  1. What year? There were a number of variations of size and style.
  2. The swap meet is definitely a challenge as to decide when to go. You have to go through early to find the rare bits or great deals before someone else snaps up that part you desperately need. However, not all vendors are there at the beginning...and not all of them are there at the end. I attempt to go through things at least twice, close to the beginning of the meet, and closer to the end, so I can see all the vendors. That said, having a list of what you are after, and knowing what you are capable of carrying back home with you helps a lot. If all you are looking for is a particular year, especially pre-war, makes it a lot quicker as there are entire vendors you can quickly eliminate as not having what you are after.
  3. It's a play on my surname and came to be a nickname in university. I'd like that new Wildcat concept...it could lose the squared off "c" in the front fender...reminds me too much of a Mustang styling detail...just incorporate the sweepspear all the way through to the front fender and it would be great. If they do come out with it, it would likely be after the children are grown, so it wouldn't be bad to have a two seater for She Who Must Be Obeyed and myself to cruise in. Buick with a V6...hmmm...interesting possibilities.
  4. The ManitoBuick contingent (at least all the cars I'm aware of) will be leaving the morning of the 15th. There's a '41 Limited that won't make the trip due to health issues, but I tried to convince its steward that the Roadmaster Estate Wagon (last generation) was a club car and would be welcome at the meet.
  5. If I counted right, there are four 1923 Model 54 listed in the 2011 BCA roster.
  6. The Buick Gallery in Flint has always been a favourite place of mine. At the meet in 2003 in Flint, nearly all of Buick's concept cars to date were there (they may all have been there, but I'm not quite certain) between the Buick Gallery and GM's collection coming out. It is great that so many of these have been kept for posterity. I think it is tremendous that there are usually one or two at every BCA National Meet. Two weeks....
  7. I don't think it is that we don't want to be around Chevy owners, so much as Buicks are unique. What draws some of us to the Buick marque is that uniqueness (it certainly did it for me, then things got out of control). The issue is that some of the Chevrolets you see at these shows, while they may not be a dime a dozen, certainly appear the same...it becomes monotonous to look at Chevs all the time. Similarly, for me at least, it can be bothersome for folks to fawn over the "aura" (for lack of a better term) of the tri-five Chevrolets. Buicks were more powerful, more uniquely styled, and more well-appointed. Yet, a Buick Special in the value guides rates somewhere around a Chev 150. Go figure. I find a similar thing if you look at the first generation Mustang - they may have unique options, but they all look the same, until you get beyond the notchback era to where there were some fastbacks and such. Personally, a big affront to me is the offense taken by the original poster (at least seemingly). He is putting in personal effort to promote Buick folks to come out, but not seeing results. It makes sense that will generate some frustrations.
  8. I can attest to that...don't let these boys spend too much of your money on cars they like
  9. While in Vegas, you may want to check out The Auto Collections - Las Vegas, Nevada - there is a free admission coupon on the web site you can print out. I may go when I'm there about 2 weeks after South Bend. There's also an interesting collection at the Imperial Palace - Classics.com - The Imperial Palace Auto Collection Enjoy the trip. Looking forward to finding some excuse to celebrate the Commonwealth.
  10. Parts availability is easy...go down to Jawga, ply MrEarl with some libations, and remove what you need from what is scattered about Buick Gardens. Now, that may end up costing you more in the long run than you are willing to pay.
  11. I'm looking forward to meeting that car John...and you and Joe too.
  12. Grinning and chuckling. Sounds like a blast.
  13. Good thing this thread popped back up...I'd intended to show it to my 17 year old, who is also quite artistic. She was duly impressed.
  14. I have to wonder about what some folks call national events and hold them at one end of the continent. Granted, there's a good population there, but if you want to see a national event featuring Buick, hold it in Michigan, preferably Flint, and see what happens. I'm not trying to be overly negative, but people have to pick and choose what they attend. Getting over 70 Buicks to an event that isn't a BCA event is actually quite an accomplishment overall. Now, if people can only afford enough financially or time-wise to attend one big event, what would be the draw of this over the BCA National meet, or perhaps a regional meet, if Buicks are their primary interest? Some BCA members also have other brands (I can't explain it, but apparently it happens), so may be members of other clubs that also pull on their purse strings and vacation time. I know for me, time has changed what I do...I used to fish a lot, but then the cars started taking priority, so fishing declined...now building the business and my wife's health are taking priority, so participation in car events has declined. Now, if what the others state is true about the "all GM show" being dominated by Chevrolet, then perhaps the Buick folks don't find it particularly fun to attend. If it has a reputation for that, why would people attend? The questions are essentially rhetorical. I know what it is like when something you are involved in doesn't go over well, but there are a lot of factors on people's time and money and they may not attend any particular event.
  15. I've seen that before...it looks like the morning after meeting Stephi....
  16. A bunch of wage information at automotive wage history - from both written sources and memory.
  17. If you read the press release, Buick divided their history into 10 year slices, not per decade. If they had done it based on the calendar, then there would have been 12 cars needing to be picked. As it is, it is 1903-12, 1913-1922, 1923-1932, 1933-1942, etc. So, having two cars from the 1930s works, although it looks odd if all you look at is the photo gallery.
  18. Cool. Thanks for sharing. I've been wanting to get started on the artillery wheels on my '29, so this is good to see.
  19. Cool. The boy's high school team is the Crusaders. Thanks for the chuckles. I'd seen the cattle one before. We don't have much truly creative advertising any more...of course, I don't watch much TV any more either.
  20. Funnier still is someone referencing "cold" and Georgia in the same sentence.
  21. I was worried Mike was going to hook up with Paul and be useless as a mechanic.... Sounds like fun. Have a good time. Oh...the one photo is a '36.
  22. I guess I should have capitalized the MAY in my earlier post. I don't have high expectations, but perhaps high hopes.
  23. I agree that it is rude. Unfortunately, I think that falls into the "Welcome to the 21st century" category of things.
  24. Thanks Grant...I think you may have just added to my bucket list to see an international match live.
