  1. Since we are here now, has anyone been stopped, cited or even warned by law enforcement while driving a car with antique or collectors plates? NEVER!
  2. Just depends on the parking situation, like is there an end space and is the spacing wide enough. Also do I have the ability to keep an eye on it.
  3. Just depends on where you live. Where I live its trucks.
  4. The problem with the chrome you see on scale models is the chrome goes sort of transparent. So, if the plated plastic piece before chroming is black or white plastic after a while the chrome becomes translucent. If your models are not in a case the metamorphoses happens quicker. If such plating were on a car exposed to the elements, the change would be even quicker.
  5. I agree, our cars ARE the attraction, so let the general public pay to get in. The annual Prescott Veterans car show was two weeks ago, 45 bucks a car to enter. Think the car owners should get organized! Over 500 cars and at least that many onlookers.
  6. Pontiac and (Oldsmobile fans indirectly) Have a lot to be thankful for to Jim Wangers. Although Jim only worked for Pontiac's add agency, for an outsider Jim had quite a lot to do with the direction Pontiac would take from 1959-1970, and some work into the mid 70's (like CanAm Pontiac's. One of his first task asked by Pontiac General Manager Bunkie Knudsen was to be the link between the factory and dealerships in regard to racing sponsorship and funneling racing parts to these willing dealers. The first Pontiac dealership to do this was Royal Pontiac. Wangers had a close relationship with this dealer and also raced for them after a Royal driver crashed the 1959 Catalina race car. From 1960 to 1963 he drove in S/SS and in 1963 BF/X Note, Frank Rediker a local Olds Mech. Came up the Royal Bobcat treatment (tune up and engine blueprinting). After working at the Olds dealer all day, Rediker would come over to Royal and work at night on the race car. It is interesting to note that Wangers had complete control of Pontiac's Press fleet and had his cars prepped (Royal Bobcatted) to his liking. This by the way produced some famous "Ringer" cars like The Car and Driver 1964 GTO. Pete Estes, John Delorean and Wangers, and Wangers through his friend George Hurst were able to convince top G.M. brass that by using another brand such as "Hurst" shifters on a Pontiac that it would help create sales. Before that it was against G.M. company policy. This act of boldness allowed Pontiac Factory installed Hurst shifters in 1964, Hurst Oldsmobile's etc. This became standard practice in the whole industry later. Years later after all this went away Jim, who now lived in San Diego County always supported the Pontiac clubs all over the country and was always at events. There was never a problem talking to Jim as he was always available to all. A real nice guy, a car guy.
  7. Just remove the offender's response, and don't offend the rest that have taken the time to contribute and done nothing wrong.
  8. The problem is consistency. It's like the parent who lets his children get away with things and then one time unsuspectingly goes off on them for even a lesser offence. That's a sure way to get their respect, a respect they'll remember for a long time. Are we connecting???
  9. How about Death and Taxes, or let's have another go at how we take care of or polishing our sockets. So, it sounds to me like it really is political whether or not something gets kicked off or not. As auburnseeker says, Funny we even have to argue about whether we should preserve history.
  10. I worked for an automobile manufacturer, however some magazines like Collectible Automobile use the term quite a bit.
  11. No NAPZ in this car. A KA24. BTW, NAPZ is a very good engine that has a L series bottom end- and a crossflow head.
  12. Coupes and sedans have what the automotive industry calls a three-box design, with distinct compartments for the engine bay, passengers, and trunk. Coupes and sedans fully enclose the trunk, unlike hatchbacks with open cargo areas. These vehicles also have fixed roofs that aren't removable. one-box (van) two-box (hatchback) three-box (sedan)
  13. Unfortunately, even low mile, good condition cars are below ($1,000-$1500.00- top dollar) what I would consider a good value. Your car sounds tired with that kind of mileage. They were a great three box car in their time. I drove, prepped and worked on quite a few.
  14. That's the way we learned in school. What's the matter with people today???
  15. I forgot to mention. I was so frustrated about this one car that I have, that I painted myself back in 1973, that I caved in and telephoned Meguires helpline. I got one of their reps and he told me about M-80. I told him I had never heard, nor seen it before at the local auto stores. Evidently most stores don't order it or most of their product line. Anyroad, the rep. assured me this M80 would take care of the problem and sent me two bottles of it, no cost. It worked just as he said it would. If you've tried cutting, and it just wouldn't polish deep and has a slight film left over give this stuff a try, but remember a terry cloth that's sprayed with distilled water and pour some M-80 onto, polish two square feet do not let dry and immediately polish / buff with another clean terry cloth. One thing I forgot to mention. Wash your dirty terry cloth towels in an old-style washing machine because the new machines will not get out all of the soap or dirt, so if you reuse them, they will leave soap film on your paint. I wash all my polishing and drying towels in my mom's old 1964 Maytag washer that I have in my shop. FYI never use a fabric softener on your terry towels!
  16. I have used Liquid Ebony and there it sits in the cabinet. I have two black cars and one dark blue. among lighter color cars. Daily drivers get waxed, the other cars never get waxed, just polished. My go to for these cars is 3M Imperial hand glaze, and that does make swirl marks go away. Application is the key, after car is washed and cleaned take a terry cotton cloth and spray distilled water on it to dampen it, add some Imperial hand glaze and apply to only two square feet, then when still wet, a dry terry towel to buff to luster. ALL done by hand. Rt hand with the polishing towel, and left hand with the polishing towel- one then the other and fast! If you have an older paint that you've tried everything to get that last bit of haze of oxidization or haze from Liquid Ebony and can't get it out, get Meguiars M-80 and apply and take off the same way you did with Imperial Hand Glaze with the distilled water on the towel and hand to hand like you did with Imperial hand glaze. Imperial hand glaze has no abrasives, M-80 has a very small amount.
  17. Yes, and make it a Chinese bristle brush, which are designed for oil base paint. Some people will cut them down to make them stiffer, but taping them is better because you can control the stiffness by how you place the tape.
  18. I had a six-volt Delco last 12 years in one of my VW beetles. Its replacements have gone to about three years and one only lasted a year.
  19. It seems some groups will do anything to stop talk radio.
  20. If all four drivers arrive at the intersection at the same time, the drivers who plan on going straight are allowed to proceed through the intersection first. If all four drivers are turning right at the intersection, they may proceed simultaneously.
  21. You really can't ask a question such as this and expect to get a definitive and scientific answer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't know that!
  22. It's not that they don't believe in science. These days they are too busy teaching other things that matter more than science.😟
