  4. For Sale: 1951 Hudson Commodore Coupe - project - $1 (make offer) - Swanzey, NH 1951 Hudson Commodore Coupe project - cars & trucks - by owner -... (craigslist.org) 1951 Hudson Commodore coupe. This is a very straight, solid, rust free car with what looks like one repaint (color change from original black to maroon) at least 30 years ago. It’s still a pretty decent “20-footer”. As with most step-down Hudsons there are signs of imperfect damage repair in the lower side panels (dents not rust). The molding separating the body and rocker panels has been replaced with "70s or 80s side molding (correct molding is now available). The bumpers, grill, parking lights, hood and fender ornaments, side “Commodore” badges and “pork chops”, trunk ornaments and tail lights have recently been re-chromed. The right rear bumper guard is missing. The stainless trim is very good other than the rocker moldings which need minor straitening and polishing. NOS side window visors, door handle guards and gas door guard were added by the previous owner. The glass is all in good condition and the windows work properly. There are areas on the lower edges of the windshield and rear window that have been sealed with silicone. The car has not been wet since it arrived 18 months ago so I do not know if they leak. Leak or not it looks bad and will need new seals (which are available). The interior is custom, about the same vintage as the paint and in pretty good condition. The dash and window trim are painted to match the exterior. The interior chrome is in good condition. The radio and heater are not working. The driver and passenger foot wells have been replaced (probably when the car was painted) and is a fairly neat job. The balance of the floor (including the trunk) is very good. The unibody structure is very solid and rust free (only minor surface rust) and shows no sign of accident damage. The wheels, trim rings and hubcaps are in good condition. The tires are JUNK.The gas tank seems solid (no leaks) and the fuel is clean. The steel line looks “tender” but does not leak. When the car arrived, I took it for a test drive. It started easily and ran smooth. The transmission shifted properly. The back half of the exhaust system is fairly new with a Magna-Flow muffler and fake “duals”.Steering and suspension worked properly (no sign of steering or suspension looseness or play) on a pretty rough road. The brakes would not stop the car (200 feet to stop from 25 MPH). It had 3 frozen wheel cylinders, completely worn-out brake shoes and the lines cracked at the first touch of a wrench. The inner front fenders, hood and the headlight buckets have been removed to do the front brake lines, 12-volt conversion and the water pump.I’ve come to the conclusion that at almost 82 I’m not quite up to the job of finishing it.The following parts are included with the car:1 pair of Excellent windshield wiper bezels (originals are pitted)New water pump (not rebuilt)New 12-volt alternator & regulatorPertronix ignitionNew high output coil4 New shocksModified Jeep sway bar (1 1/8” vs. ¾” stock)2 sets of NOS Fenton front end lowering blocks2 sets of lower, inner “A” frame pivots2 sets of lower, outer “A” frame pivots2 sets of upper, inner “A” frame pivots2 sets of front wheel seals, brake hardware kits, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hoses and freshly turned drumsMaster cylinderStop light switch (can be used with silicone fluid)Complete “In Line Tube” brake line kit (M/C to rear installed)3 New Universal JointsNew carrier bearingBushings to convert original carrier bearing to “un-bakeable”The following new parts have been installedRear brake hoseRear wheel cylinders, brake hardware, brake shoes, axle seals and freshly turned drumsRear shocks3” rear lowering blocksMany extra partsAsk questions, come and see it (its on a lift in a well-lighted garage) make offer. 6. Here's a better look, reducing the high contrast shows more of the details, then gray-scaled it.
  7. He will have a revelation when he tries to run the A/C that's not there. No compressor, air scoops on the quarter panels, clear plastic tube ducts running out of the package shelf to the headliner registers. Otherwise, looks like a nice example.

  9. From the Standard Catalog of American Cars: 1805-1942. 3rd Edition, Edited by Beverly Rae Kimes and Henry Austin Clark, page 480: Dodge - Series D12 & D13 - Six: Continuing the practice of offering a junior series Dodge in the Canadian and export markets, Plymouth again supplied body, chassis and running gear to Dodge. A Dodge grille and trim gave the cars separate identity. Export junior Dodges were again built in the U.S. while Windsor built conversion mainly for the Canadian marketplace. Nearly 6,800 D12 Sixes of U.S. origin were sold, 3,438 were right-hand drive, 38 fitted with the small-bore (2 7/8 inch) export engine; 2,924 were shipped as built-up units, the remaining 3,885 as CKD ( completely knocked down) units for final overseas assembly. Windsor accounted for an additional 10,328 units for the Canadian trade.
  10. After a typical Wisconsin winter and no response to his advertisement, this business coupe might well be closing in on a realistic price...

  12. The cast iron CIBA block arrived with the 1949 models but many of the earlier cars were retrofitted when the COBRA failed. A Crosley expert will have to chime in here, but I suspect this car has the CIBA engine which is a good deal more robust. For tooling round locally, taking the grandkids for ice cream etc. this would be the ideal choice before a side-by-side and a whole lot cooler!

  15. For Sale: 1959 Mercury Montclair 2 Door hardtop - $9,500 - South Austin, TX 1959 Mercury - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale (craigslist.org) 1959 Mercury Montclair 2 Door hardtop. Has 383 MEL engine with Merc-o-matic transmission. When was the last time you saw one? Have you ever seen one? They did not sell very many when they were new and most of those were gone within ten years. This is a complete running and driving car but it is sixty years old so it will always need attention. I have owned it 7 years. A few years ago I drove it to Lake Charles and back with zero issues (but a trunk full of tools just in case). This is a northern car so it has rust. It had cheap "restoration" some years before I got it but now the paint is peeling and the bondo is cracking. The seats were re-covered but they did not replace the foam or the springs. A 20 footer, maybe a thirty footer but a complete car you can drive as is or restore. Either way you will have the only one in town. Clear blue title in my name, cash only local sale, $9500, call or text. 16. Ed: If every DV-32 built still were extant, there still wouldn't be enough to go around to all of us who want one!
  17. There might be an upside for this '37 Twelve when the neophile who bought it finds out how much it will cost to restore it but has bragged to his contemporaries about his shrewd purchase and feels compelled to spend a fortune to restore it regardless of how uneconomic the ultimate costs. Such are those driven by personal vanity...

  21. Ed: Only a two year wonder, 1961-'62, roughly around 30K sold all told. The Corvair Greenbriar van was the choice for passenger and cargo space, these were a superfluous model. Rust ate them alive in the Northeast, survival rate is near zero.
