    sound deadner?

Hi On my 40 Buick i purchased a waffle type tar paper material. Used as insulator in trunk lid and doors. Purchased from CARS, Inc www.buick-parts.com Jim Schlf p0albuick@aol.com
  2. Welcome to the board. I have oilpan gaskets, need series 40/60/70. Also the trunk emblem is different for the trunk sedan and the coupes. There are several 39 owners here who may help you. Would be nice to know where you are located Jim Schilf plabuick@aol.com
  3. I tuned in just to catch the 2002 Park Ave Ultra, Beautiful looking car, from buick concept car collection, Auto Show special. Only 2300 miles, If I remember right it went for 18K. The other was supe nice Riviera, a 1998 all Black, with special Wildcat emblems,on quarter panels and on dash. A one off car, that some lucky buyer purchased for 23K. JIm Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  4. Hi Brian I am also looking for a 54 Buick Special/Century parts car. Need a left rear quarter 2 dr. and some other various parts. If you happed to locate a parts car, let me know when finished with it I live just outside of Rockford Ill abot 15 miles from wisconsin line. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  5. What king of headlights are they for ? Tiltray made flat and convex lenses. Is there a number on the lense? What make of vehicle do you want the lenses for? Jim Schlf palbuick@aol.com
  6. The special rear fenders are the same as the century. JIm Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  7. This material was also used in the doors of most cars from the late 30s through the late 60s. Jim Schlf palbuick@aol.com
  8. I removed the inner cross braces from the trunk lid on my 40 buick, cut it out glued the paper insulation down and welded cross brace back. A lot of work. If you are restoring the car to concours condition , only way to go. Otherwise cut and piece and glue. This material was basically a sound insulator and kept the trunk from rattling. Jim Schlf palbuick@aol.com
  9. I have a NEW perfect pair, red plastic with all chrome letters. 65.00 pair plus postage. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  10. I believe that this is an insulation material. Feels and looks like tar paper, but with a waffel design. Available through Bobs automobilia and Cars inc. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  11. Hi John Didn't the 70 use the small block at the bottom of the battery and bolt to the battery tray. If this is the one many of the bigger parts stores have these, were used on many other GM cars. JIm Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  12. Thanks to a member the radio was identified, 1940-47 Chevrolet 5 Band 6 volt .
  13. Hi Greg From what I have learned over the years about the aluminum drums is, They have a steel lining, and once it srarts to seperate from the alum drum they aren't worth diddly. You can have them turned but after a couple of quick stops the insert will seperate, giving you a thump/thump. How these guys can pay those high prices for these rims, and not knowing about the steel linings. To check them, clean the back edge of the drum where the steel liner meets the alum. drum, if you can see any gap between them, or slip a feeler gage between, should think twice about them Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  14. I sent e-mail to seller about 3 days ago, asking if I might view car for a friend. I only live less than 10 miles from Rockford. I remember seeing this car at the 1971 or 72 Nationals in Flint. Today I got response from seller." NO ONLY PERSON BUYING CAR CAN SEE AND DEAL WITH ME DOES HE NOT HAVE COMPUTER." Message was not even signed. In my opinion, if you want to sell any vehicle you would gladly invite someone interested to inspect, be it a buyer or someone acting for a buyer. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  15. Why would you risk all your time money and work, trying to use the oil soaked lining. Buy new linings . I don't believe you can ever get the linings dry. I may be wrong but why chance it> Jim Schlf palbuick@aol.com
  16. Hi Rich Really appreciate the information on the radio, I knew that the 41 Buicks had the tri band radio, and I think that it was used in 41-42 only. Didn't know that Chev had the tri-band radio. Really a nice piece with original knobs, havent tested yet. Thanks Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com

  18. Just returned from swap meet where I purchased a Chevrolet radio. 6V Model # 985697 Serial # E-41-16236. Possibly a short wave radio as it has several different tuner settings. The back cover is removable and has a Chevrolet tag with the model number on it. Any help appreciated. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
  19. I have the same car as this one. Nothing about the posi or gear ratrio, std on all GS Wildcats. Power vent windows were not available on Wildcats. I believe that the Sport wheels should have a black center section. Now if this is a standard Wildcat with the GS option, this is a really low production car. I don't believe that the quoted number of cars with A/C and P.S, is correct. May car has both A/C . PS and cruise control, and more options. No mention of radio, stero, am-fm, am. Engine compt looks very good. Trunk is missing some cardboard, and cardboard around latch ????. Over all a nice looking car. If anyone is going to bid , first ask seller if he has the Production sheet, and it will show the G.S. option. vin number is correct for Wildcat Standard series The early Wildcat G.S had script lettering on rear 1/4 and on trunk lid
  20. I had my 40 gas tank redone about 3 years ago, thru the Gas tank Renu co. I took it to a company in Rockford Ill. This auto repair co. was a dealer for the Gas Tank Renuit co. I cried when it when returned , then I started to threaten everyone with Bodily harm. They had cut two long srtips out of the bottom of the tank,2" X 7". to get into to sandblast tank inside. Then brazed up hole and covered with a black coating. All this work was done by someone whose brain was fried on pot or a drunken monkey. and the charge was 190.00. After a lot of hollering I got hold of owner and after threatening a law suit, he showed up within 10 minutes and wrote me a refund check, then had all the coating removed. The tank was so bad I had to find another, Finding a good tank for a 40 buick ain't easy. If you send a tank to have resealed look at their work first, ask if anyome has used the company before. A good idea would be take some pictures before sending off . Another idea is to demmand that if tank has to be opened only open the top of tank, this part is not seen when installed. 25. Hi The star wars air cleaner was ment for the Q-Jet carb, and 1966 was the first year for this carb, unless you have changed intake and carb it won't work. If you can get it with the base reasonable, go ahead. I have several air filter elements for the star wars cleaner, Purolator & AC Delco. Jim Schilf palbuick@aol.com
