  1. Do this , as Tom said small taps on horns ok, but then refit horns , then only connect one horn wire at a time, you will see a small adjustment screw--bolt-- see my photo-- turn that in with pliers about half a turn clockwise first, then try that horn to see if it goes or louder ,--if no , go another half turn then try again---,if it does not work --do the opposite, adjust back to wear it was originally, then turn anti clock wise , doing this you will probably get then to work. Then do the same with the other horn. Its worked for me many times----just got one of my factory large trumpet horns working on my 64 Electra.
  2. Nick57---this is what i would do buy a can of brake clean, and fully clean all around all sides, turn your steering around untill all sides are thoroughly cl;ean---then check to see and make ure there is know play or wear there,---i think you will find it is still in good --ok--condition--if so leave it--will only create more problems repairing it.
  3. Thanks you both for explaining that,----sorry for being so dumb, and i agree with Ed here re numbers, not like example like Chevrolet ,---there numbers were lower ,and usually more prominent in orange. and corvettes chassis number was not that easy to sight , drivers side just behind rear wheel on top and next to chassis bolt. ask me how i know because i have owned 3 early corvettes as well.
  4. Pat--you will have to explain to me i caught understand your statement ,that 454 non GS Rivieras were built in 1965, with super wildcat engine,---i have owned 11 Buicks all years--and i know Buick never built a 454,in 1965 sorry i can not reply to you as i am leaving now for a 7 hour trip away---regards.--Wayne.
  5. Thank you Jason for listing this for me, as i thought it would be of interest to most Riviera owners. I will start by saying that although most think that 65 GS are selling for more than you are used to,---think again--- you know how great and terrific these great classics are like, perhaps they are about 10 years late in there price increases, look at other makes and models, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Cadillacs, and others, have been above Buick in most cases for years depending on models ---,and i know that a 65 Riviera takes a lot to beat for all aspects of driving. I notice that Schmitt statement says from a prominent southern CA collection, and actual 38000mile example, would say that it probably is a genuine GS example, because they have a very good reputation ,and would not take a risk in making those statements. The first item i always look at first to do with restorations is exterior ,and the 35 th photo from the top shows a close up of a wheel with the incorrect black shiny inner painting, then it just goes on and on from there, including the engine bay, Well a very nice car -----and which the next owner wonderful motoring.- from Buick.
  6. Would a moderator or other more experience member mind pasting this 38000 miles,$100.000 example on to our forum here,---i dont know how to .many thanks to member for doing this, Reason is , although a very nice example,---lots of small items in correctly restored or not correct.
  7. Hello Ocotillo Bandit, when tight ening your oil filter, do as tight as you can by hand then use a oil pump pliers or similiar tool and turn approx 1/2 a turn more with pliers.---30 weight is fine but should be using a multi grade oil weight example 10-30 or 15-30 this hells lube your engine from cold start. Also most--- CRITICAL--- is before you store your car-----change the engine oil before storing it away for winter. after changing oil, run it until gets to normal running temp, then store it away for winter. This also helps your engine when re starting it after the winter next year, . Storing an engine with old engine oil in car is very bad for the inside of engine because of axcidic build up in cylinder walls and bearings.
  8. I went for drive around my local city---and decided to park in front of the most expensive hotel here, to get a photo opp of my 64 Electra----with the Hotel Rolls Royce in the back ground, they were probably not that happy , so i did not hang around there very long.
  9. If you would really like to own it again Pete,----im with Doug on this decision.
  10. Would be interested in finding out whos 67 was used in this production T shirt, as i still get comments to this day when i wear it here in Australia.---.
  11. I am getting old--found this -- may help.
  12. Yes it is the exact same as my original 1964 Electra convertible---. i can send a photo if required.
  13. Last one i purchased was from Cars a few years ago, for a 69 skylark ,---Old Buick Parts---and it was very good , they have regular 32 ounce, or heavy duty 38 ounce, for memory the the price was very fare for the quality, and as NTX5467 says make sure you get a pro that knows what he is doing is critical to a good finish. I need one my self, for my 64 Electra ,but the shipping is very bad and expensive right now i will wait until i come over to US in about 1 or 2 years to a National and bring one back with me.-- regards.--- PS i can hardly see through my rear window.
  14. I found these photos i took when i went to Buick national in year 2000 Virginia ,i am sorry as i did not have Digital camera then , so the photos are are not very good , but i remember well because these two cars were fantastic especially that i had never seen these before. First is the fantastic Buick Blackhawk special hand built by Buick ,and powered by 1970 455ci Buick type 111 V8, I thick for memory was sold about 2010 for over $500.000 at Barrett Jackson. Second was the fabulous Buick Lacrosse concept built just before that meet, for memory it had voice recognition for all switches inside,,and had a fastback roof line .that also was removable,--photo of my wife and myself. i am not sure what or of its wearabouts these days--- but two incredible historical Buicks. Hope the GM staff member does not mind me showing him in the second photo. Thank you.---GM.
  15. Thought i would air my views on this Riviera,--first thing to always check is the sellers feedback--at 85% that is one of the lowest on ebay for the amount of sales they make,--i actually got very interested in another classic they had about 9 months ago--but i did not go any further with it,---that being said as Seafoam 65 says it is a very nice example, and being a clone one can get away with items that are not correct, like engine, the wheels like Seafoam 65 said, but there quite a few smaller items i can sea that are incorrect, and i suspect that all mechanics transmission, engine, fuel related, would really have to be checked out. Me personally would never buy this car ,because im not a green person--i dont mind the exterior green, but not all green inside as well.
  16. Tim---i can get you your posi for quite a bit less,---if really required, regards-----Wayne.
  17. Agree with Chris--start with basics--especially with points and condenser , many times i have found that previous supposedly good mechanics have changed electronics but not correct. Always do electrics first then go to fuel and other items. .What happens alot is the points can actually close up because of no lube on distributor cam over years, and end up with a gap of from 5 to 8 thou, this causes alot of problems as it developes pits and holes in points , so condenser can not do its job correctly--always change both points and condenser. Like John said check spark plug wires, and advance system on distributer and vacuums.
  18. Hi Rivnut---i had another close look at my largest trumpet horn--and found this marking on it.--12v---897
  19. Go check the antenna connections--similiar thing happened to me when i received it from US, even though the antenna was connected , i un hooked it, tighten up the base bolt as it was loose , connected antenna up again, and radio went---could not believe it,----then i had to tune it in you probably know how to,---but it is the small screw in behind the radio knob on right side, with antenna all the way up.----regards.
  20. You will be really proud of your new classic, i know your comment when driving a 430ci, they are great to drive, you will have to keep an eye out for a passenger side mirror, i fitted one to my 64 Electra convertible----a lot easy to get in and out of garage now. and when passing, especially here in Australia on the other side of the road ,being all other cars right hand drive.---Happy Motoring 60s Buick Fan--.
  21. Lancemb Just incase this helps, from my --standard catalog of Buick--1903--2000 by Ron Kowalke. perhaps one of these in convenience options.---regards.---hope its readable.
  22. Kevrev is correct, but here is a tip, when using the contact spray cement, use masking tape all around like you are going to paint, ---but give it 2 coats of spray about 25 30 minutes between coats, it will work great.----regards.
  23. Love that photograph---Doug---of your 67 Buick classic.
