  1. Derek, what banquet last year? Springfield is where now? Well, Duh!! You should have said something to jog the old memory. I had people pulling me in about 15 different directions at this show. And I have slept a couple of times since then. Yes indeed you should have said something about that Saturday. I do remember that now that you have mentioned it. Sorry about that oversight. 2. I would like to throw a few of my thoughts out here and say a few things about the meet. The meet facilities were simply great. I got to meet Mr. Bulgari personally and shake his hand. I thanked him for what he did with this meet for the club. The grounds lent themselves perfectly for a show like this. The thing for me though was the being able to meet face to face folks that I have emailed, written to, and talked on the phone with for years. The cars are great, but, the friendships that have been made over the years puts the icing on the cake for me. I got to meet my friend, Wolfgang, from Austria. Got to meet Derek Thille "Thriller" in the flesh. A whole lot of 'blokes' were there from Australia. A bunch of those guys stayed in the hotel where I was staying. I met some great new friends and life is good as they say. The rain on Saturday sure put a damper on things. I heard on the national news this morning that the Philadelphia area got a huge amount of rain over the weekend. I ran in rain all the way to the airport in Philly from Allentown. I sure wish that Lamar Brown could have been there - I would have really liked to meet him in person. All in all, it was a very good meet and I think a good time was had by all. 3. Is this the same D-55 that was on Prince Edward Island? If it is, then Gregg Lange knows about it also. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  4. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THIS MEET AND EVERY DUES-PAYING BCA MEMBER THAT ATTENDS THIS MEET SHOULD BE THERE. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  5. I'm going to have to agree with John Mahoney on this. There simply is not a good reason to make a big deal out of this. There are several on here that have really got their shorts in a wad. We are living in the digital age my friends. There is no such thing as privacy anymore. Read that again - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PRIVACY ANYMORE. Any time that any of us click on a website our email address is captured. It is as simple as that folks. We have had Nationwide automobile insurance for going on six years. They have treated us very good rate-wise. I talked with our agent the other day about this program and she told me that when it goes into effect we will get a rate adjustment at that time. We are happier than two jaybirds in a mulberry patch. Anything that anybody does that is going to save us money will be told 'Bring It On'. An email address can be found for anyone who has one in the blink of an eye. Now, Social Security numbers, credit card information, drivers license numbers, etc. is a horse of a different color. I do not believe for one second that the AACA Board of Directors did or would divulge that kind of personal information for anything. Like the one guy said, "Lighten Up", set back and enjoy the ride. I personally have bigger things to worry about than someone getting my email address and you guys out there should feel the same way - it will do marvelous things for your blood pressure. 6. I had posted an ad for my friend earlier who is looking for a Buick 6-Cylinder engine. He originally stated that he was trying to find a 1921 engine. He has contacted me and has decided to expand the search. He would really like to find a decent cylinder block and/or complete engine from 1918 through 1922. He's looking at building a speedster and has a fairly complete chassis. Please contact Jerry Toews at jtoews@mtelco.net or he can be reached at (620) 367-8257. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  7. I am posting this ad for a friend of mine. He recently acquired a 1921 Buick 6-Cylinder chassis and is thinking that he would like to make a speedster out of it since there is no body. The engine number identifies it as a 1921 model. He tells me that the top end of the block is really rough and this is the reason that he is looking for a block or a complete engine. His name is Jerry Toews and he is from Goessel, Kansas. His phone number is - (620) 367-8257. His email address is - jtoews@mtelco.net Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  8. And West, when you stick articles like Paul Rose's '23 Buick Sport Roadster in there, that gets my attention real quick. I have had the opportunity to see this car up close and personal and it is nothing short of incredible. I don't care what Pinky Randall says about Buicks being nothing but Chevrolets with lock washers, that car is absolutely stunning. Please do not stop doing articles like this - you did good, son. 9. Matt, what you related to us about the camshaft in your father's '24 Buick is interesting to say the least. This is the first time that I have ever heard about a problem with that area of the engine in relation to the fuel system operation. What I can say is that I experienced the very same symptoms with my '20 as Larry is having with his '25 and once we got the vacuum tank squared away, life with this car suddenly became great again. This is what is leading me to think that there is something going on with the vacuum tank on his engine that nobody is seeing or catching. The only other thing that has not been mentioned very much is the fact that I run 100% pure gasoline in my car. Do I think that this is the total answer to problems like he is having? - definitely not, but, I think it COULD contribute to an engine performance problem. This blasted alcohol in the fuel is horrible in any engine old or new. A perfect example of our government that has run amuck. It is good to hear others have had great experience with John Wolf over in Ohio. He is a good guy. Very knowledgeable on these old Stewart-Warner fuel systems and a former old Buick owner on top of it all. I hope that he can help Larry get to the root of the problem(s). 10. Leif, in the top photo that you posted with the Red circled ? - what exactly are you telling us here? In the photo of the vacuum tank float - again, the same question - please tell us what we are supposed to be looking at. I had the vacuum tank rebuilt on my 1920. Got it back and it seemed like it ran worse than before. I ended up sending it back to the rebuilder and we discussed the possibility of a hairline crack in the die cast cover. That was not the problem. The culprit was the two long springs that was supposed to close the needle into the seat and shut off the vacuum from the manifold. The needle was not seating and this caused the tank chamber to overfill and suck raw gas into the manifold on top of the carburetor. Remember, my car is a 1920 and does not have the heat riser tube like Larry's '25 has. The engine coughed, belched, backfired, and just generally ran like crap. I pulled the plugs and they were dripping wet with fuel. After getting the vacuum tank to operate as it should these problems went away. We have talked this thing out until those proverbial cows came home and he still cannot get the engine to run properly. I am at a total loss as to what is going on with the fuel system on his engine. I have advised him to get in touch with John Wolf out in Ohio who rebuilds the Stewart-Warner vacuum tanks and tell him what is going on. Maybe he can help him. I am at a loss here as what to tell him. