  1. The chrome layer was done to hold the shine. Remember it was not originally actually polished, but manufactured from processed shiny stainless sheets. If you strip the chrome off, then polish the stainless, it will last a very long time, probably longer than the chromed method. Polishing the surface closes any pores or flaws, which is why it is an arduous task, it takes time to do that. The chrome has to be removed first, though, since it very hard to polish off. I found most of the full wheel covers of the fifties had a layer of chrome, so I routinely took them to a plater who would strip them for me. Cheers, Mike
  2. OK, I see where I can follow the link, and I did... could not figure that out last night, must have been sleepier than I thought! Yes, it is the same one...long story!! But I wound up with them both!! Cheers, Mike
  3. Guess I did miss it!! Can't possibly keep up with everything!! So, where did it go? HMMM... If I took off the extra portholes, perhaps youse guys wouldn't recognize it!! LOL Mike
  4. 50jetback, Do I know you? Why does it look familiar? Cheers, Mike
  5. Yeah, and they are all decent!! I am glad they held off on putting any more on!! Mike
  6. My contact info is: Email: mikesoldecars@yahoo.com Phone # is: 661 766 9141 Thanks, Mike
  7. This 1952 Buick Hardtop Project car is offered for sale. I acquired this in a trade, and was going to use it as a donor car for one of my Woodies, but realized it is too nice to cut up. A desert car that has very little rust, but needs total restoration. It runs & moves & stops, but as is obvious, needs work to make it roadworthy again. The tires are decent & there is a used spare in the trunk. What you see is what you get, with a clean California title and current registration & license plates. Please let the photos do the talking, I can add more if you want. There is rust behind the drivers side rear fender trim, a small hole in the trunk & some rust in the rear floor. Roof has some dents, easy fix. Great Project for the Buick Enthusiast. Asking $4,000 I have a friend who hauls cars anywhere in the US, and he is coming here a couple of times in the next month or so. He is very reasonable, especially since he is coming here anyway. I can hook you up. The last picture shows his rig, loaded. Mike
  8. This is what I have, if interested email me at: mikesoldecars@yahoo.com
  9. I picked up a pair of beautiful NOS hood hinges for a 1942 Olds 98, thinking they might work on my 1942 68 Series. They don't!! Nowhere near! So, now they are sitting here gathering dust, and perhaps there is someone out there that can use them. I believe I only gave $25 for them, so that would the price, or make an offer!! Shipping not included. There are not many 1942 Olds of any model out there, but perhaps they will fit later 98's, any info would be appreciated. They are part #'s 497140 & 417941 left & right. Thanks, Mike
  10. I may have a pair of them, from a 52, complete visors with brackets. I have a parts car with them, but I just bought another running one. I will pick up the second one this Sunday, and if it doesn't need them, these will be available. I will keep you posted, Mike
  11. I am mistaken, they do have a current listing, #300527187888 The title reads: New Shock Link 1941-53 Buick Special Super Roadmaster The price: $17.49 However the description indicates they are sold separately, but that was the price I paid for a pair, so you may want to clarify that issue. 6 are available, so go for it!! Mike
  12. OK!!! I found it!! Oh, sorry, I am referring to the 7 1/2" shock link vendor. The seller's eBay username is: machine4speed They were listed for $17.49, which is what I paid for two pairs each, very reasonable, especially when I add in the factor that they are the correct length. I had been searching for any vendors who were selling the era shock links, and asking them the big question about the "length", and receiving replies varying as much as 1" always shorter...amazing!! My old worn out originals measure 7.5", so that is what I want to replace them with. I never measured the old ones before I purchased these, but these fit well, and upon reading this thread, promptly went out and measured them, since I still had the old ones. I finally figured just how to retrieve my "hidden" eBay purchases, took me awhile, but got there, and there they were!! machine4speed doesn't seem to have any current listings, but I am going to contact them after posting this, to see if there is still availability. Mike
