  2. Actually, the second quote was Paul Dobbins, but thank you for the information
  3. On the 66 VW I can see three things besides the window treatment they could ding you for. How many things can disqualify you?
  4. John, What you just said. "Was taking a ride with my son today in his 53 Chevy". I think you are a lucky guy X2.
  5. If I don't think Herman Hupfield is a bit odd, why should I think you would be? A lot of good stuff from the 30's. Nice Work if You Can Get itπŸ˜‰.
  6. If you go to small English villages even today, you will find the locals might speak that way. We would say something like "It's in the bedroom on the dresser" , and they would say "in bedroom on dresser". Or we would say " you know nothing about that job" and they would say " thou knows nowt about job". We would say close the door and they would say " close door". Doesn't cock my head at all because it's to the point., If you want to really cock your head you should try listening to the original English (before the Norman invasion), or should I say Deutsch.
  7. A friend who passed away some years back made his own cars sans the drivelines. If you wanted a "NEW" car that looked like a 33 Ford or if you wanted him to build you a car of your own design he would build it. A machinist, mechanic, a metal man able to create bodies and his own frames. I would call him a builder. When it came to engines and transmissions rear ends and suspension he would call himself a rebuilder. If he was adding something more that the stock specification such as brakes , springs or electrical he would call this work modifying. I never asked him about putting something together from a box of parts-a kit, but I would assume he would call that assembly work. When I was about five or so my parents bought me a erector set and with that set you were able to assemble things from instructions, but also you could create and use your own imagination, create things on your own with the existing parts and some of your own if you were creative enough. I consider a erector set for kids a step above assembly work. I also think a erector set is a great learning tool for young kids who have just past the basic Lego stage in their development.
  8. Interesting, that song is a blues song ( you can look it up), however it sounds more like Boogie Woogie.
  9. The hot ticket or Chevy guys ( because they were always breaking rear ends ) was using the 1957 Pontiac/ Olds 9.3" complete assy as it's a bolt in and doesn't need to be narrowed. You can use a complete 58 coil spring Pontiac in a 58 coil spring Chevy ( Olds was still leaf). The Pumpkin ( more hot rodder language ) or third member was used by Olds and Pontiac in the "B" body cars till 1964. I narrowed a 60 Pontiac 9.3 for my 64 Tempest funny car and no problem at over 1000HP. Late 50's to early 60's dragsters used the Pontiac/Olds units too.
  10. The car in the lyrics was a flathead ford which doesn't jive with the album cover.
  11. Interesting , just did the lyrics for the beach Boys "Shut Down" It happened on the strip where the road is wide (Ooh, rev it up now) Two cool shorts standin' side by side (Ooh, rev it up now) Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen (Ooh, rev it up now) Revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean (Ooh, rev it up now) Tach it up, tach it up, tach it up Buddy gonna shut you down Declinin' numbers at an even rate (Ooh, rev it up now) At the count of one we both accelerate (Ooh, rev it up now) My Stingray is light the slicks are startin' to spin (Ooh, rev it up now) But the four-thirteen's really diggin' in (Ooh, rev it up now) Gotta be cool now power shift here we go Superstock Dodge is windin' out and low But my fuel injected Stingray's really startin' to go To get the traction I'm ridin' the clutch My pressure plate's burnin' that machine's too much Pedal's to the floor hear the dual quads drink (Ooh, rev it up now) And now the four-thirteen's lead is startin' to shrink (Ooh, rev it up now) He's hot with ram induction but it's understood (Ooh, rev it up now) I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood (Ooh, rev it up now) Buddy going to shut you down [Verse 1] It happened on the strip where the road is wide (Oooo rev it up now) Two cool shorts standing side by side (Oooo rev it up now) Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen (Oooo rev it up now) Revving up our engines and it sounds real mean (Oooo rev it up now) [Chorus] Tach it up, tach it up Buddy going to shut you down [Verse 2] Declining numbers at an even rate (Oooo moving out now) At the count of one we both accelerate (Oooo moving out now) My Stingray is light the slicks are starting to spin (Oooo moving out now) But the four-thirteen's really digging in (Oooo moving out now) Got to be cool now, power shift - here we go [Bridge] Superstock Dart is winding out in low But my fuel injected Stingray's really starting to go To get the traction I'm riding the clutch My pressure plate's burning that machine's too much [Verse 3] Pedal's to the floor hear the dual quads drink (Oooo pump it up now) And now the four-thirteen's lead is starting to shrink (Oooo pump it up now) He's hot with ram induction but it's understood (Oooo pump it up now) I got a fuel injected engine sitting under my hood (Oooo pump it up now) OK guys which source is the right one? One says Dart and one says Dodge???
