  1. Looks like a nice restoration on a good old Tudor model A. Thanks for posting dave.
  2. Hand mounted my first set of 600x16 tires at 14, by hand with some hot soapy water and a bycicle air pump. DAD was surprised as we were planning to bring them to his friends garage to mount them. Back to op search, nice restored slant in hmn, $27k, in latest issue. All the money and yellow, but another example of what's currently available.
  3. Indeed. To each their own but one of the most appealing things about the A in my mind is the great proportions for a smaller car. It's hard, I think to mess with those lines and get it right.
  4. Hi David, no not a slant, so there is the compromise. If OP drives it fast enough the posts may bend back a bit though. ;-) http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/5072258063.html
  5. "Come on son, wish it into the cornfield, please!"
  6. Well if the 31 is too nice and Mercer09's cab is too much of a project perhaps we have one here that's just right. Not sure how to attach link on mobile app but this is in the western MA cl this morning. How's about a 30 cab, black, running, unrestored, seller claims rust free, $14K. Can you put in the same shape as the 31 for the difference, unlikely but a good middle ground option with some compromise
  7. I get waiting for the right car, but not sure where this one misses the mark in terms of seeming to be in reasonable condition for the price currently advertised. I also thought the cab that Mercer 09 was selling was a square deal for a project car. Admittedly don't remember if that is a slant or not though. Sometimes it is a case of deciding if the range in mind is realistic. Curti suggested a pair of early CT license plates to me several months back, I wanted a set but was hoping to find a set for less money but in the same shape. Well 3 months later we bought the set Curti suggested (thanks for that suggestion!) when it resurfaced on ebay. Moral of the story is sometimes the right deal is there but it may take some time to realize that. Then the decision is if it is still worth it tor you. I figured I would rather have the nice set than spend three years looking to save say $100. For me it made sense but it took a while to get there. A Not a typical A search in that cabs are a little unusual. Add to that one year body and certain colors, no heavy project and no high point high dollar cars and you will be somewhat limited. I think somewhere along the lines OP notes he is ok if the right deal never materializes so he knows it's a tall order with whatever his numbers are. This from another thread on same topic from the OP.
  8. I am surprised no one else has suggested a fox chassis Mustang or Capri with the typical ford v8, seems to meet the requirements of the OP. Maybe very common in the US but could be unusual in Brazil. I wonder if AACA has any presence there.
  9. OP should be all over this. Reasonable price indeed and nice color. Ad seems legitimate to the degree the picture is clear and a phone number vs. Aonomous email address is provided. Like it but still counting my blessings to have been able to add one more already this year.
  10. Thanks for posting Bill. Search hemi Joe or hemi Joel on YouTube and you will find some cool videos of his work on this car as well. Very nice he took the time to share.
  11. I like your search criteria mirko. Not sure how critical CCCA recognition is in your corner of the world but it could make it easier down the road to sell. European hobbyists seem to value using the car so I would push for an extended road test, maybe an hour or so if seller allows to see if you like how it drives. Your description of the colors actually sounds nice for that body style. Keep us posted.
  12. I think she is just not interested...
  13. A very nice car. Colors could be better but they look period if not original. If you can live with the color I might keep it on the list. To go down from alsance's 1931 American list, big Chrysler, lincoln or Peerless come to mind, or a lesser Packard which may not be as tough to find and could be easier to sell later on than a lesser known car or less popular car.
  14. Not so lonely at the top of the US luxury car market in that era. Not sure the market then or now points to a clear leader. Another consideration is if you want a Full Classic or CCCA eligible car or just a nice interesting 6 or 8 cylinder example of the era. I am with Bernie though, you may want to file these away for now and see what else turns up. Mechanics on hudson seem a little questionable. Good luck with your search.
  15. Congrats on a great car. I get your logic for sure. We recently had an opportunity to acquire a Marquette with a similar long ownership history, etc. Not as impressive as the big REO, but a unique car. Well, we wanted an open car and know model A cars pretty well so we went that way instead. That said your going into it for all the right reasons IMHO. Congrats, and keep us posted on the homecoming!
  16. Moon. Zimmer. (snicker...) I knew someone who worked for them and they are a car company not a customizer according to him. Hmmm...
  17. John I stand corrected. Neat cars and always assumed US made, maybe due to powe plants used... I suppose your avatar is laughing at me this morning.
  18. Tucker Fitch Allard Muntz (love the reference Earl "madman"Muntz...) Meyers Manx Oh no Laydon, please don't suggest he go down the what's a classic, or classic vs. Full Classic path here. Either you get it or you don't and it's been rehashed a thousand times!! :-)
  19. Hmm, not sure either but assuming based on the selections and reasoning behind them that he understands those are typical attributes of a prewar car, especially for the late 20s to early 30s. We have some rather dedicated prewar guys from the heat belt on this forum. I suppose they suffer or take another car when it's too hot just like we store ours in winter up here. It's a totally different experience no resto mod can match. Not to speak for the op but just wondering if the a with a was more a circumstance thing than a conscious choice as the other two cars are essentially faithful to the era?
  20. Mercer. Pungs Finch. Brewster. Locomobile. I have a book on CT built cars not noted above but most are very obscure. As others have said this list already exists but still fun to weigh in anyway.
  21. Where does he get all those wonderful toys....
  22. My SL friends claim storage and sitting is what kills those cars and I have come to believe that is the case for all cars in general. A car that has seen little to no use in recent years is more suspect to me than a car that you might see frequently at local shows or tours, for example. Bugs have been worked out and lass likely something is radically wrong with it that needs immediate attention. That said I also believe it is rewarding to bring an older restoration that has been sitting back to life. Just more up front work is really all the difference I think. Mr. Harwood my new model A roadster doesn't leak (honest, strange but true) and no the fluids are not dried out, should I be suspicious? :-)
  23. Yes hopefully we get them together soon. My buddy is only one town over but he works third shift so we don't connect enough these days.
