  1. If you're going to run a test a fine one it is (and a great looking nailhead!)
  2. Congratulations, Rebecca! It any of the "clunking" under the car has a high-pitched ting, ting check the park brake cable to see if the rubber bushing that attaches to the torque tube is missing. If it is the cable plays a "here comes a Buick" tune that my "Ford only" best friend used to rub in when we were kids... Continued good luck with the '50.
  3. Rebecca, Do not think you need to worry. If everything is quiet you are getting oil (believe me when you are not you will hear plenty of clatter). I'd say drive it and change the oil frequently. No need for a lot of oil to be squirting about.
  4. Not a very clear picture of the July 15th issue of Parade magazine. Definately a Buick (think '49?) with a pretty lady sittin' tall! Maybe one of you who is a bit more computer savvy can copy and paste a picture from parade.com?
  5. Rick, I'll let an expert chime in but my dad loves telling the story of how for less than $5 he was able to buy the script and put on his '47 so it looked just like a '48 (this in 1950 shortly after buying the '47) so I think the script was not on them until '48.
  6. Well, if So California is still a leader in auto trends this may be good news. I see quite a few LaCrosse's (still has not grown on me - especially the backend) and regularily see Lucern's (look is growing on me). As Dave mentions - sedate styling but easy on the eye. Now a sporty looking model of each would be nice. Anyone have sales figures by state? I'm thinking Buick may be up in California
  7. Ah well, women. What are you going to do, Lamar? Can't live with them, can't live without them...

  9. Gee and I thought the before and after pictures in weightloss ads were dramatic. Great looking "after"...
  10. Lamar, I'm with Carl - looks like it is either a 50, 51 or 52 horn ring. Had both a 50 & 52 and they are fixed in my mind as being the same (so would think a '51 would be as well). Nice looking!

Nice looking - not cheap.) 1971 Buick Skylark - $3000 Reply to: see below Date: 2007-06-06, 11:35AM PDT This car is a 1971 Buick Skylark. White. Automatic. Resembles a Chevelle. It has a 350 2 BBL engine. It car is in great condition besides some minor body damage and the seats need to be re-upholstered. The odometer reads 91,000. The transmission was just re-build about 1000-1500 miles ago. This is a really great car with a lot of possibilities. MAJOR SLEEPER. I have a few aftermerket parts that I have but haven't put on yet (Crome valve covers, etc). Really great car but am forced to sell due to a move i'm making. Hit me up to schedule a viewing and maybe we can mess around with the price. Contact me at: benyates@verizon.net (Apple Valley - desert car - bit high priced I think)
  12. I've had these for so long... Two factory ceramic coated mufflers, two factory Delco starters. All brand new, made three moves with me and the boxes long ago rotted but if there is interest I can get part numbers (from the starter motors at least - uncertain if it is stamped on mufflers but can describe). Just let me know. Don't know why I kept other than they were too good to pass up. AMC dealer was closing and a friend picked them up for next to nothing and kept for several years before realizing he would never use them so, of course, I acquired them. If I had been keeping them in the house all of this time I would be in big trouble... In the Los Angeles area (Glendale).

  14. '54 & '55 transmissions are bolt in identical and if swapping into a '54 will actually work provided one gets the proper linkage so the kick-down (actually the stator blades rotating to achieve maximum "performance" position) works. An easy switch which I did on my '54 Super I had 43 years ago. You are correct the the differences between transmissions is entirely in the output shaft and housing. Been too many years to remember the measured difference but it is not too much and if one could not find the right transmission to just bolt in it would not be hard to exchange their old gear (not too much to wear out there either). I'll leave the '56 comments to someone who knows that transmission better than I.
  15. What, you did not take the '60, Dave? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
  16. <span style="font-style: italic">Very</span> cool, Derek. Enjoy!
  17. Congratulations, Grant. And now on to the wedding... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
  18. Rigo, Looking good! Everything looks really solid. Have you run into any serious rust? Would be terrific if you don't. You are making great progress and appreciate the pictures and updates. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
  19. Cool, Brian. See that it apparently has updated brakes (still drums) which should make it a lot easier to drive with confidence. Thanks for posting! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
  20. Do not know if you will decide to redo the seat or not but last Saturday I went to the San Gabriel Valley annual show and overheard the owner of a very sharp '55 Century talking to another guy about the upholstery in the car. Seems as though he sent an old original sample to someplace in China where they examined the material and then wove some new cloth to match the original. Been five years since I sold my Century but it looked dead on correct to me. Was a bit pricy but really looked good. Sorry that I don't know the owners name or who to contact but you might be able to contact the SGV chapter and ask them if they can put you in touch with the fellow. In any event enjoy the car.
  21. Grant, Any chance you replaced your voltage regulator? If so you need to polarize it (procedure should be in your shop manual). If you had the car apart for a long time you may need to do the same to the original regulator as well. Good luck.
  22. Nice ride, Rafael. And as another has already stated - great to see the straight eight still living where it is supposed to be. Enjoy the ride, Gene
  23. Jim, Found this web page which seems right to me. I am pretty certain the Riviera was NOT in the showroom with the other '63's when my pals and I made our yearly trip up and down the local drag where all the auto showrooms were so Oct 2 '62 seems likely to be accurate. Uncertain when production actually began at the assembly plant but would guess at least two months prior so they could finish and ship. Gene
  24. Bruce, Such luck to have a working '38 that has been in the family so very long and is so complete! You can get restoration books that are general (but quite useful) at your nearest Borders or Barnes & Noble and should check out Matt Harwoods website covering his '41 Century restoration at web page for some really good stuff. Good luck.
