  1. Don't let a little ol torque tube scare you away from the Buick's. There have been new type seals that have taken away a lot of the frustration of the leaking torque ball.   5. He he yea, I've been known to put some folks in some Buicks before... But I'll cease and desist on this one...that gasket he mentioned.... is a head gasket. And still no word on the AC . My email to him and his long winded response; Hi, if the Buick is still available please let me know. What is the status of the air conditioner. Which engine gasket does it need. I live in Athens GA, would there be any concerns with it being driven that far? Thanks >>> Yes, the car is still here, ready to go. It is an awesome solid metal, near rust free classic. It does need some engine work. It runs pretty good as is, and drives smooth, but it will need a new engine gasket and a few other bits to fully restore this beauty. I believe, from my investigation so far, it is the back/firewall side head gasket. There is also what sounds like a valve guild rattle intermittently when the engine is at say 2000 or more RPMs, and returns down to the idealing 750 RPMs. It sort of makes a "Rrriiittt" sound at the last second before coming back to a nice smooth sounding idle. This is something that would easily be replaced when inside replacing the gasket. That is the main thing the car needs to be mechanically sound. I am not flexiable on the price though. It will either sell for the 600 or I will personally buy the 3-400 in parts it needs and rebuild it myself raising the selling price considerably. I simple don't have time right now to give to it and would rather free up the space and money to put towards other projects needs. As for as how far you could drive it as is. Let me explain things this way. The engine work that is needed is the typical scnerio around here in that most people driving up and down these mountains push engines harder then they should and over pressure them. As a result, the martket is flooded with cars and trucks sold cheap becuase the engine is "blown" and nobody wants to put the time or money into repairing them. Well, in this case the engine is NOT blown. It's only just starting to leak a little oil along the side of the engine block. But it has devoloped to the point where the reduced compression in that cyclinder reduces power avaiable to the whole cycle, meaning that when you try to "power" it up hills/mountains, if the engine is "warmed up", and perhaps even a little angry that day, you'll only have about 75 to 80 percent of engine power. This is only going to get worse until it's fixed. But also realize it drives and coasts like a dream, so "IF", a person babied it a long, sort of letting roll on down these mountains (the brakes are good by the way), and cruised along at say 55-65mph through the flat lands, it should make a for a long distance trip. I personally think I would use highways rather then back roads simply becuase they tend to be strighter and less hilly and windy. Once up to speed it does cruise nicely. I would also have a quart of oil ot two just in case for such a long way. But honestly, I think with any luck it should make it. Basically though, without being fixed it is on browed time and would only serve as a great little town car/grocery getter for around the way. Once it's fixed, you could sail out to Califorina and back no worries. And this really is a car that's worth the investment for someone who sees it's true valve.   8. Now that all that is straightened out I'm just seeing this as a nice looking lil Buick that would make a nice driver for somebody. While not interested in actually buying I emailed the seller just to see if it is still available and the status of the AC and engine gasket. We will see...
  9. Was there reference made to it being a LeSabre? I missed it if so. Educate me here Pete. The Park Avenue of the later 80's were the top of the line Electra's right. And then there was a less optioned Electra Limited? If so then this appears to be the best Buick had to offer in "89? What were some of the trim options that make this a Park Avenue? I'm surprised at the condition given it is a 190,000 mile car. What kind of mileage are these 3800 engines known to be good for? This ad is over a month old and no phone number. I'm thinking it likely sold by now.
  10. I actually have an old "new in box" shifter for a five bolt but can't remember for sure if it is an Ansen or Drag-Fast. If Ansen, then the shift mechanism would likely be the same. Ansens were, from all I've read, the best in the day. I also have an old Fenton and a home made job that knowing your genius propensity to design, you may could use to fab up your own shifter. "The Beemon Dynaflow Eliminator"

  16. 6 hours down, couple to BS and load and 6 back would make for a long but good day trip. These things with the tranny attached are heavy and cumbersome to lift and move. I guess I could park it next to the spare that came with the '38. If no one else is interested I may call and see what he wants for it.
