  2. Rebuilt engine. I did not rebuild it but the guy who did was going to put it into his car. I have tried to contact him to ask exactly what he did but I have not been able to reach him. He worked in an auto parts store. I assume he probably did a pretty good job. 2 bbl intake manifold, spark plug covers, manifolds, painted the correct green. One broken exhaust manifold stud. strapped to a palet. Looking for $1200.00 frawling@bristolhomeloans.com
  3. Pair of nice rust free front fenders from 65 Electra with pretty nice looking chrome trim, the doors are rust free with glass and some handles but no electric switches. Open to offers.   6. The side apron is a pretty simple shape. Look for a sheet metal fabricator in your area and see if he can make one using the other side or the remains of what you have as a pattern. I was able to have 1928 sun visors reproduced that way and I know that Nells Egge of Egge Machine had a set made for his 1924 Buick that came out really nice.
  7. Check the vacuum line to the vacuum tank to see if you have vacuum. Pull the tube from the gas tank and check to see that if there is a screen on the tube, that it is clean. Put a small piece of newspaper against the vent from the vacuum tank to see if it holds when you let it go. If it holds by itself, your problem is probably in the valves of the vacuum tank. One valve is not seating and blocking out the vent line so there is no vacuum in the tank. With the top off the tank, you can block various openings and suck or blow on on other openings to see if the valves work. A piece of vacuum hose helps. You can lap the valves with grey polishing compound or even tooth past.
  8. Joe Kreps made gears for the 29 to 35 cars and was selling them for around $800.00 a set. Look him up in the roster and see what information he can help you with.
  9. Joe, I was under the impression that 1940 to1954 ring and pinion gears were interchangeable in any of the rear ends from those years. You mention that 1955 is not interchangeable in your message. Are you referring to only 1955 or does that larger pinion being too big apply to other years?
  10. The battery to ground wire is #1 size black insulated wire 14 1/4 inches long. The wire goes into the terminal clamp from the side and the measurement is from the side oposite where the wire enters the clamp to the connection on the other end of the wire. On the end that the bolt goes through, the measurement is to the end of the connector but not including the flat part with the hole for the bolt. There are no dimensions for the other items. Send me your e=mail address and I will e-mail you a page from the illustrated parts book. The book shows the radiator pad to be a round washer but does not give dimensions. I can send you that page also. Perhaps you can blow up the picture until the bolt hole is the right size and then measure the diameter of the washer.   11. My dad never bought white walls because of the cost. Every car that I remember him owing from a 1936 Ford up to the 55 Chevy, had black walls.

  20. You need to specify the size. The 40 series came with 16 x 4.25 inch wheels, the 50 series had 16 x 4.5 inch rims and the 60 and 90 series had 16 x 4.5 inch rims.
  21. All the articles that I have read indicate that you should use new modern oil in your old car. The newest modern oils have less zinc additive than there used to be. The zinc helps reduce wear. Detergent in oil is designed to hold the particles in suspension, not disolve them from where they are deposided. If the detergent oil did loosen up some of the deposits, you would see them in the oil and could change the oil. If you are worried about loosening the deposits, then you should probably be more concerned that the deposits are plugging up the oil passages and reducing the flow of oil to the engine parts; and what ever was loosened up by detergent oil, even if the detergent would loosen them up, is a very minor problem compaired to the reduced oil passages.
  22. There was an article in Skinned Knuckels Magazine a few years ago where the author use the bulb from a new theperature sender to repair the old gauge. He made a copper tube with the same inside diameter as the capilary tube on the temperature gauge, cut the old bulb off the old temp. gauge and soldered the copper tube to the temperature gauge end of the old gauge. Then he put the bulb of the new gauge in dry ice to suck all the gas down into the bulb, cut the new bulb off the new gauge leaving some of the capilary tube on it. He then soldered the new bulb to the tube which was soldered onto the old gauge capilary tube. The last time I checked, new gauges were around $30.00. I was thinking of buying a used gauge that still worked at the swap meet and trying it out.
