Is it just me, or does the hood line look as if its rising as it moves forward and the radiator shell look too large in scale?

I hoped another view of this Duesenberg J sport sedan by Derham would turn up, its pictured in Roe, page 171. Note, it had removable B-pillar like a convertible sedan, making it conceptually a four door hardtop.

Indeed! L-M dealers were fortune to have a Mercury which was finally more than a dolled-up Ford, though the lack of a real 1950-'51 Monterey hardtop built off the convertible body was inexcusable. As for Lincoln, it was up against it with the hot OHV Cadillac and Hemi Imperial; an F-8 truck-sourced flathead wasn't going to cut it anymore. In the Cosmopolitan's defense, it had one of the most elegant sedan or coupe greenhouse treatments of any at the time short of the hardtops.

The 1950-'51 Ford Crestliners were a paint and trim doll-up of the standard two door sedan in an effort to compete with the new-for-1950 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop. In addition to the sweep-panel trim and contrasting paint, the vinyl-padded top, the interiors were done in the convertible style. They proved fairly popular, so held over even when the '51 Victoria hardtop arrived. FoMoCo outfitted Mercury with the Monterey, Lincoln with the Lido and Lincoln Cosmopolitan with the Capri done the same way to compete with GM and Mopar hardtops.

Sad truth is he should part it out, sell the items that are unique to the '58 Packard sedan, hardtop and station wagon such as the front clip, instrument panel, interior trim, fins, side trim, taillights. Only '58 Packard Hawk came standard with the supercharger. Not unlikely this car has an extremely rusty frame which is beyond a feasible restoration.

That poor old chestnut has been for sale on and off for most of two decades, it just gets more weathered every time the advertisement appears. Pretty much a parts car.

Good for them, they even got the convertible top rear window correct! The wrap-around plastic window was correct for the 1957-'60 model years, frequently disappeared when the top was replaced with an aftermarket top.

Yes, It seems quite reasonably priced for an entry-level collector car. The proviso is rust damage, which 1957-'58 Mercurys suffered from rather badly, so interested persons should inspect it over carefully first to determine what condition those lower body areas are in.
