PHD's figure out how to keep mice out of our cars.
danhar1960 replied to Dwight Romberger's topic in Buick - Pre War
Bob, Been there when that happened to a friend and some stray cat. Had to hose the poor bloody thing out of the engine bay. Danny -
It sounds like the Fisher body adjustment mechanism is nothing like the Holden bodied seats. On my front seat there are two arms on both sides of the seat that that allow the seat move in an arc to go up and down as well as back and forth. It has a big spring that pulls the seat forward and up when the lever is pulled up. The mechanism allows the seat to raise as it moves forward and goes down as it goes back. I guess the shorter your legs are, the more you need the height to see over the steering wheel. I pulled the whole thing apart to replace all the rubber bushes in those arms as the rubber had long gone and the seat just clunked all over the place. Danny

Yep, "Brylcreem, a little dab'll doya" Horrible how that jingle still comes back 40 years on. It was very popular when I was a kid. My father and a few uncles shovelled the stuff on every morning. I remember my grandmother running for a doyley to put on the back of the lounge chair every time we would visit her. Down here, we use Goanna Oil to polish our rocker covers. It's also a good rust preventative and good for anything that ails you from the pain of arthritis, rheumatism, lumbago, muscular soreness. Danny (Grant, according to our soon to be ex PM, it's fair suck of the sauce bottle. :) )

I run a 160 but Hey, I am in Australia. Going by your avatar, it looks like it gets a wee bit chillier where you are. Danny

It sure does look like a bug screen for the grill. I see you have the later type grill which is good. The screen maybe a good idea, but I don't think I would fit it in any area that was hot. '39s have air flow problems without adding to it. A nice, interesting accessory though. Danny

G'day JT and welcome aboard. Always good to see another fellow '39 show up here on the board. Your beasty looks a beaut. You are hereby bestowed with the illustrious honour of being a " '39 Buick Team Member ". Welcome to the gang. Can't help you much with glass as I've not had to do it yet. As for the engine, It's a bit of a pain but taking the sump pan off and having a good look around is always a good thing to do if the engine is completely unknown. These old girls accumulated a lot of sludge over the years and I've seen the oil pump completely cover in crud. If there is a lot of crap down there, detergent oil could cause all sorts of problems. Also check that you have a good supply of oil at the tappets. There is a pesky little screen in the system that is notorious for blocking up. It's been covered many times here. Look over Mike's (FLYER15015s) recent posts about his speedo, you might have the same problem, or a broken inner cable. Temperature capillary tubes an notorious for breaking but are easily repaired. I have the AC manuals for these. If you'd like a copy just shoot me your email address by PM and I'll email them to you. (PDFs) (or anyone else as well) Looking forward to hearing more about your beast. Danny

Mike, I'll send you over the AC speedometer manual (when I get home that is). It may be something simple. have a look see first now that it's out. Danny

'39 Buick Trippe lights...overheating???
danhar1960 replied to airbrushguy's topic in Buick - Pre War
RDMSTER Having a '39 81 makes you a prime candidate to be a "'39 Buick Team Member". Come on mate, join the gang. I have the fan shroud you speak of around here some where for my '39 40. There was also a sheet-metal piece that sat above the radiator too to stop air being drawn over the top. Danny -
Keith (and others), I have emailed a full PDF copy of the complete manual to those that requested it. It should come in 2 emails and are zipped into a self extracting file. Hopefully it works. If you didn't get them, let me know. I will get around to doing the "AC How to service Speedometers" manual as well at some point soon. It too may be helpful. Danny

'39 Buick Trippe lights...overheating???

Do you have the early or later type grill ?? The later type had less vertical bars and allowed greater air flow. How about a few pics now she's finished. Danny -
Probably 3) Combo of all or maybe the pressure plate diaphragm has died. Have you checked that the adjusting rod is not over adjusted ?? As the plate wears, the slack in the adjusting rod decreases. Sounds like somebody has already given the problem consideration and drawn a conclusion. At least you don't have to chase the parts. Danny

Bob, One of the selling points in '39 was there larger screen area to give more visibility. This is an illustration from a Holden body but it was the same for Fisher.

No problemo. Will do tonight. Danny

Keith, If they don't download, let me know and I'll email them to you. Danny

!939 Buick convertible coupe top assembly parts needed
danhar1960 replied to Bob H's topic in Buick - Buy/Sell
Bob, you should check out Earl's (Dynaflash8) '39 in the http://forums.aaca.org/f165/39-buick-team-membership-342274.html#post1113423 link as per Allan's post above. He may be able to help out or give you some insight as to where to go. He has just recently finished his off and will probably have pictures etc of what you need. One thing you can be sure of with Earl, It will be original !! Danny -
I had my crank and flywheel balanced as a unit when I had my engine rebuilt. I went to all the trouble of doing everything else so I figured why not invest the extra bucks to finish the job. I never got to see or hear the engine running prior to the rebuild as it was stuffed in every way but as it is today day, it is incredibly smooth when running. Danny

What are you after Billy ?? Danny

Ahhhhh, A symphony of cylinders !! Looking and sounding good. Danny

I'm with you on this one Dave. I like all the do-dads and gizmos too. No shed/garage should be without them. Danny
