danhar1960 will probably give you a good idea as to my age. I grew up believing my father when he told me he was a Spitfire pilot during WWII. At Grandma's house one day I asked her if she had any pictures of Dad with his Spitfire.... "Your father was still at school when the war was on"........... :( Danny

Looks like a nice straight car. So, what's the plan ?? Restore it, Hot Rod it or just drive it as it is ? Danny

Not working here too. Give it another go. Danny

Just out of curiosity, why did you delete the post ? Danny

I bought a N.O.S set off ebay about 2 years or so ago. If I remember rightly he had a few sets. I'll try and dig out his contact details and see if he still has them. Mind you, they weren't cheap. Danny

G'day Belkus8 and welcome aboard. Always great to have another '39er on the team. Looking forward to seeing some pics of your beast and the story behind getting her. Danny

Sorry about that mate, Seems I need to spend more time around my '38. Poor old girl never really gets looked at. My New Years resolution is to spend more time on the Buicks. (Sadly, that was also last years resolution but bloody life keeps getting in the way :) Hope it all turns out well for you Jenz. Danny

1936 Special master cylinder blasphemy or good upgrade?
danhar1960 replied to a topic in Buick - Pre War
I don't know about the US but here in Aus I have found that finding someone that actually knows something about cars AND sells parts is far and few between. Latest example was I was looking for a rubber boot/gator (??) that goes between the door pillar and the door and carries the speaker wire, central locking wires etc. My model Hilux didn't come with this but the model up did. The guy was totally stuffed as I couldn't supply a VIN number and just wasn't interested in pursuing it further. Same dope then couldn't sell me a bottle of injector cleaner as the bar code scanner wouldn't scan. Good grief !!!!!! Danny -
The torque ball looks different from memory. It doesn't look like it's set up for an enclosed torque tube. Maybe GM, but I don't think it's Buick. Danny

1936 Special master cylinder blasphemy or good upgrade?
danhar1960 replied to a topic in Buick - Pre War
A beautiful beast indeed !!! Rolled of the assembly line at about the same time that I did. :) I think I will ultimately go to a dual master. I've been in a car when a single master failed. Not fun !! I'm happy to sacrifice a little loss of originality for the safety benefits. Seat belts will also be going into my '39. -
1939 Buick Special, Holden Body - Gravel Deflector - Rear Bumper
danhar1960 replied to Rexbuick's topic in Buick - Pre War
Rex, Yours is correct for a Holden body and they do sit on top of the dummy irons. The long chassis used a different set of dummy irons to the short chassis. Yours seems to be in the correct place. If they were the short irons, I assume it has extensions welded on. Here's a shot of a couple of my gravel shields focusing in on the centre bracket in question. If you like I email it so you can enlarge it up. Every '39 that I've seen that had them were painted the same as the body colour. Danny -
How do I determine if my 1939 Buick is a "matching number" vehicle
danhar1960 replied to Rexbuick's topic in Buick - Pre War
Ahhhhhh, the old short chassis body to long chassis body conversion, having done it twice, I remember it well. . Norm Darwin only states the starting numbers of the model year for the chassis and the engine but makes no connection between the 2. I too have seen somewhere the info on when and where the chassis started out but I don't recall any connection between the engine and chassis. Matching is something that will never be associated with my '39. Over the years of having wrecked a few of them, mine will just be a compilation of original '39 parts but mostly from the later production models. My first short chassis had an engine with no rear crank seal as per '38 but the engine number was correct for '39. Body number will be a lucky dip from many as the colour and trim wont be as per original colours anyway. It will have the last series of grilles, later speedometer, the higher ratio steering, all the bits and bobs to stop the hood rattles etc...... Rex, does your '39 have sealed beam or Multibeam lenses and globes ?? (Assuming it still has a 6v system) Danny -
Welcome back Rex !! Always room for another " '39 Buick Team Member ", especially an Aussie !! Happy New Year mate. Is Will still working on his '39 ?? Did you ever get around to making a towbar for the beast ?? Danny

Back at you mate !!!! Danny

Happy new year from down under. Hopefully it will be a great year for everyone. Danny in Aus

Merry Christmas to Buick enthusiasts all over the world!
danhar1960 replied to a topic in Buick - Pre War
Once again it's that time of the year. Looking forward to enjoying the day with the kids tomorrow as it really is all about them. Hopefully it wont be 40C+ again. Had a few of those lately. May your Buicks run well and long through the coming years. Merry Christmas to all the '39 Buick Team Members and all the other Buickers out there in forum land. Hope to see you all back here next year to do it all again. Danny P.S Rumour has it that when Santa isn't out in the sleigh, HE DRIVES A BUICK !!!! True !! -
It's that time of the year for me when I hardly get time to scratch myself. Danny
-
Looks like its all happening there Billy. Danny
-
I like that idea !!! Danny

Wow, you '40 guys are pretty easy going. To be a '39 Buick Team Member you need to be a person of dubious moral character, questionable intelligence and have some semblance of a sense of humour. :) Danny

G'day Jimmy, Welcome aboard !! It is a common problem with these straight eights. The flywheel can go on incorrectly and the result is as you describe. The dope that rebuilt my engine did it also. There is a new timing mark on my flywheel now. If I remember rightly, there is a chamfer on the ring-gear. Might be a problem having flipped it. Both of these subjects have been gone over many times. Mike in Colorado has just gone through the bent rods exercise with his '40. I'm sure he'll chime in with a few helpful tips (and probably try and rope you in to be one of the '40 team) :) Danny
