  1. Hey Dale, I tried your search for " Pictures of 1948 Pontiac station wagons"...I was overwhelmed!! Thanks for the suggestion...never tried that before!! LOL Now to try it for Buicks!! Lookout!! LOL Cheers, Mike
  2. Thanks, Keith, the other one has enough patterns to finish off both, at least I do believe. I won't really know until I actually see it...this coming Sat. (Pins & needles!!) However, I feel a little self conscious having it in the Buick section, due to the previous entry above yours. He has a valid point, but I have enjoyed this Buick section so very much, and most of the other sections don't seem nearly as enthusiastic. This pair is my first venture into Pontiacs, well, since I discovered this forum, and I am head over heels into Buicks...Woodies, of course, so it seemed natural to add some other Woodies here. Maybe I am wrong...I am sorry if so. Perhaps I noticed some other threads I have followed and enjoyed seemed to deviate from the original thought, so I thought, in my enthusiasm, it was OK. Perhaps there needs to be a Woodie section!! Woodies can combine any make, and that is what I am used to, being into Woodies for the last 40+ years. Cheers, Mike
  3. Yes, Kieth, totally reconfigured!! It started life as a station wagon, but got reconvened as a pickup... Not a bad offering, but it must go back...it is crying out to me, to do just that!! I will!!! Mike
  4. By the way, they used a cut down rear door for the center section of the cab back. Complete with roll down window!! Mike
  5. I unloaded it today, and tidied it up a bit. The left front tire kept going soft, so I had to keep filling it. Once it was off the trailer, I changed it with an extra tire & rim that was in the bed. All three seats are there, in not too bad shape. Mark, I have it outside under my awning, but it will soon be shoehorned inside, as soon as I can figure out where!! Then, there is the second one...... LOL Rob, too bad you couldn't get a peek at the Chevy Woodie!! Cheers, Mike
  6. Actually there wasn't much in the way of loose wood on this one. I have a large sheet of shade cloth I use under this cargo net if there is worry about small pieces coming off. These work well because air can pass through, so no flapping. A flapping tarp can do more damage than good. I don't worry about rain, since it will dry quickly at 60 mph!! I think the second Woodie will need the shade cloth... Mike
  7. Hey, forget the chrome, there is very restorable wood on this Woodie, too bad so much is missing!! No, don't forget the chrome, I was just as surprised, it is very nice, and this one runs, drives, and the brakes even work!! On the way home... I was accosted by a young lady, while in a gas station, who was staring at this beast the moment she alighted from her car on the other side of our pump island. As I approached after paying for fuel, she was looking at it, and blurted out loud, "Hey, this door has wood on it!" As she got closer, she exclaimed, "No, it is ALL wood!" Totally mesmerized, she didn't even notice me as I arrived there, so funny. I tried to explain to her it is a station wagon, but she didn't want to hear that. NO, she said, it is a truck, and you must keep it that way!! Meanwhile, Frank, my helping buddy was returning with some refreshments on the other side of our rig, and then took his cellphone and started to take some pictures of it. When he appeared from the rear, she exclaimed, "Wow, you are taking some pictures?" And she promptly took a pose, saying, "Take a shot of me with this beauty." Which he did, several. She insisted in giving me her email address, and insisted on me sending her some pictures of it, which I will do. Woodies are great, making all kinds of friends..... (It is not the first time that a youngster has never even heard of wood bodied wagons, I love to show them off, and enlighten them!!) Loving it all the time!! I will be unloading it this weekend, and will try to get some better pictures here. Cheers, Mike PS: Picking up the other one a week tomorrow, Sat Mar 31...
