  1. Thats "alot" of body work...LOL.
  2. I don't have a 39 so probably shouldn't comment. But, is there some flat spring clips riveted to the outside of what you are calling the "cup"(reflector receptacle and adjuster) that are catching on the lip in the opening of the headlight bucket that need to be depressed. My 37's are like that. Besides the ones you see in the picture, three in total(courtesy of an ad on e-bay), mine had two clips riveted on the sides that are kind of concealed inside the bucket when the cup is in it. The ones you see in the picture... just gently pry each side of the clip up. There should be a gap in the lip of the bucket if it has those other clips on the cup.
  3. Ya, I see Bob's has them but just thought I'd see what people have to say about it. The electric control/knob or switch probably has to be mounted somewhere else because the one on the dash was just a mechanical lever that actuated the vacuum switch. I suppose I will leave it there if there is still room for it after the electric motor is mounted there.
  4. This picture was taken in the fall of 1986, almost 34 years ago, at the time I didn't realize I bit off more than I could chew! But I'm still chewing and it's getting closer to the finish line. Met some good people in the process.
  5. 1937 Buick Do you guys just install the retro electric windshield wiper motor instead of relying on the original vacuum ones. The car will be converted to 12 volt anyway. I don't even know if my vacuum one works, haven't hooked up vacuum to it yet. Actually never seen one work. I assume at idle or slow speeds the wipers are moving slowly? Any and all comments appreciated. Resurrecting the dead.....
  6. Yup, the grill halves on the left are 38 Buick. I don't know what the grills on the right are from.
  7. Here are some pictures. Hole size is about 2 inches long and 7/8 of an inch wide. Of course it is bigger than that because of the concealed portion of the lens inside the housing. The pictures of the actual lens in the tail light is courtesy of a Buddy of thehandleman. Have to give credit where credit is due! Hope this helps. Tim
  8. Yes dibarlaw, I too have one but thought if there was reasonably priced set of grills for the 37's I may have been interested. Still looking for that clear lens on top of the left tail light on the coupe. I MUST keep telling people that because one of these times I will have told the right person.
  9. The coarse horizontal barred grills in the center of this picture looks to be 38 Buick Is there a 37 Buick grill in that stash. About the same size and shape as the 38 but way more finer bars and without much "detail"
  10. I'm looking for the clear lens on top of the left tail light of a 37 Buick coupe. If someone has one but won't sell it, would you measure the width, length and height of it for me? I suppose I could measure the opening in the tail light and account for it being a bit bigger. Gotta be one out there somewhere. I would like an original as opposed to a "home made" copy. Can someone help me find one of the last items I need to make this a complete restoration? Maybe someone who is customizing a 37 Buick coupe won't need their's anymore. Thanks in advance.
  11. If you have access to a lathe, machine the tapered side of the head to match the diameter of the original. Since that will drop the head further into the threaded hole, make sure there will be enough thread at the shoulder to firmly secure what you are trying to fasten. I did that to some stainless bolts(like in your picture) holding the chrome pieces on the nose of the hood of a 37 Buick that line up with the grills.
  12. I'm looking for the right one. Bell's Buick Parts might have one. I think I need to pick MCHinson's brain again. He seems to have a good resource on part numbers etc. Some people are terrific assets to the hobby and clubs. Thanks everyone!
  13. My coupe didn't have a handle when I got it. But a fellow from Ontario sold me one years ago. It seems too short( from the bottom of the square part to the ends of the threads). The square part will touch the trunk lid and it seems the threaded end should be sticking out of the latch assembly on the inside more. Any help anyone?
  14. Thanks again Matt. I got some stuff from Dave already, but haven't talked to him about this stuff. Too late to call tonight, I will try tomorrow. I should meet him, sounds like a fun guy! He sold me some NOS rear fenders and some other stuff. Shipping to Canada sucks, exchange, taxes, etc really add to the cost of doing business across the border. There is a handful of other things I'm looking for, the parking brake equalizer where all the threaded ends of the cables meet. Headlight reflector retaining clips and the springs(kinda shaped like a "W") that are behind them. I would also maybe like a better reflector holder. Mine are good but one is kinda rusty, it would clean up nicely but would like something better to start with. Also one of my holders has two flat retaining spring clips on the outside of them that really help hold the assembly in the headlight bucket. This has been an over thirty year project that finally got resurrected, life got in the way, but now its time to finish it. Better hurry!
  15. Thanks Matt and Dave. So I guess the answer is "No", not without some sort of modification? I suppose if there are threaded holes in the master cylinder housings that would definitely eliminate the ability to move it from left hand drive to right hand drive and vice-versa. I suspect the bore size might be bigger on the larger cars but if the mounting bolt pattern is the same(for the correct side) will the larger series cars M/C fit the smaller cars? Rebuild services.... I was in contact with a rebuilding shop today that will re-sleeve them, but in brass, or stainless steel for more money. Wouldn't the brass scuff from the pistons(wheel cylinders and master cylinders) moving against it?
  16. Will a master cylinder from the 80-90 series car fit on the 40-60 series cars without any modifications?
  17. Dallasalice, could you please contact me through email or private message
  18. Even had you taken a picture, it may not have been appropriate to post it. But that might be censorship/suppression of the artists creative talent....lol.
  19. This is a good thread. When I cleaned up the stripped body of a 37 McBuick coupe to take away to have the rusted parts replaced I used a high pressure high volume air hose to clean out 82 years of dirt from all the nooks, crannies and pockets of the car. It was at the shop on a rotisserie having some of the floor pan replaced when a shop employee notices something peaking through a rusted out spot on the lower right hand side of the car body (what would be in front of the door and behind the front fender, circled part of the car but on the right side). A closer look revealed two WRA 380 AUTO bullets. Wouldn't those be for a hand gun? To us those are a little more than what we use for varmint control. If only these old cars could talk! I tried doing a little "car genealogy", the guy I bought it from is still alive and he showed me the area, two miles of country road, where he pulled this car home from. He didn't remember the exact farm or the guy's name he bought it from and he was in his teens when he got it. That was alot of years ago. I did a bunch of cold calling to people living along that road and had some interesting conversations but nothing that could help me trace ownership.
  20. Here is a picture of the steering wheel after some rechroming(Custom Chrome Playing, Grafton Ohio) and recasting(JB Donaldson, Phoenix Az.) dallasalice sold me. I have the horn button insert with the additional script of McLaughlin Canada on it for my 37 McBuick Coupe. Thanks everyone.
  21. I am looking for the licence plate illumination lens on a 37 Buick coupe. They are on the top of the left hand tail light. Sedans never had them. Maybe someone who is customizing their car would have a "donor" for an original restoration? Thanks in advance.
  22. Found the pictures through an internet search. Is it safe to assume they're long gone? (1937 McLaughlin Buick hubcaps) Do they fit 40 series? What did you replace them with?
