  1. JamesR: Thank you for the kind endorsement of our efforts to highlight prospective old car choices that might represent a good quality-to-dollars ratio. Demonstrating how untrue the old saying about how no one can find decent quality collector cars for under $10K is a fun challenge as well. You'll note many of the cars I post are unusual, rarely seen at shows now. I'll admit some selfish motivation as well. That's because I've become very tired and bored with the generally narrow selection of popular cars that appears at every cruise night and local show. Its my hope that at least a few of these unusual cars get taken up by collectors, and a some point, some fellow like me will be delighted to discover a car like this 1947 Dodge Custom town sedan among the sea of muscle cars...
  2. We had a garage owner mechanic here in my small town when I was a kid in the early 1960's that had an explosive temper. Although a skilled and talented fellow who could fix anything, do mechanical and body work, when he went off, duck! If we happened to be with our dad when he was at a garage across the street from the fellow in question in the summertime, one would hear a stream of invective that would make a sailor blush, see a hammer fly and hit the wall across the garage bays. Those dents were still there when they tore the building down a few years ago...
  3. Maxwell was still a reasonably ubiquitous car in the early 1920's, not on the scale of the Model T Ford but still popular: 1919: 47,408; 1920: 22,355; 1921:15,706; 1922: 48,850; 1923: 58,313; 1924: 49,857. Because they were more expensive than a Model T, a Victrola salesman would rather be seen driving something better than the Model T just to imply he was solid and successful. Better if he could have driven a Buick Six which also offered a four passenger coupe with an integrated trunk. Where as Maxwell had a shaky reputation, Buick was a paragon of solid reliability.
  4. Ed: Very good likelihood that was the case, though examining images of the windshield pillars of factory-supplied convertibles and the Metropolitan Town Brougham by Brunn, that company must have replaced the factory windshield with their own cast design. Have you had the chance to examine a Brunn in detail to ascertain what method was employed?
  5. Early 1920's Maxwell four passenger coupes had an integrated trunk and a less-than-stellar reputation for reliability.

These are nearly as scarce as the Deluxe three passenger coupe of which 27,600 were built in the same model years.

  8. Removing the tracks affectively ended the railroad forever. We have miles of greenway rails-to-trails recreation paths here in Western New York.
  9. I've read about the N,S & T in railroad publications. Electric railways were also prevalent here in Western New York as well. Before the private passenger car displaced them, they were an economical, efficient method of transportation which we unfortunately discarded.
  10. The Brunn Cabriolet was available both as collapsible (landaulet) and non-collapsible form. Priced a $6,800 new, certainly was a sad end for such an expensive, elegant coach-built car twelve years later. But, then, no doubt NYC region junkyards were full of cast-off town cars by the advent of WWII.
  11. Does that ever deserve a better look! 1936 Cadillac either 75 or 85.
  12. On your first question, as Bryankazmer pointed out, being a smaller manufacturer with decisions made directly by the Graham brothers, they could move more quickly on a styling trend than could GM. Graham, also because of its small market presence, needed a 'hook' or 'schtick' to gain greater attention, to make their cars distinct from the styling saturation by GM. Tooling cost would be the same whether they took the safe route blending in with the prevailing themes or presented incrementally progressive styling as seen in the Graham "Blue Streak". On your second question: The REO Royale and 1932-'33 Buick thermostatically-controlled hood doors, as opposed to stamped hood louvers, were those makers adopting a luxury feature first seen on the 1928 Packard Eight 443. As with any styling feature introduced by luxury car makers, it was seen as a feature that could be employed to elevate one's cars above the general lower-priced cars that continued with stamped louvers due to their lower production costs. Eventually, hood doors were included even in low-priced cars like the 1932 GM lines, by which time the next streamlining trend which was long, horizontal-styled and trimmed both louvers and hood doors began appeared on a variety of cars.
  13. Very typical high plains car: sunburned paint, dried-up interior trim, usual dents and nicks, rarely low mileage but generally solid low-rust sheet metal and good chrome, especially the pot-metal.
  14. Yes, The unfortunate family members dealing with loss also have to dispose of their loved one's earthly possessions, among which is an old car about which they know absolutely nothing. Well, They likely 'know' just one thing: how much the dear depart one told them repeatedly how extremely valuable that car is or would be restored. Ergo, now that is disposition is an estate matter, the executor has the responsibility to be diligent and extract as much of that 'value' from its sale as possible. In this case, maybe divide the asking price by 3 or 3.5 to get a reasonable price, dependent upon how much really has been restored. We're going to see this Cadillac for sale for a long time.
  15. A.J. Want to get a nasty response from the '29 Cadillac seller? Email him your handy graph to determine a project cars value. Guaranteed his response wont be fit to re-post here!

The car is a great driver quality classic car. I just recently changed the brakes all the way around. I also recently replaced all rubber fuel lines in the engine compartment with custom bent steel lines. The car runs and drives great. It would make a great driver for someone. Feel free to ask any questions. Note: The car is sold without a title as GA state law does not require it for a car of this age. Sold with bill of sale only. I also would consider trading for a 1930s to 1940s vehicle of similar value that runs and drives. $6,000 obo. Contact: no phone listed. 19. 1927-'28 Lincoln L Cabriolet by Brunn. one of the Series 159 semi-custom catalogued styles.
  20. Hyman, Ltd. had it for sale in the Hershey Car Corral a few years ago.
  21. "a trimmer's nightmare, but cool" Cool?!? Anything but as soon as the sun comes out from behind the clouds! About like those Plexiglas lift-off hardtops for convertibles that appeared briefly just after WWII.
  22. Quite true, albeit a rather special one. Funny, I've never found just a used car like that on Honest Marv's used car lot, only clapped-out Rambler Americans and rusty Chevy Biscaynes...
  23. Anyone who has driven one, tell us how they perform? In a relatively light body even with the 287 seems like they should have spritely performance. The two door sedans have fairly low sales numbers as most Rambler Classic buyers sprung for a four door sedan or wagon.