  8. Here are a few pictures of the first one, still on my trailer...it was an exhausting day!! I will post more in the next few days, when I recover!! Mike
  9. I have a slew of Buick Woodies, and I have threads open on some of them. But, I recently was offered a pair of 1948 Pontiac Woodies that the seller wanted to keep together. His main objective is to see both restored, and they need each other to provide all the wood patterns. I feel like the "Woodie Rescue"!! But, I do feel that same way, so perhaps it is appropriate. I am going to pick the first one up in the AM, and probably won't get much sleep tonight...OK, since I have to leave at O'dark:30!! Read that as way early!! Yes, this is a Buick forum, but I just had to say something...I am so excited!! I will post some pictures of the venture. And I will be picking up the other one at the end of the month, so those will be added also. Talk about pins & needles!! Cheers, Mike
  10. I find the same thing. The wagons don't have the spare tire well, on the right side, so when I find a sedan well, I have to fabricate the level floor over where the well is. Not an easy task!! I took a wagon well, that I had carefully cut out of a bad wagon, to the sandblaster just a couple of weeks ago. It was peppered with holes all over, and he barely touched it!! Back to the drawing board!! I happened to have a sedan one, so I took it to him, and it came out well, but I have to deal with the tire well. Just the fun of the job!! And, nobody said it would be easy, right?? The pictures show the bad rear section to be repaired on the wagon, then the bad well, then the good well. I will probably use some of the bad well to fill in the tire well on the good one. Cheers, Mike
  11. The floors weren't all that good on that 2-door I sold. You may have a hard time finding one with good enough floors, at least that is my experience. I am always scrounging for good floors!! Thanks for the kind words, Mike
  12. Pete, that wood doesn't look like white ash, it doesn't have the grain patterns that ash produces. I added some rear shots of 3 different Woodies to show my point. Mike
  13. I have run across a few 52 2 door hardtops, and I would think the floors are the same as your convertible. There are gussets at the front door pillars, at the floor level, and at the rear of the doors. A 4 door wouldn't be the same, but you may find the floors are very close except for the gussets. I restore Woodies of the era, and they also have these gussets at the front, and are usually rotted away, as are the floors. Keep in mind, after you are done repairing the rusted out floors, they are completely covered, and only seen from below...so much work, hidden!! LOL So, if a 4 door is close, you can make it work. The gussets can be made, I had several sets done reasonably, and they look really good, and work well. Good luck with your project, and I hope you keep us all informed. Cheers, Mike
  14. What a lot of negative stuff about Sears tires! LOL I used their tires years ago, not wide whites, and had very good luck with them. Hey, these tires being offered are old, and still hanging in there, so perhaps the earlier ones were better than the bad reports listed above...who knows? I would like to know the size, since I am not familiar with 55 Buicks or their tire size. I have a 1948 Pontiac that could possibly use these, if they are close enough to the size. It is a Woodie, needing restoration, but I love to make them look good while being restored with a set of wide whitewalls...these may be perfect. OK, I have some Buick Woodies too!! Cheers, Mike
  15. I must admit I am disappointed that ne-er a Buick Woodie was nominated for the favorite, but perhaps I am biased!! My favorite is shown here, a 1951 Super Estate Wagon which I have been slaving over for the last several years. The latter pics show it in its forlorn condition when it arrived here. Anybody who has replaced all the screws into these Woodies knows what I mean, leave alone the wood!! There is a fortune of screws in these relics, but worth every twisting of the screwdriver. When this is done, I am working on a pair of Estate Wagons, a 1950 and a 1952, both Roadmasters, and they will probably preempt this Super as my favorite, but right now, this is it. Cheers, Mike
  16. I would doubt it, since Buicks used lug bolts, and the others didn't. There wouldn't be any of the extra holes for the locating pin. I assume Buick still used lug bolts during the years mentioned, since all my earlier ones did. Mike
  17. I was into vintage Volvos, years ago (until I discovered Buicks), and the prize Volvo was their 1956 P1900. It was a pretty fibreglass convertible sports car, 2 seater, with a production of, I believe, around 67, total. It was based on the running gear of the PV444s of the era. I found one, and was totally elated, that is until I got into it to drive it. The top of the door hit my left shoulder, shoving me to the right, by about 6", and the large center console was shoving my legs & torso to the left!! I was a twisted mess!! As giddy as I was, I couldn't drive it, and I had to pass, even though it was very reasonably priced. I was young and slim back then...today, the steering wheel would be twisting me into even more of a pretzel!! Perhaps, dasaint80, you should get a Roadmaster, then maybe you eating habits wouldn't need as much of an overhaul!! Cheers, Mike
  18. I have had trouble opening PM's, and just cannot seem to send one!! So I just add my email address, and phone # in the threads...it does work, so far, every time!! Unbelievable, BJM, you not only offered those caps free, but were willing to clean them up and ship free also!! I agree that $$ are too important in the hobby, but you are a rare gem!! My hat's off to you!! Oh dear, I never wear hats...OK, I salute you!! LOL Cheers, Mike
  19. Bill, They arrived, thanks, they are great!! Mike
  20. I have a 53 parts car, let me know if you still are looking for the one hood hinge. mikesoldecars@yahoo.com I am in CA. Cheers, Mike
  21. Rob, First of all, I never wear red... Santa always does!! I don't!! Ever!! And my beard is even longer now, as is my hair!! NO RED!! OK, I have a red shirt on today, Sunday...nobody has seen me!! LOL The netting, well it kept most...some of it..oh, really, who knows?? I didn't see any wrecks behind me, and trust me I was watching the mirror more than the road ahead!! What a relief as we approached Andy's home. It almost collapsed as we unloaded it!! I have given up on old trailers, that one was a 1939, and am sticking to Woodies, problems as they are, also in transporting them. I once inquired about a 1941 Packard Woodie in AZ, and the guy described it this way: "If you were to load this on an open trailer, by the time you enter CA, there would be no wood left!!" It was not very far from the CA border!! And I was way further past the CA border at its final destination, so I passed, and have regretted it ever since!! Cheers, Mike
