  1. So is Mr Pratt still rebuilding the gear boxes?
  2. The dome light switch is shot and I see no way to take it apart. Looks to be one piece contained with the dome insert itself. Anyone making repo's? Quite an odd switch and dome light unit all in one.
  3. Interesting. It looks like it has been on there a good while.
  4. So took the opportunity of near 70 degree weather today and finished sorting out the electric. Have dash lights now and tracked down the brake light issue. Both running lights. So now that is working. Had power happening everywhere it was supposed to except the "new" bulb someone had installed they had filed off the contacts to make it fit in the socket. They filed off to much. So I took a new bulb and did the same filing but just a little at a time so the brake side contact was a little longer to fit the little extra wear on that contact. Tail light contact was sticking out where the brake contact was not. Both sides needed filed some to fit in the push and twist socket depth. Victory ! I hate old car wiring. Gives me a headache. Did find some dash lights in LED so super bright. Now to the dome light. How does that cover pop off?
  5. Yes, I am guessing that is exactly what you just described by the looks of it.
  6. Thank you Paul. Did not know they could be tuned. I am going to remove the passenger side today and change the fluid in that one to match the fluid in the one I just replaced. I am guessing turning the screw out softens the ride by allowing faster movement of fluid? Something else I saw while under there is that there is a "stabilizer" (?) aftermarket shock mounted horizontally on the front assembly. I am wondering if that could part of the cause of some of the lean to one side. Was this a common addition to Franklins back in the day or is it just someones "good idea ?" It looks to be no more then 15 years old.
  7. I never thought of a hacksaw blade ! Excellent idea.. Normally at work we get deliveries that are banded together on pallets but the past week it has been soft metal banding. In the boxes of parts I got were original caps that just had the clips stamped through the side of the cap. Really beat up. I also found the missing wiper motors that look dead but now I can match it to a new one. I just wonder how hard it will be to run a new hose.
  8. Thanks Paul. I was digging to the bottom of one box I had yet to go through that was filled with pistons and wrist pins and low and behold I found a shock and it turned out to be the correct number. Even a tag that said "GOOD" on it. So I changed out the old oil to ISO 36 which I had around and installed. But i have one question. What is the distance supposed to be between the shock arm and the axle mount? The way I found mine seemed to far apart with the shock arm being on a much different plain then the axle mount.
  9. Chrysler is getting used as long as the weather stays like this. Almost 70. It is in rotation with the rest. Today it was the parts chaser as I am having to build new shock links for the 31 Franklin after swapping out rear shocks. What a PITA
  10. Does top go up and down with the switch and what is the condition of it ?
  11. I really did not understand how tough of a carb this is to find until all the fine folks here started steering me in the right direction and away from the wrong carb I have now that needs a total rebuild. My welcome to the world of early Plymouths ! I thought it was going to be a long haul trying to find one as they were such a short lived design and that I would have to settle for a 5 times hand-me-down that would need more then a rebuild. Well what he was able to pull out of the shop and knock the dust off floored me and I just could not pass up this work of art.
  12. Want to thank Rand Broadstreet and Vintage Carburetor LTD for coming through big time with an excellent DRT-08 209s at a more then fair price.
  13. The spring clips clips that hold the hubcaps in the hubs. Is anyone making them? I need 5
  14. With the 4 post lift finally installed I can get to work on required repairs and also do some in-depth investigations. I knew these links were bad but not this bad. These have to be 50 years old and maybe even 70. The bushing just crumbles and the link themselves about worn 1/2 way through. I have one really leaky shock and the other side is not looking good either. Not as bad as this one. Question. On the one that is not leaking yet how are these shocks supposed to behave? It goes up quite easy and when I pull down it is with quite some resistance. The super leaker goes up even easier but returns with as nearly the same resistance as the non leaker. Having never dived into a lever action shock before I have no idea what is normal about them.
  15. I would really enjoy seeing how you do this in a video.
  16. That is the coolest thing I have seen all month !
  17. do me a favor. Look here and tell me which one you think wold make a good repair piece to start with https://www.bearriverconverters.store/collections/1-5-1-1-2-adapters-couplings
  18. Thanks for looking ! So just flare over the 1 1/2 end ?
  19. You could be right. I have become accustomed to what a 31 Franklin can do. Maybe it is just me. There is no shake once your above idle. I am going to drive her a couple more 8 mile runs before starting the needed work to see if i can get good gas to keep clearing things up. Have a couple leads on the correct carb.
  20. What is left of this car is about as close to a Continental as pile of scrap metal. What is left of it that was? A chopped up body? Did he leave ONE original part on the car? I see nothing special here that from 5 feet away to the average person could not be duplicated by a repo fiberglass body. Would someone paint over the Mona Lisa and just say they did it to improve upon it and make it more modern ? Would you write over the back of the Bill Of Rights just because you thought you had wrote the next great work of art? Destroying history just does one thing....
  21. This little broken down carb is not working too bad except for the "no top end power" problem. Distributor with plugged vac advance as well. I had to do the big shuffle today and move cars around so I could get the PA into the small part of the heated garage and get the bigger side open so I can do the conversion to a dual master on my 63 Dodge which is land yacht in length. Had crappy weather most of the day with sleet, rain and cold. Was 35 in the big barn where I had the PA. Yanked out the choke and she fired over on the 3rd turn and didn't stall as I gradually fed her some throttle and less choke. I found that impressive for a car running a screwed up carb and timed by ear. Some vibration at idle . Ran so good I went past the turn into the small garage and off we went for a 4 mile run. The fresh gas and Berrymanns seems to be helping but just a tad too much marvel mystery in the gas. Easy to spot the exhaust leak that way. She did make up the long 1/2 mile hill in 3rd today as well. But when getting near 40 she just seems to fall flat.
  22. Need a good DRT-08 209s carb. Has the vacuum port on accelerator pump side for distributor advance.
  23. I have 3 lever action shocks for sale that came with my 1931 Franklin that I would like to sell to help offset the cost of having my two rebuilt. They most likely will need rebuilt as well. If anyone is interested I can take some pictures and look for numbers.
