I agree the blue one doesn't look like the same truck. And I'm not sure that's a Bel Air Chevy. Looks to me lika a 210 series with a Bel Air style repaint. Don

There was a late twenties Elcar coupe or cabriolet in Chattanooga, TN in the early 60's. It had the RR style radiator shell. I used to have photos but can't find them now. Any idea where it is now? Don

1976 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Crown Landau - Help
DLynskey replied to Michelle 76 Olds's topic in Oldsmobile - General
Look at the dates. Michelle last posted in 2007. It's doubtful you will get a response from her. Don -
Looks like the same '36 Ford as in the center of the other photo. Notice the Tennessee license plate wit another plate above it.

B. J. Palmer was a very flamboyant individual so it is not surprising that he would have his "logo" displayed prominently on his automobile. It is also not surprising that he would be driving a Velie which was a local product. He would have been well acqainted with the Velie family as they were all prominent residents of the (then) Tri-city metropolitan area of Moline and Rock Island, IL and Davenport, IA. Don

I can't read it all, but the first digits indicated the county the car was registered in. "1" was assigned to Davidson County, the home of Nashville, the state capital. The others were in order of the population when the system was initiated. 2 - Shelby County, Memphis, the most populous county in Tennessee. 3 - Knox County, Knoxville 4 - Hamilton County, Chattanooga etc. Just curious. Where is the house located? In the Memphis area? Don

The license tag is from Shelby County (Memphis), Tennessee. Don

1936 Packard Business Coupe Vehicle #X73771
DLynskey replied to dgpnaples's topic in Packard - Buy/Sell
I was following a vintage car the other day. When he turned abruptly without signaling I thought he should know better. Then I realized he actually had turn signals and was using them, but they were quite small and mounted way down on the rear bumper where they were barely visible in the bright daylight. Just a thought. By the way, I second what the others have said about the Packard. I've never driven one but have always thought the 120 coupe is one of the best proprtioned cars ever. I'm envious. ... And blackwall tires on both of these magnificent vehicles! I love the double rear spares in the vintage photo. The absence of sidemounts emphasizes the long hood and overall impressive size of the car. Don
-
The one in the background looks like a rear view to me. Instead of a grille I see a trunk lid with a high-mounted center license tag. But I'm on an iPad with a small screen. Don

In a previous version of the forum software, random photos from the "Gallery" were displayed on the right hand side of the forum pages. I really enjoyed seeing the photos and would frequently click on a photo to enlarge it. This would take me to the gallery and I would often spend time there looking at other photos. (On the other hand, maybe I don't need anything to encourage me to spend even more time on my favorite website). Could this feature be brought back? I believe it would greatly increase the awareness and use of this valuable AACA resource. I have a number of comments and suggestions relating to the gallery. I will try to post one periodically just to keep the discussion to one comment/question at a time. Don

JOKES with old cars as the theme...tell one!
DLynskey replied to trimacar's topic in General Discussion
For a number of years I've noticed a man and his wife selling parts at their space at Hershey. This year I noticed the old gentlemen was by himself. I asked about his wife and he said she had passed away. "This is the first time in 44 years that I have been by myself at Hershey and it's really lonesome." he said. I told him he said he should have had a friend come with him. He replied "I tried to, but my friends were all going to the funeral". Don -

And even more amazing, they drove down to the river in a 1935 coupe and it turned into a 1936 sedan just before they drove into the water. Don -

In the 1970's a friend in WV had a prewar pickup with a postwar front clip. It had a Cadillac engine and hydramatic and was his daily driver. He drove it each year to the Indy 500 and had all the stickers on it to prove it. Don -
Too bad you inherited the photos and not the cars. Very nice cars, indeed. Don

I agree the second car appears to be a Chevrolet. If so it is a 1927. Don

Looks homemade to me. Don

Do We Still Have a Gallery?

Mr. Earl, here's another one for you. Not mine, just saw it on CL. https://charleston.craigslist.org/cto/5537713550.html I'm selling this 1954 Buick Special for a friend. The car is in good condition for it's age. It is equipped with a 150 horsepower V8 with an automatic transmission. Here's what I know about the car. The car needs a paint job and some work on the chrome, but it's very solid and the interior is in excellent condition with no tears in the upholstery. This car runs and drives nice. The odometer reads 16,024 miles. The engine was rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago. The gas tank was removed and sent off to be reconditioned and apoxy sealed several years ago. This is only the second owner of the car, and he's had the car for about 16 years. If you're looking for an old car like this to fix up and have fun cruising around in, then this is the one I would buy. I've seen ones like this one out there in a whole lot worse condition and for a lot more money. The owner isn't able to restore it and he doesn't want to see the car go to waste. Please serious calls or texts only. No Trades. Cash only! If interested call or text. Price: $7,000.00 In St. Stephen, SC. Don

Not difficult to see why the seller "lost interest".

As coutrytravlr said if you look at the original poster's info, the last time he logged on to the forum was Feb. 2014 so it is unlikely he will see your post. You might try sending him a private message (click on his name and follow directions). There is a chance he would get the message if his id is set up for PM's. Don
