  1. Now that I have your attention! - - - - - Its not a car, but a 1952 Model" A" MACK TRUCK. I am helping my friend, TOM, on this project. The end result will be a 21 foot rollback car hauler with sleeper. Our donor vehicles are a 700 series Ford and a Gulfstream Motorhome . ANYONE INTERESTED IN THIS? If so I'll start a series of posts as we progress. (Tom will be an AACA member before the job is completed!!!! After all, I said I was helping him.) March 23: FORGET ABOUT THE ABOVE! I just learned that Tom is going to create a modified vehicle: 500 HP with Big chrome wheels with low profile tires in front and twin tires on the rear' I should have known better. Tom has : 1930 Ford Panel truck 1934 Ford 3 window cpe. 1934 Ford Roadster 1934 Ford Tudor This project does not belong on our AACA forums 1936 Ford Pickup 1940 Ford Convertible 1937 Ford 11/2 ton Truck These are all modified! AS ever, Willie
  2. TERRY: Here is the part you missed. If you can't expand and read ,let me know and I will bring you the Feb. 1969 issue to the spring meet at Huntington, W. Va. " Gotta lookout for the youngsters in AACA"
  3. HERSHY WAS NEVER THIS BAD. HOW MANY REMEMBER HURRICANE AGNES' TWO VISITS TO PA. WITHIN A WEEK IN 1972? THIS IS THE BUMPER STICKER THEY GAVE TO THE PARTICIPANTS. I FRAMED MINE, it meant more than the trophy! HOW MANY DFers REMEMBER? Hope to see you in Huntington, WV in May in class 19A.
  4. Thanks to all who commented on this post. I have enjoyed all the replies but I think it's time to fess up. The engine is mounted on a wagon that has a laminated floor. A groove was cut in the laminate to conceal the wiring from a box between the back wheels that contains a battery and a model T coil . An identification plate conceals the box. Am attaching photo of it with the cover removed. You will probably see another mystery here in the condenser being mounted on the wood coil box. Yes, I have seen it run. With 95 cubic inches and 140 pounds of flywheel you only forget to retard the spark to start it ONCE. It was originally used to pump gasoline from a railroad tank car to a storage tank up on the hillside. It was then gravity fed to the loading docks and into the delivery trucks .They had two of these engines which ran the pumps with chain drive; similar to a timing chain and one and a half inches wide. I assume they never sparked! ENJOY!! Can't wait for the spring meet in WV
  5. A 4 inch grinder with a stripper wheel from Walmart does pretty good.
  6. Judging by the weight of the rear seat cushion in my 1931 LaSalle 5 pass cpe they must have priced them by their weight.
  7. Many years ago I had a dear friend who was a recognized authority on coachbuilt car bodies and their proper nomenclature. He said the 5 passenger coupe body that had the hat box behind the drivers seat( where they carried their top hats ) was the true and original Victoria.
  8. A COUPLE YEARS AGO A FRIEND BOUGHT A 1941 WWII DODGE WEAPONS CARRIER THAT SOMEONE HAD INSTALLED A DUAL INTAKE MANIFOLD ON WITH 2 FORD 2BBL CARBS THEY WERE THE BIGGEST MESS I HAD EVER SEEN. I SOON FOUND OUT WHY THE SELLER WANTED TO PUT IT ON OUR TRAILER WHILE SLIPPING THE CLUTCH BIG TIME. WE FOUND A SUPPLIER OF PARTS FOR MILITARY EQUIPMENT WHO SUPPLIED US WITH THE PRETTIEST SET SETUP I EVER SAW. IT USED 2 WEBER CARBS MOUNTED WITH A THROTTLE SHAFT POINTING FRONT TO REAR. IT RAN THRU THE MANIFOLD OUTBOARD OF THE CARB BASE WITH LINKS TO THE THROTTLE ARMS. iT ALSO INCLUDED THE LINKAGE TO THE PEDAL. It was Bolt it on , adjust idle ;out the door ( HIS WIFE LOVES TO DRIVE IT,11 yr old also ) Its a tandem--also has a single axle GOOD LUCK if you want the suppliers name ,etc let me know
  9. JACK M I had a customer a few years ago with a Dodge truck , 8 cyls I hooked it up on my Sun scope and when the speed increased it roughed up something awful and the scope suddenly went to a 16 cylinder waveform. The cause: The alternator was "throwing" voltage spikes onto the primary and causing the trigger diode in the electronic ignition module to fire the coil ! A reman alternator cured the problem. After 74 years in auto repair shop you would think I had seen it all! NO WAY I'm anxious to see what tomorrow brings. MAYBE A SPACESHIP!
  10. Sounds like you are igniting the incoming fuel mixture while the intake valve is still open. Spark plug heat range ( too hot) or glowing carbon deposit in combustion chamber can cause your problem I'm assuming its 251 cid , not cc! Here is an old quote: All driveability problems seem like carburetor problems but, that should be the last place to go to!
  11. He gave his mom a pad and told her to write the names of 50 of her friends to invite------- she gave it back the next day with 88 names I think that was a good test of her memory. Can you do that? Old folks are lots of fun! I know because I am one!
  12. AFTER A 10 YEAR ABSENCE, GRANDMA GOT HER BELOVED HUDSON BACK AT HER 90th BIRTHDAY PARTY THANKS TO HER SON. He had to sneak it home after dark! (Said it made him feel like a 16 year old again)
  13. Jon; I think it comes closer to being throttle body fuel injection.( Fuel nozzle and a throttle valve ! ) Thanks for the comments on this post. I expected as such when posted it. as ever, Willie W.
  14. Has anyone had any experience with a Fish carburetor? ( that was the brand name ! ) I happen to have one! Really odd construction.
  15. ANNIE: You won't be on Sandstone Mtn. It's on I-64 east of Beckley. I drive it a lot. Our W.Va. Whitewater AACA Region usually meets there for local tours. (gives us a "downhill start! ) It's a beautiful drive
  16. Be sure your mechanic replaces the short piece of rubber fuel line in front of the carburetor. It is a fire hazard when it ages!
  17. My manual valve was my leak. I by-passed it.
  18. I assume it is the absence of the little oval window in the sail panel and putting an emblem in its place that says "collector series". Another way to make the buyer think he is getting something special. After all the whole bit is to increase sales.
  19. My other car has pretty shock absorbing bumpers and lots of wood trimmed with silver. I like them all the way were made.
  20. My 1979 Lincoln Collector Series Town Car Has 2 0ptions: CB Radio and THERMOMETER in L door mirror
  21. The last American cars that used points had a condenser with the following specs: GM .18 to.23 mfd Ford .21 to .25 mfd Mopar .25 to .28 mfd My advice: if it fits-use it! There isn't that much difference. As for being concerned about 6 or 12 volt ( FORGET IT !) A condenser cannot pass D C voltage, only A C.( Yes: it is present in the coil !)
  22. You can reach Mark at 814-934-2544 or loulou4ul@aol.com
  23. Here is 2 condensers that have been having a conversation since 1952. They are on a Delco distributor that has a 3 lobe cam and dual points! I'm still running #1 while #2 gets a free ride---the speedo is showing 22000 for the THIRD time! Bought the car in 1968 . Have never replaced the points. Thanks to a very sociable condenser? ENJOY
