  1. It's not a compression fitting. The man at the parts store said to use Teflon tape which I did but still have tiny soap bubbles. My daughter-in-laws uncle is an appliance repairman. I'll ask him what he might reccomend.Thanks.
  2. This probably isn't the best place to post but it is on my son's 69 v.w. Anyway I got new brass air shock fittings today and I thought that would solve my air leak since the old ones were plastic. They came with a red sealant on the threads and I tightened it down and squirted it with soapy water and it bubbled so I removed it and used Teflon tape, still leaked,I guess tomorrow I'll try pipe thread paste.I read blue lock tite might work.Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
  3. Is there a coating or paint that's resistant to brake fluid? It's on the panel under the m/c on a v.w.Thanks.
  4. Could probably sale it for 100K? I wonder if it has a mast and a rudder?
  5. Thanks Ransom! The problem is how to install a vacuum gauge.I've got a mechanical advance distributor and there are no vacuum ports on my carburetors. That sucks, punn intended. At least now I don't feel bad about not setting it to factory specs. if needed.
  6. I timed my engine without a timing light to where it would start easily and not run on after shut down with fairly good acceleration I thought. When however I time it with a timing light to where it should be,it's very difficult to start like maybe the starter can't handle the compression. It's a built up 1833? motor with a mild cam, larger heads, and dual carbs.not sure of all the specs. What dose it hurt to run the engine at where it likes to start as long as there's no overheating or pinging or backfiring? I found a retired v.w.mechanic that's willing to help me out and do a compression check and other things. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
  7. I think Hollywood in the 70s helped get people interested with such movies as China Town,The Sting,Bonnie and Clyde and others
  8. Hi, The brake/tail light bulbs in my Karmen Ghia fit very loose in the housing they work if I twist them just to find a good spot. It's almost like they're just a little too narow. Is there a way to tighten up the fit? I thought of adding solder around the base of the bulbs or shims on the sides? I think I have the right bulbs. I'm trying to get the brake lights to work but I think the switch are also bad.
  9. My son's Ghia I'm working on has no brake lights. My question is the brake light switchs on the m/c only one for now is connected(I read on a forum only one is required) but with the key on its getting power to both sides of the switch.Rodent matter if the brakes are applied or not.The bulbs and fuses are good. The switches are a bear to get to without pulling the gas tank.I was thinking of installing a universal type switch behind the brake pedal. Dose the switch sound like it's bad and has anyone installed an after market switch with any luck? Thanks,Greg.
  10. Hi,I wish you were closer.I'm trying to help my son on his 69 Karman Ghia his brake lights and turn signals are inop. Wiring in general is a mess but at least it runs and looks great.Greg
  11. It seems like it's almost impossible to find anyone willing to help with old car repairs from their garage or yours, just to help out, listen to good tunes, drink beer or (or whatever)or just hang out. I think they were more plentiful in the seventies. Easier to make buds.
  12. On TMC I'm watching an old Cary Grant movie "monkey bussiness", lots of old cars and a 51 Ford at a dealer for 750 bucks.
  13. I bought a wheel at Hershey and as soon as I got back home I dropped it off at the powder coated and still haven't gotten it back yet! I hope by Christmas since its a present. They said hopefully this week but this week's come and gone.
  14. I don't believe heat is the issue.I'll recheck the timing.Thanks
  15. Thanks, but I have dual carburetors with no choke or electrical wires.
  16. Like the title says. It's best described as a comedians rim shot after a one liner. It's not really running on.Could it be timing? Thanks
  17. Dose the fuel pump have the glass bowl type filter? My 35 has that plus another glass bowl type before the carb.and an in line filter by the gas tank. Always run non ethanol gas.So far so good. I installed a new accelerator pump a year ago and rebuilt my fuel pump.Runs good now. Mines a 41 series sedan, what's your friends?
  18. I wonder what the front seat is like under that cover.I think it would look better with a white top.
  19. A 69 Karmen Ghia of my son's with an air suspension, trying to get the leaks fixed and then on to the electrical stuff.
  20. I know it's been said before but if I had more storage and if it were closer I might dip into my I.R.A. I don't think I'd restore it,just get it running.I wonder if there's a front seat cushion?Seems like all the cool cars are on Facebook which I'm not a member.