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  11. Johnny, I forgot to add this in my previous reply - from your photo, you have a very late 1916 or very early 1917 D-45. This is based on the style of the rocker arm posts. The 1917 engines had oil wicks on the rocker arm pivot bushings like what is in your photo. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  12. Johnny, I have a New Old Stock pushrod. In fact, I have six of them. Send me your email address and phone number and the best time to contact you. Terry Wiegand terrywiegand@prodigy.net
  13. Well!, Dog My Cats! I sure did not expect something like this. It's a D-55 all right. Larry, didn't we have something like this show up a while back? This looks like a factory made top of some kind. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  14. It sounds like you have an enclosed body Buick and Larry is right, we LOVE photos on here. The more the better. Terry Wiegand Doo Dah America
  15. Johnny, you need to get signed up with Dean Tryon who edits the 1915 - 1918 Buick McLaughlin Newsletter. He has been putting this newsletter out for almost 20 years. We have people from all over the world who own and play with this era of Buick automobiles and trucks. His email address is - DGTryon2516@gmail.com What model of 1916 Buick do you have? What specific engine parts are you looking for? You also need to post some photos of your car on here - we LOVE photos! You have found the right place with the right folks to help you. Welcome to the forum. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  16. Can anyone tell me which issue during 1956 contained the Buick article. I am not sure if this article was authored by the late Dave Chambers or not. Thanks to anyone out there who can help with this request. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas terrywiegand@prodigy.net
  17. My '16 6-cylinder is going in later this summer for a professional rebuilding. Probably one of the most important things that will be done to this old engine will be running the block through the hot tank. The water just falls through the original radiator. We don't want to do anything that will choke up this radiator. My Dad used to always run a product called 'Rust-Master' in everything he owned and never had any cooling system problems. I have looked everywhere and cannot find this product. I think that it must not be made anymore. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  18. Received the information letters in the mail this afternoon. Sure would have been nice if a map of the grounds would have been included. Since I will not have a vehicle there it will not be of that much help for me. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  19. F&J, what are you using to apply the Bleche-White to the surface of the tire? That could be part of the problem. I use the roughest Scotch-Brite pad that one can find and give it at least two applications of the cleaner. A friend of mine uses a fine bristled brass wire brush and has excellent results. I'm not trying to be a wise guy on here, but, you gotta show the tire who's the boss. My '22 Buick has 35 X 5 BF Goodrich Silvertown Cord White Wall tires and I only have to do the cleaning thing on them about once every 2 - 3 years. They stay snow white in between for a long time. Anyway, this has been my experience. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  20. Go to the Jamestown Distributors website. They will have what you are needing. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  21. My friend, Don Micheletti, out in California has a member number of 587. I got acquainted with him through Dean Tryon's 1915/1918 Buick-McLaughlin Newsletter since he has a 1918 Buick. He frequents the forum and if he sees this I hope that he will let us know exactly when he signed up. I spoke with him about 10 days ago and they are going to be out of the country during the time of the meet. I joined in 1990 (I know I'm just a short-timer) and the club was around 24 years old then, but, I have been a member for going on 27 years and I think it would be a safe bet that right now I would be considered a long time member. What say you all about that? Terry Wiegand Out Doo Dah Way
  22. Hugh, I can definitely relate to what you went through with your vacuum tank - been there - done that. I went back in with a hex head brass pipe plug for ease of removal down the line if needed. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  23. Bernie, dang, you're an old guy! You and I are the same age, but, I'm better looking The youngest daughter tells her mother that I remember when dirt was new. Anyway, back to the show here - I run 100% pure gasoline in all of my old Buicks and they seem to like that stuff pretty well. They run great on it. Terry Wiegand Out Doo Dah Way
  24. Guys, I think you are getting the wrong impression about my interest in this old Buick. I am not the slightest interested in owning it, I simply wanted to get some good, detailed photos of the top assembly. This is a very unusual aftermarket period accessory and being that it is on a Buick makes it that much more interesting to me. I carefully explained to the guy that I wanted to get photos only - he simply wasn't going to have any of that at all. When he found out that I wasn't a buyer it all turned south. You just would have had to hear the phone conversation. To put it out there in plain, adulterated language, this guy is gonna shake down any potential buyer for every dollar that he can wring out of him and I firmly believe he will do whatever it takes to get that done. To me this is why this deal just doesn't smell too good. I would have liked to have gotten some good photos for future reference, but I think that I will pass on this one. Terry Wiegand South Hutchinson, Kansas
  25. I would really like to get some photos of the details of the top that is on this car. It obviously is not a fold back affair. Back in the day there was a company in Connersville, Indiana by the name of Rex Tops that made aftermarket 'hard top' shells for roadsters and touring cars. At first I thought that this was what this was, but, I am not so sure now. This is the reason for my interest in seeing this car in person. This car is pretty unusual from the top alone. The guy that has it now is probably in line to make a bundle on it and he doesn't want anyone upsetting his apple cart. The asking price of $2,000 is reasonable for what is seen in the photos.
