  1. I visited an old friend yesterday. We went to lunch in a car I sold him for $500 in 1968. It's a '57 Porsche and its looking a little shabby these days...the $250 paint job he got in the late 70's isn't holding up well. He told me he doesn't like to dive it as much these days because it's become so valuable (+/- $100K). It occurred to me that this increase in value really is having a negative impact on his ownership. He was thinking about getting it painted but I told him it's a bad idea because a nice paint job on a 356 these days is going to be north of ten grand and then he REALLY won't want to drive it. I think we should feel fortunate if our cars don't appreciate.
  2. I was behind an autonomous vehicle in San Francisco last year. It was a 2 lane street and a delivery truck was blocking our lane. Every time the autonomous car tried to go around, it saw another car coming the other way and pulled back. I couldn't assert itself. We did a U and took another street.
  3. I'm often more fearless than I should be, but cheap RR scares me. I note that "a collector" looked at it but wasn't interested. https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/d/issaquah-1934-rolls-royce-saloon/7607965681.html 1934 Rolls-RoyceWas told by a collector that it was a 25-30 Saloon but that's all we know. Sorry but don't have a lot of information as was purchased by father-in-law who has passed. email: 66753d2b2ff4362bb4dc618a2a2f09b1@sale.craigslist.org
  4. Lots of complaints on this forum (some justified) about colors of 30's cars, but I think this car would look a lot better in some color scheme other than black.
  5. Says Sold! Posted on craigslist about a month ago for a $6K
  6. The ad says" "LAST CHANCE"! If not traded or sold by April, 30, car will no longer be available. Very solid old Chrysler with stock drive train. Bill of sale, no title. Looking for 30's to Mid 50's Hot Rod or Rat Rod pickup project, or possibly a coupe or sedan, preferably Mopar. " What does that mean? Goes to the crusher May 1st? Price seems high given condition but it would be a fun car...all it needs is time and money.
  7. More evidence for my theory that 80% of the surviving cars are hidden from view and only appear when the estate is settled.
  8. Located in Sonora, CA...probably left by a discouraged gold miner.
  9. this was posed about a week ago, but I searched this forum, and it doesn't seem to have been discussed. Lots more copy in the ad.... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1930-marmon-big-eight-sedan-136-wheelbase-315-cid-125-hp.1289076/#post-14825180 This 1930 Marmon is one of five known sedans to survive. It is a well equipped car with the very desirable wire wheels, dual sidemounts with chrome covers and a rear luggage rack. The car is a very original car that was painted probably in the 1980s but has never taken apart. The paint is in great condition. The grey cloth interior is original and in excellent condition. The car is well known and has been pictured in the famous book "The Marmon Heritage" by George Phillip and Stacey Hanley. The current owner purchased the car in the early 2000s and has driven the car regularly. It has been maintained by a well known restorer. The car is very solid and tight with the doors open and close with authority. Mechanically, the car is seriously strong and goes down the road with passion and strength. It shifts easily and brakes excellent. The price is 44,500.00 and is located Indianapolis, Indiana.Contact me at: 734-730-4274 or email: motoringicons@hotmail.com
  10. Would you guess earlier or later. Seems like there's just a couple of years when Olds didn't make a 4cyl. the only thing I know about them is that 3 port head was used by hot rodders on both Chevys and (with an adapter) Fords.
  11. An interesting car! The source I have doesn't list a a 4 cylinder for 1918. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/chandler-heights-1918-oldsmobile/7605528055.html Rare 1918 Oldsmobile convertible. Been in storage over 35 years. Runs good all original except electric fuel pump. Will need tires to be road worthy. 15K Text: (480) 599-5546
  12. Looks like a very nice example! First year for the 6. https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/d/pahrump-1929-chevy-original/7606391578.html 1929 Chevy 2Dr Coach All Original. 13. Henry was his own worst enemy. He wouldn't allow the "T" to be updated over it's long production period and although the "A" was modern, Ford was always trailing the other makes in features. Henry was a genius in 1908, but over time he became a retched old crack pot. Makes me think of several modern CEOs....
  14. I'm pretty sure this has been for sale for a while.....(no wonder)
  15. Colors are such a matter of fashion! 5 years ago if you bought a new car, there were many shades of silver to chose from. Today its' non metallic earth tones!
  16. I don't mean to run down the Durant Club, which I'm sure is VERY helpful to members. It's just not going have a local chapter like Buck or Ford.
  17. Nice looking car! $19,500 is on the high side but as they say "It only takes one buyer". it also says it's a PA which makes me think it's actually a late '31.
  18. Asking $8K. I know Franklin had a V12, but not in '29. Is that nomenclature correct for this car?
  19. Difficult to find sales people with product knowledge. About 40 years ago I sold my business and took a job as a salesperson because it's a profession where the only real requirement is some level of people skills and the ability to get out of bed in the morning. Even those two areas were often lacking in others....
  20. I don't know about the price but it sure looks very nice example! https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/palm-desert-1951-lincoln-convertible/7604476316.html 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertible.1 of 857 produced, 336.7 CID flathead V8, power windows.Come look and make offers in person. email: 08afa22b4a483daeb52ee540a3a4ff79@sale.craigslist.org
  21. Perfect for the growing family! More copy and pics in the ad... https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/d/riverside-1936-gillig-chevy-bus/7604548547.html Purchased from Warner Bros. I was told that it has been in a dozen movies since 1936. Complete new brake system ($3200), all new tempered glass and seals, all new fluids, 6 new tires/tubes/flaps, complete wiring with light kit, all new clutch and flywheel, installed upgraded 250 inline 6 with aluminum radiator/electric fan. Installed all seating, new starter with upgraded starter motor. She runs, drives and shifts as she did in 1936. Everything was done to keep her looking old and tired but cool. I am still working on front doors (rust at bottom and broken glass) and rear doors (making them taller doors) (865) 403-9700 VIDEOS: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/b2chpQIeFbo
  22. I've certainly seen worse...the big question mark is going to be wood in the body. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/woodland-1929-chevy-door-sedan/7604466058.html New tires and tubes, it runs but is not drivable as the clutch is stuck to the flywheel. Unable to get to this project and need to get it out of the storage location. Asking for $5500 or best reasonable offer email: fe64966a14ab3353b979875b826f5e86@sale.craigslist.org
  23. I also hope someone takes this on, but $10K is a lot for a car that needs everything and has little support in the way of parts or clubs.
  24. If I were selling a car that ran, I wouldn't show it on a trailer. One thing I really enjoy about this forum is that it gives an opportunity to learn about other cars. I only knew what R.E.O. stood for and now I know that this car has rear wheel external contacting brakes and an F head engine rated at 50hp. Also, a similar car was sold at auction not long ago for $20K.
