  3. Absolute! Quoting one of the great lines from the M.A.S.H. television show, to say this Rolls-Royce Brewster has "Nice Lines" is like saying "Ava Gardner had nice features"!
  4. A.J. Interesting enough the body lines and overall design idiom are more consistent with the Henley roadster. I tend to consider this masterpiece design as a four door Henley sport sedan...but that just my uncultured outlook. Name it "Special Newmarket" or whatever, its easily Brewster's absolute best overall design.

  10. This is a great tutorial! Maybe not quite the process Hudson employed at the factory to build convertibles but also maybe not too far different either. Thanks for taking us along, its fascinating!
  11. Fran Roxas was famous for creating those additional LeBaron Sport Phaetons, did he also build the LeBaron boat-tail roadsters as well?
  12. Not to be ghoulish, more likely will be leaving these in his estate...
  13. If this was a 'town & country' three passenger coupe Plymouth, buyers would be all over it. The builder should have looked for a convertible to do this woody treatment on rather than the prosaic two door sedan.

  16. I did too, but the door jams are also maroon, Earl Shieb color changes never include the door jams. A gray or olive paint may have been standard for all those Mopar bodies. Taking the additional time and materials to color match the trunk lid underside and trunk interior may have been deemed not worth the expense. Will have to remember to check other original Mopars to confirm that was the case.
  17. "I would guess most 1930's-40's convertibles would share a lot in common with coupes of the same make." Indeed they did, in fact, looking over various pre-war convertibles in weathered states of condition, the amount of handwork to change the coupe stampings into the convertible was obvious. This was especially true for lower production models and independent makes. Pre-war Hudsons especially exhibited evidence of the handwork. Sometimes the detail lead work didn't quite match side for side. But, convertibles were generally the lowest production models and since labor was cheap, it made little sense to invest in costly tooling dies for the volume use they might get.

  20. For Sale: 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV - $5,375 - Jackson, MS - Still available, same price, May 2021 - see new link below: 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV - cars & trucks - by owner -... (craigslist.org) The Mark IV has a 460 V8 engine with an automatic transmission. The car is in good running condition and but could use a tune up. Tires have about 4k miles on them. There is no broken or cracked glass. It has under 39k miles according to the service and registration records that received with the car when I purchased it approximately 13 years ago. At that time, it only had 32k miles on it. The Mark IV has a VA title and license plate. The gold color has begun to fade from sitting in the sunlight. It has a little rust in the trunk lid. I purchased the car in VA while serving in the military there several years ago. I have since moved to MS. I am advertising the car in Arkansas because I have sold cars in that part of the country. If you see this ad, the car is still for sale. I do not need help selling this car Contact: (910) 3-3-six-3-0-0-five Copy and paste in your email: d0190258bf193f6299a1ca4a45082f36@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV.

  22. These pictures of how the convertible body was built are very instructive. The build details look very similar to other 1930's-'40's convertibles I used to see in junkyards decades ago. By the 1960's-'70's, there were still convertibles in those yards with many sedans but because the tops weathered and failed, the interiors deteriorated very quickly exposing the structural parts. Although most were Big Three convertibles, the bracing and mountings look very similar, probably just standard industry practice.
  23. A.J.: Iirc, they also had cowls and cast hardware available for purchase separately to do just as you say, add them to the phaeton. Of course, no one would be so unscrupulous to do that to bump up the value of their car...would they? Perish the thought!
  24. Does anyone recall the source of those dual-cowl bodies that used to set up at Hershey? I recall seeing those and roadsters as bare shells in one of the fields in the 1990's.
