I don't know much as to how the spark advance is accomplished on this car but I assure you it can exceed 50 mph. I believe that you are using retarded spark which will cause over heating To start car retard spark when started advance spark fully. Al

I use shell rotella 15-40 since 1961 and no problems my cars range from 1923 - 1965 and there are 5 of them. Al

I would check the speed governor it controls the solenoid. Al

If the cupping is't to bad the tire can be shaved by some tire shops and still be useable Al

If you do not have a radio use non resistor plugs but either will work.

Bill First I enjoy the Avanti episodes you all are having ,a frend of mine had a new one and now one of my neighbors owns it. Now for the tire question when I changed to radial on my 53 chevy the recommended size was about an inch smaller od then the original which was not to my likeing so I went to the local tire shop and found a radial tire that was the same od and slightly wider, they work just fine. Now for the bad part the spare does not fit the tire tub in the trunk I will make the tub wider about 3/4 inch. Al

My 98 lost the gasket at 80000 mi replaced with an after market gasket that has a metal sleeve where the egr valve goes through it because heat melted the plastic causing leak, now have 266626 mi and no problems, except body of car is going away fast. Al

I have used contact cement for filler in the ball socket and it will allow some movement and last about a year and then it's do over time again. I have done this for five years on my corvair out side mirror.

I see that it has black VA tag if it is in VA there is another repo at the train mueseum in Roanoke that looks very real