  13. Well, I have labored over my computer for hours, trying to trace the 7 1/2" shock link vendor, with no success! I just may happen on it, so I will post any further findings. They were originally listed on eBay, so I have set up a search and will recognize them if they show up again. Mike
  14. Front or rear fender, and what model is it? I have some rear fenders from a 4 door. Mike
  15. I bought a couple of pairs on eBay, recently, and they are 7 1/2" center to center. They were also quite reasonable, seems they were about $30 with shipping. I will try to figure out where they came from and let you know. I remember they were from the Stockton area in California. I see one of you are selling your 7" set on eBay. Mike
  16. I did some research...finally finding just where I had put my 1947 Buick Estate Wagon taillights for safe-keeping. The lens is not Guide R13, but Guide R45. It does not look like a R13, see by my added pictures, but it would interchange since they are the same size OD and hole pattern. The first 3 pictures show the R45 lens, the third picture is the inside of the lens. The last picture (5) shows a R13 lens in use on my 42 Olds Woodie. I have added a shot of the Buick bucket (4th picture) showing the 3 bulbs. In all my years working on Woodies, I have never run across a bucket set up as this one is. The two outside bulbs are dual filament, and the center one is single. I have never seen one of these gems lit up, so I will need to do more research when I get to the stage of installing and wiring them!! By the way, if you right click on any picture, you can open it in a new window and it comes much larger, and can usually be enlarged even more by left clicking it. Mike
  17. The Estate Wagon windshields are square cornered at each side, at the top. All the other models are radiused. There may be other differences, but that one is easy to observe. Perhaps it will help to identify any Cadillac or Oldsmobile junkyard windshields that may interchange. Mike
  18. I have a friend with a 51 & a 53, both Woodies, and he recently found a NOS rear window and obviously jumped on it. Well, who wouldn't, if you know these wagons!! Paid through the nose for it, I might add!! (Well, that is my opinion!!) Both of his wagons have rear windows, so this is a spare. Knowing how hard these are to find, I am willing to approach him to sell it, if you are serious. Let me know, but I have no idea how he will respond. Or just how much he will want for it. Hey, this is out of the blue!! He really enjoyed the find!! I am just trying to help. Cheers, Mike
  19. Hi Rob, I have 4 Buick Woodies, 1950-1953, one of each year, and 4 rear windows, slated for each of them. These windows are difficult to find. (An understatement!!) I have recently found one and had an immediate buyer for it, but I do run into them occasionally, so thanks for the heads up. I will check it out. When found, they are usually quite pricey!! Regards, Mike
  20. Buicks did not use the common Guide R-13 lens. And the windowless bucket is unique, also, since it has 3 bulbs & sockets inside instead of the 2 on most buckets. Mike
  21. Brian, That is not a mistake, just think how gorgeous it will look with ALL of it shiny!! Mike
  22. I have several of these lenses, they seem to be unique for 46-48 Buick Wagons. Other make GM Woodies had their license plates mounted on the left light, with a window on the bottom to light it up. They usually came with this single light, but another one without the window or the license bracket was available for the right side. Buick wagons came with two lights, and the license was mounted below, on the rear bumper with a separate light, so they don't have the window in either bucket. Did you find one? Mike
  23. I had a shop in the LA, CA area for about 12 years, repairing & polishing stainless, and it was so rewarding...it, stainless, responds so very well! I am too old to do very much polishing now (although, I still have the equipment!!), it is quite intensive, requiring a lot of stamina, but so very rewarding to see the results. Glad you opted to do it, and so very glad you had someone to send it to!! He should be getting a lot of enjoyment from making your stainless shine!! For him...and for you!! But, for you longer!! Cheers, Mike
  24. There you go, good reply, I love it!! I have been there before about mounting trims (not an easy task), and having to remove them later...for whatever reason (especially, not an easy task), I hope all is good, money well spent!! Cheers, Mike
