  1. All that work and it doesn't run? Seems strange. The good news: if it's been in Nevada all that time there shouldn't be any rust issues.
  2. Too late for a restoration. I'd just run with what it is now. It would be an awesome show car if finished nicely. In fact I'd take a close look if it weren't across the country from me.
  3. Around 1969, during high school, my buddy worked at a gas station in the SF bay area. He constantly came across worn out cars that customers didn't want to fix, so a bunch of us would chip in and buy them for $25 or less. Then we'd take them out to the bay mud flats (now known as Silicon valley) and absolutely destroy them. I won't tell you what models they were, just that I have many regrets now.
  4. I never liked these cars, but I like this one. It all seems to work. And the price is right.
  5. Funny, this is the exact year and model of my first car. Bought it for $20. Of course, it had a blown piston, but that didn't really matter because I was only 15. Bought new parts and had it running soon after. Had lots of fun driving it around the block, but no further...
  6. It has some interesting upgrades: Modern E-brake and speedo, wood grain dash, Impala rear seat speaker... Wish I could see under the hood.
  7. This response is for AARonAF. It seems I am not able to respond directly to him because I haven't used this site enough (?). I own a 1931 8-57 (the redheaded step child of the '31 models). I am looking for the steering wheel levers and horn button; tail light lens and bezel; fuel gauge; front floor mat; speedo cable (not the housing);cowl chrome. The car has duel sidemount spares, but I am missing one of the curved hold downs and the wingnut that goes with it. I hope this gets to you...
  8. I am looking for the steering wheel center levers and horn button. Also, Side mount spare curved hold down and wing nut. Email me at pmiller@millerinfo.com
  9. To remove the hubs on my 1931 8-57, without a puller, I removed the differential cover, then the screw, block and spider gears inside. I then backed the hub nut off to just beyond the threads and whacked it with a hammer, which pushed the axel in and the hub came loose. Messy but easy. Also gave me a chance to clean out the housing and put in fresh oil.
  10. AARon AF If the buyer is going to part it out, I am in need of many parts. I'm in the PNW area, so not too far. Please let me know. Phil 253 279-8058
  11. Regarding the tail light lens; if the distance between the screw holes is 3 1/4", center to center (or 3.25) I'll take it. You can reach me at pmiller@millerinfo.com
  12. I would be interested in the horn button and levers on the steering wheel.
  13. Thanks Mark. I looked them up and it turns out they are only a half hour away from me. After calling and talking to Sandy, I brought my old seal and hub to him, and he cut new felt right then and there. Now that's customer service.
  14. Does anyone know where I can look for new axle seals for an early model '31 Buick 8-57? This car was produced in Sept of 1930, so it has the open driveline, probably a Marquette leftover. The seal cover shows "Victor 49760". Any help would be appreciated.
  15. If you have the rear engine mounts please contact me.
  16. Recently I started my own "Buick rescue society". It consists of me and one 1931 model 8-57. The car had been torn into by a hot rodder with plans to put a small block V8 in it. He got as far as pulling off the front sheet metal, torching out a cross member and brake pivot bar, welding in a new engine mount and losing various small original parts. The seats are there, but the rest of the interior is gone. Perhaps seeing the error of his ways, he stopped and put the car up for sale. When I went to see it I found the original engine laying in the dirt. There were boxes and boxes of parts covered in leaves, so many, in fact, that I believed all the parts were there. Unfortunately that was not true, which is why I am writing this. The following is a list of what I know is missing. There will probably be additions to it, but for now I ask for help in finding the following: Roll up windshield and/or the frames to use on new glass wiper motor engine water pump right rear (bell housing) engine mount mid section cross member Brake system cross bar (fulcrum?) the two support bars that go from the top of radiator to the firewall steering wheel center controls The society would appreciate any and all leads that would help in the restoration of this worthy vehicle.
  17. I know this is an old thread, but I am looking for some pretty obscure parts and figured I'd give it a shot. I have a 1931 8-57 and am in need of the brake system (for lack of a better word) fulcrum which is the bar that crosses the frame about mid way and actuates the brake cables. The former owner cut mine in half!? Also need one bell housing engine mount. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Hello Pete i think you solved a mystery for me. I just bought a 1931 8-57 in Washington state. Manufacture date 09/18/30. Engine number 2639787. Open driveline. However, the transmission was not bolted in, but the purchase included two trans, both of which are synchro. Theses are not the correct trans are they? Also, the placement of the engine ID number (above front left lifter cover) indicates it's a 33/34 engine. Can you confirm any of this for me? Thank you. Phil
  19. Tom I'm interested in the transmission and water pump. Do you still have those?
  20. Hello Joel I too own a 1931 Model 8-57. Mine is in need of various parts (aren't they all?). If you decide to part yours out, I'm your man.