  12. The song you are referring to is called "GTO" not Lil GTO, probably how Pink Slip Daddy got taken as Big Slip Daddy or vise versa.
  13. When I order parts, back in those days or today for my Pontiacs rear axels and third members I always use the term Safety-T- Track, that also goes if I'm around Pontiac people or just limited slip or posi. My Grandfather would say; Differential mit begrenztem Schlupf
  14. Ever hear the Stones sing "Satisfaction" in concert, or Led Zepplin sing the Lemon song in concert?πŸ™‰
  15. When my Dad ordered our 59 Pontiac Catalina for street / strip - to be run in "A" stock the car came with a 3.08 Safe-T Track for the street and a 3.90 & 4.10 Safe-T Tracks in boxes in the trunk. for drag racing. In 1957 my uncle ordered a Super 88 J-2 Olds with positraction, and in 1956 my other uncle ordered a Safe-T Track in his 1956 factory dual quad Pontiac Colony 2 dr. wagon. We were very much in that whole scene. I got my drag racing license at the age of 14 racing that 59 Catalina.
  16. In 1963 we had to turn in our yellow plates with black letters on our 59 Catalina for the new black plates with yellow letters.
  17. Need to ask Rocketrader or Joe Padavano. Look them up on this site.
  18. What's the purpose of a vaccine? to have antibodies. I already have been tested and have the antibodies. Why are they telling me I need the vaccine? Follow the science.
  19. Are those skirts a factory accessory?
  20. Sounds like we are in agreement and on the same page.
  21. Most of the one's I've used have a rack and pinion guide sleeve next to and goes up with the ram. As soon as the lift goes up the spring loaded lock goes into the rack and in order to get the rack down the lock jam needs to be relieved before pressure comes off. If you loose pressure ( air or Hydraulic) the lift goes down and the spring loaded lock jams the rack stopping it. WEAVER brand is what I used. All hoist that I have worked with in over 60+ years have some type of locking safety devise. It's only when people disable the systems is when a disaster happens. The only time I have seen trouble is with old cylinders and hydraulic tanks that were put directly in the ground and the metal of the above reacts with the earth causing leaks. Whenever my shop had a leak and new rams- tanks are installed the parts are encased in plastic heavy bags and pea gravel is used to fill around them and then concrete is poured in. The plastic bag protects the environment from a contamination from leakage and also keeps the cylinders from contact with the earth which rust them out. Where I lived at the time the state inspected hoist, and heaven forbid they detected a leak on old system without the bag because it becomes a Hazmat issue. My two above ground four post lifts I have at home are electric/hydraulic and have locks on every post.
  22. Oakland/Pontiac V-8; The head mating to the block has two angles.
  23. No, The engine was identical to Pontiac's Parent Oakland except the synchronizer was on the opposite side. The closest to the Pontiac/Oakland was the Viking ( Oldsmobile's child) V-8. The Cadillac V-8 was a true flathead and no relation.
  24. A five window coupe like that with the 251 cu in V-8 @ 85HP = $925.00 BTW that engine is not quite a flat head. The valves are over the piston sideways or horizontal.
