  1. I will try that. I'll just double up on the straps!😁
  2. Plmouthcranbrook, I hear ya, I'm 72 and have all I need except for my late love Margie and some pain medication. A lift would be nice also! o oo
  3. I like O'reilly's. I didn't at first. I thought they are more expensive than the others. But the 99% of the time they have what I want and of is of good quality. They also are helpful.as they can be
  4. Roadworthy rescues , Derek inspired me to not be afraid to drive any shit box home from where ever!
  5. Me too! I thought I was the only knucklehead to do this because all my buddies think i'm touched. But it works for all the reasons stated by the others. My cousin has a carpet business and when mine gets dirty or oily I call him for something he's gonna tear out and leaves it big. Me I prefer thicker , it's mucho more comfey although rolling smaller wheels around is a little difficult ercult me too
  6. I was there in 2018 on a trip across country and I did a lot of 66. It was open to the public I bought a few gifts for family and friends and they even had some vintage clothing for sale. Very nice people! I was driving my late wife's 2003 Mercedes SLK 320 back and forth from Mass to Arizona as a tribute to her( she loved Arizona). I have an oringinal condition 52 Merc 4 door Custom I drive regularly. But your car , your car is beautiful!

    slow cranking

Hey I also have a 4 door Merc Custom totally original (except for wear parts) that I would post a picture of if I could figure out how. Anyway I thought the same thing until it wouldn't crank. Had it rebuilt and like you said "varoom". Of course I started with the solinoid .....hoping

    slow cranking

I agree with JFranklin. My 1952 Merc in original condition used to crank over so slow. I just figured that how a 6v was. When I had the starter rebuilt it was push the button varoom!
  9. I had to laugh about the ol' lady, Sorry, but thank you , I needed a laff
  10. Cribbing IS the way to go! There's plenty of 4x4s and 6x6s in dumpsters at home building sites or elsewhere. When I get them I just cut em to the appropriate size needed.
  11. Good advice guys. I'm going to test drive Akstraw's chaulk thing. For what it's worth, (and because I didn't know any better) I have been using the tire pressure recomended for the original bias tires on my 1952 Mercury sedan, for the radials now on it, no problem. I recently drove 125mi mostly highway at speeds up to 65mph, again no problemo! The tires have been on the vehicle at least 20,000 mi.
  12. I sent in my yearly sub check in Dec. thus far it has not been cashed and I have not received a mag since Sept. either. I was wondering what was going on and when I looked online I found this thread and I guess I'm not alone. I'm fairly new to the hobby and I love SK. I buy all the back issues I can find!
  13. Hello, I'll tell you what. From personal experience , after new pumps , hoses belts etc. my 52 Merc as still running a little warm. I bought and installed a new radiator cap and she's been fine ever since. Even during this past hot summer! i
  14. I'm thinking on adding an electric fuel pump as a backup. Does any one have a suggestion as to the type or model (size?) I should use?
  15. Mr Carbking, Jon lighten up. You have given me hope. I was beginning to wonder what the hell was going on. I'm not a babe in the woods but I'm pretty new to this older machinery. I knew if I threw this out there all of you who have replied would lead me in the right direction or give me a clue. For that I'm grateful. I'm hoping the rebuild kit has that little clip that holds the needle to the float is in there, that's what I really need (of all things). Mine went missing and I fashioned one up myself out of as thin a wire I had. But I don't know. By the way mine is a "three on the tree" , with overdrive. Pretty funny Rocketraider. I've bought several books and subscribe to Skinned Knuckles but I'm thinking joining AACA is one of the smarter things I've done. What with the experience and knowledge on hand, thank yiu guys
  16. HI Jon, all I can give you is what's on the carb and data sheet I have I hope the pictures helpll I can give you is what's on the carb and Data sheet I have. I hope the pictures help.
  17. That sounds feasible and an electric pump has been suggested. I don't think it's vapor lock and I'm not that savvy. But when it does happen I have to take the bowl cover off and fill it with fuel I keep in the trunk for that purpose. then I'm underway again. After leaving the gas station that last time I had to do that twice after only getting down the road maybe a quarter mile ,if that. The second time I moved the needle a few times and filled the bowl and was able to drive the 3 miles home.
  18. I just got the fuel pump back from being rebuilt but OK , I'll try anything. Thank you Joe
  19. I'm hoping someone out there can give me a solution to this ongoing problem. My fuel bowl goes empty at the most unopportune times. It happened the other day just after I filled up and left the gas station. I have cleaned out or have had rebuilt everything in the fuel system from the gas tank forward. I figured it might be the needle valve since I found it to be stuck a few times. I fashioned a wire clip to the needle to connect it to the float thinking that would solve the problem. I warmed up the vehicle and drove down my driveway to get my mail. It idled there a few minutes and when I got in to go back up the driveway it died. Dry again. I can't find a new needle and seat for the carb. I really need some advice from someone that may have had this experience. I'm lost. The carb is a Holley 1901 model. EAC 9510 E2 The carb was rebuilt last season. Also I can sit and rev the engine as long as I want and that's not a problem either i
