  1. I also have some Buick Woodies, but they are not appropriate here!! LOL Mike
  2. Well, all these fine cars, and not a single Woodie?? I need to rectify that, pronto!! I just recently acquired this delicious pair of 1948 Pontiac Woodies, and I am chomping at the bit to make some new wood for them!! It's all the other stuff that is tough...costly, big time, etc. You know what I mean, no? Anyway, these pics show the first one being hauled to its new home, with shade cloth & a cargo net over the wood to allow freeway speeds with no wood loss!! (It took me years of experience to figure out that combo!!) But it really works, so take note!! I spoke years ago with a fella in AZ who was selling a 1941 Packard Woodie, and asked him how would he describe the wood, and he said, "Well, if you were to load this on an open trailer and haul it to LA, there would be no wood left!" And he was not far away...about 2-300 miles!! Tarps flap and do damage. If rain is expected, no worries, it will dry out in no time, trust me on that!! Especially at freeway speeds (or faster!!). This pair did well in their travels, and I hope to make some progress this summer. I will start a new thread with any progress, this is just an intro...and some PontiacWoodies to boot!! By the way, check out the new, well relatively new, link to the National Woodie Club in this AACA forum. Wood is good!! Mike
  3. Do you still have this? I may be in a position to buy it. Mike 661 766 9141
  4. Well, another fortunate derelict Woodie is on its way to a restoration shop!! It is a 1951 Ford, found on eBay!! Not mine, I have my hands full!!
  5. I recently scored this gem on eBay, it is an ice chest. It is just the right size for a six-pack!
  6. It has been pretty cold here, so I have been hibernating!! It is warming, now, so I am waking up!! Where's the food!!! LOL
  7. Come n, Fresno is just a couple of hours further!! Show some backbone!! LOL
  8. Napa, Fresno...Hey, Hotel California, not much difference!! LOL
  9. HMMM! I thought Ionia was only building Woodies...wood-bodied wagons, that is. Read that 1953 and earlier. Enlighten me if I am wrong. Thanks, Mike
  10. Hey, if you get a bid on eBay, and somebody shows good reliable interest off eBay, you can always close the auction. No problem, you just cancel the bids, part of ending an auction. You are close to me (I am near Bakersfield), so I am keeping an eye on it!! (Oh, just what I need...another project!!) LOL Cheers, Mike
  11. I couldn't find the rear door straight panel, still looking, but I found the round ones. They have surface rust, but no rot out, and just minor dings. Let me know if you are interested, Mike
  12. I just noticed you don't need the front door piece, I do have the rear door piece also. Mike
  13. I have a passenger side front door panel. I also have both sides of the rear door roundish pieces. I will dig them out and send some pictures. Where are you? I am in California. Mike
  14. Did you two make a deal? Keep us informed!! LOL I have some goodies also!! (Don't want to step on your toes, Pete!!) Cheers to you both, Mike
  15. The wood is not just glamor... it is also structural! I mean it is working, hard!! The heavy steel roof is supported by the wood from the "C" pillar on back. (That is from the pillar behind the rear door.) Beautiful! Like a gladiator!! Working hard, but still glamorous!
  16. I stumbled on this thread, after having read it long ago...fun to reminisce!! I also had spoken to this seller, years ago, but never went to see the 3 Woodies...too far away!! I wonder what ever happened to them. But I have a 1950 Roadmaster awaiting a full restoration, maybe as intimate as the one in this thread, but at least the wood is not a problem, for me, anyway!! And I do have a sedan donor car, and a full set of wood patterns. Perhaps, one day..... LOL
  17. I am not sure about your 54 Chevy "Tin Woodie's" interior having any wood. I have enjoyed and owned several of the 1948 and older, full wood bodied Woodies, which obviously have a full wood interior. In the last few years I have enjoyed and owned some 1950-53 Buicks, which my friend Jenny calls "Waistcoat Woodies"!! They have almost no wood inside except the rear upper & lower tailgates, which are totally wood, and some minor trim along the headliner sides. I suspect the early tin woodies, meaning 1949-50, had some interior wood, but by 54, I would think it would be replaced with vinyl. Anybody else???
  18. Thanks for waking me up, Rob!! My 1942 Olds has a center vertical strip, two panes of glass. I believe the same wood was used until 1947, then Fisher Body built the Woodies for the 1948 Olds & 1946-8 Chevy. It may be off of one of those. I checked my 1948 Pontiac, and it looks similar, with a single pane of glass, but it is around 54-55" wide at the bottom, and 17" tall. I added some pictures of it, not very good ones!! They all use that same hardware for latching, as do the 1946-48 & 1950-53 Buicks. The 47 Buick has two panes of glass, and the 50-53 use a single curved glass.
  19. Woodies now have their own forum, under the National Woodie Club. It is about 3/4 of the way scrolling down the list of forums. [h=2]National Woodie Club[/h] (2 Viewing) For all woody enthusiasts and owners of wood bodied cars and trucks.
  20. Well, I dragged out my 3 wire wheels, and dusted them off, but I cannot find any stampings on them. (Perhaps you could send a picture of the stamping, & showing just where it is.) I know one is aftermarket, but the others were supposed to be original. ??? One measures 6 1/2" where the tire goes, or 7 1/2" overall, it is shown in the pictures named #1 & #2. Rolling the cursor over each pic will show its number, and they can be enlarged. The other 2 are 6" where the tire goes, or 7" overall, pictures #3-#6. (They got inserted backwards, starting with #6.) They don't have any dings or dents that I can see, and the chrome varies with each, but pitting seems minimal overall. I am not sure if any will fit your needs, but if so, I would like $60 for any one wheel, $100 for any two, or $135 for all three, plus shipping. They would be shipped separately. One thing to note is that these wheels are prone to breaking spokes. All 3 wheels look like all spokes are there in decent shape. You may want to check your wheels for that.
  21. I have a friend who had a couple of Sportsmans, and he just may have some old wood. I just phoned him, but he was out, I left a message. When I speak with him, I will let you know here, either way. Mike
  22. Rob, I have heard that same story about birds-eye maple being set aside and for Ford execs. I also heard it was assembled on Mercury wagons also, 1942-1948 vintage. They also liked to have at least one piece on each Woodie produced.
  23. I have a pair of original K-H wheels, quite used but not too bad...at least they are the original ones. Sounds like they will match your pair. Mike
