  1. That's easy. My 1964 and 1965 beetles have them!
  2. Make sense to me, bonnet is a French word.
  3. I thought I heard Fred Merts say to Lucy " I just put old Ethyl in the trunk"
  4. Go to the airport where they sell 100 low lead gas.
  5. You can leave trains out of it. Let's go back to the late 1800's early 1900's. Didn't any of you guys build a Crystal set in school??????
  6. Well done! I like auto Tech poetry; you've got a knack!
  7. I know all of that, what are you trying to say? BTW it's Hydra-Matic, not hydromatic. If we are to become technical about this, we should call the first Jetaway what its real name is. Controlled Coupling Hydra-Matic.
  8. Technically Pontiac just called it HydraMatic and Oldsmobile called it Jetaway. Buick did call it Super Turbine 300. Anyroad, in stock form I like it much better than Powerglide, especially the Buick/Olds version with their switch pitch stator, something that Pontiac didn't get.
  9. My friend and neighbor would love your car. He's a 1938 model as well.
  10. THM-300 Two speed. Because the OHC Pontiac six uses the same bellhousing as Pontiac/Olds/Buick. A Powerglide will not bolt up without an adaptor.
  11. Besides the two daily drivers I have six cars. I was alive when all of them were new. Two of them I special ordered. 1962 Pontiac 421 Catalina Post bought in 1991 1963 Pontiac 389 Catalina hardtop coupe bought in 2015 1964 VW Type 113 Deluxe beetle bought in 1973 1965 VW Type 111 "1200"A" Custom" beetle - rare European model. bought in 1968 1969 Pontiac LeMans H-O hardtop coupe - bought new, ordered november 68 delivered late Dec 1968 1976 Oldsmobile Omega brougham- bought new, ordered winter 1976 delivery spring of 1976
  12. Pontiac Super Duty 389 base air cleaner picture can be found in Pete McCarthy's book Pontiac Muscle Car Performance. Page 171. Also Contact Rick Gonser POCI and or Tom Schauch POCI tech advisors. Also 1957 OLDSMOBILE Batwing J-2
  13. When Starfire made its debut in 1954 one of the "FEATURES" that no other car had at the time was "SWEEP CUT FENDER STYLING". A car with this feature should never wear skirts! Anytime you put a skirt on this not only do you negate the designer's intent, but you create a shadow line beneath the rolled edge of the sweep cut.
  14. Made in America is good again; True manufacturing in the U.S. from foundry work to finished product and more. The more includes engineering, product planning, marketing, accessory development, and car and truck design. My NISSAN Frontier and Sentra were both designed and built here. There is more U.S. content in my car and truck than most if not all American makes.
  15. We helped them build their country, industrially and politically and helped them create a democracy which in itself was a feat of accomplishment. Before the war Japan was a very closed society and class orientated. Much more difficult to transform than Germany. They learned from us and ran with it. Then when we tried to slow down their market share with tariffs and the threat of more tariffs, they responded to the U.S. threats by assembling in the U.S. and later into true manufacturing in the U.S. from foundry work to finished product and more. The more includes engineering, product planning, marketing, accessory development, and car and truck design. My NISSAN Frontier and Sentra were both designed and built here. There is more U.S. content in my car and truck than most if not all American makes. The automotive industry is an international industry or world industry these days. Cultivating an interest in your country for companies provides economic benefit for people living there and the company itself plus its local suppliers.
  16. " I cannot generate one iota of enthusiasm for a product built by the people who did their level best to kill me." I wonder if he feels the same way about German cars!
  17. Ford Pinto gas tank. Mustang, Falcon, Mercury Comet, Fairlane intermediate size body. They all had the top of the fuel tank as part of the trunk floor and the same thing could happen to them if hit just right. M-30 Infiniti poor drivetrain??? The drivetrain and suspension was all 300ZX! Lincoln Versailles, yes, a takeoff of Granada (and Granada was a take off of Maverick) so what. Seville was a take off or should I say a starting point from NOVA. Lebaron was a take off from Aspen and Volare, so what. Drive a Versailles and feel a quality ride - especially the 79 with the extended roof and rear quarter. What does Moneywise know about cars????
  18. My Dad. At age 12 came down with juvenile diabetes, if he had come down with it a year earlier, he would have died. Insulin was released to the public the year he came down with it. Had to quit school after the 9th grade to help out the family. Started along with my uncle their own business in 1938 which lasted over 30 years until his death. Started body building and surfing in 1927 which he kept up until about a year before he died. Was a car guy as well and drag racer. Was an avid gardener. Taught my Mom how to surf in 1934-35 my sister in 1939-40 and me. Gave me the love of surfing and the ocean, the appreciation and love of cars, the appreciation and love of gardening and the love of family and doing things together. I loved his sayings like; It's nearly the end of the day, a day of surfing, the sun is going down sinking into the ocean, we are packing up and some of my friends and I are standing around and my dad comes up to us points to the setting sun and says, " Consider the sun going down...it always does you know" and then continues packing up.
  19. Most car collectors have a manual for the car they collect.
  20. Collectible Automobile recently did a feature on a restored 170D. Great car. When you could buy a new 1951 car with 1936 styling!
