will just revive one from the dead! I just used FLITZ metal polish to remove a dime size rust stain on my rear bumper strip. Prior to today, I had tried several expensive metal polishes and cleaners and couldnt get this rusty looking blemish off! I took some FLITZ and a rag and it came off within minutes! So consider this another testimonial to try FLITZ on metal trim. I also used it on a Fiero wheel after I took the cloudy clearcoat off with paint stripper. Absolutely amazing shine and clarity.
  14. Oh really? Wonder what the mid year change is that prevents this? Any pics of two straps side by side?
  15. doubtful. the plastic threshold trim would be installed after the paint booth. Pics would help understand what was done.
  16. I can't tell from looking at various photos, but what's the different between later years and the lack of the plastic button caps? Did they just provide additional material to cover the bolt hole? Can the redesigned straps be installed on prior years without modification?
  17. When I was installing keyless entry on my 88 and testing, I didn't want my horn going off - just lights. So I disconnected my two horns by reaching up underneath the gaping hole between the bumper and lower air dam. The horns are located on the two fender corners behind the retractable lights midway up attached to the steel frame. One fat green clip wire is attached to each horn. Make sure those are plugged on securely.
  18. That's the mystery....nothing was rubbing between the CPS and rings. Might as well replace a 23+ part anyway considering the trouble it would take to do it twice.
  19. What's with the harmonic balancer failures lately? I just replaced mine last month (twice). Cosmetically, the balancer looked perfectly fine but the noisy rubbing sound was awful to the ears. I had to replace it TWICE because either the crank position sensor (CPS) was rubbed down by the ears from the old balancer, or it just simultaneously failed too! So go ahead and replace that cheap $20 sensor too!!! http://forums.aaca.org/f116/88-died-20-min-after-harmonic-330587.html#post1048453
  20. okay so why not use similar ones like SearchTempest Online Classifieds Search - All the Classifieds. One Search. ?
  21. this sounds like Lemay when you mentioned the Firebird concept. Lemay has the Banshee Firebird in a white building. How can this not be Lemay? LOL
  22. wow sounds just like Lemay. Will you consider participating in the Lemay show August 25th? Dont think Ive ever seen a Reatta there. I wanted to take both my Fiero and Reatta this time.
