  1. You are missing then, the rod that goes from the bottom of the steering colum, to the bottom of the carb linkage. I will take a photo today of ours and post it for you to see.
  2. Ladys and gentelman..... we have a winner!! By far Fred the best speedster project I have seen to date! On this form, and any where else I might add. And I am not saying that just because I'm a Hudson nut. For all of us that follow this speedster form, Im going to say well done. For those of you are reading this, I have known this car for almost 40 years now. this car has been on Vancouver Island for most of it's life. And I had the privalidge to sit in it and go for a ride when I was about 8 years old with its long past owner Jack.... last name is gone. This would be back in the early 70's. Some where I have a Photo of that day. Fred is now the currant care taker of this car, and has taken on the last care takers dream to bring it to what it is today. for those of you that are on the internet for brass cars, you may recongnize freds name for his search for the proper wheels as I believe, it had cadilac wheels on it. He is now getting made the proper Hudson style wheels and hubs for this speedster. This is what this Hudson Looked liked from the factory... .This is what It looks like today This my speedster friends, is what a speedster is all about!!
  3. Sanddoc, -All your ignition needs are readily evadible in the HET club magazine called the White Triangle News. -The levers on the steering wheel- One is for advance/ retard. The other is for throttle. -You do not want to put an alt. on this car. The original charging system will work fine for you for regular driving. - you will always want to start the car in full retard, then, as soon as it fires up bring it back to full advanced. - I'm not going to tell you the direction of the levers. You need to understand that on your own so that you better understand your car. It's easy, just pop off the cap, get the hand crank out and watch the direction of the rotor. Then figure out advaned spark by the direction the dist. moves, same for retard. Same with the throttle, get under the hood, watch the linkage, understand how it works. Every car is differant on how it she will fire, you just need to get to know her. on our 25 to start. full choke for less than one crank then push in choke lever......purrrrrrrr - the plugs you want to use are 18mm long reach Champion D-16 gap at 25 thou. This is very important as I stated in my first post.. You Must have oil pressure of 2 to 5 lbs !! If you do not, turn the motor off. If the car has not ran for a long time the oil pump can get sticky. Jon37 is always telling Hudson people where to go on this form ( LOL ) The sites he has recomended are all good for Hudsons in general, but the best for us "old time Hudson " people is at http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/HudsonSuperSix16-29/info .... and its free. The people thier are only interested in the old Hudsons, ( the good ones ) Good luck and ask all the questions you want. And please.... Post some pictures!! Paul
  4. Fred, we all love pictures here. Posting pictures on this site is not for the faint of heart. Give it a try, and if you have problems, you can email them to me and I'll post them for you. Paul.
  5. Here is one for ya.... by the asking price I think it comes with a slightly used crack pipe !! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1937-HUDSON-TERRAPLANE-PICKUP-/281181680837?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4177bbf4c5
  6. You will have two leavers on your streering wheel. one for throtle and one for spark advance/retard. The linkages you are refering to that are under the distibutar housing go to the oil pump and controll the stroke of the pump. You will want to find the max stroke on you pump and dummy up the leaver so that it stays in a fixed possition of maximum stroke. ( it was a bad Idea Hudson had ) You MUST make sure that you have oil pressure from you pump. 2 to 5lbs is all you will get and need. If you do not have oil pressure, you will strarve your dipper tray and run a bearing. Please post a photo of what you have.
  7. Its very simple. It is all done on line. Its done threw the USA customs. You email a copy of title and bill of sale. They email you back telling you when you can export the car. It takes them 72 hours to process this ( buisness days only ). When you are ready to bring the car in to Canada, driving it or trailering it, You stop at the US customs and show them the original title and there paper work that they emailed you earlyer. They stamp it and give you the needed paper work that you then proceed with to the Canadian customs. The US customs will not even look at your car. Its just paper work. You must use a Boarder crossing that is for Export. Not all crossings on the US side do this.
  8. The wheel base would help as well. The front Knuckle does look early Hudsonish, But its not. The running board brackets tell me that. Neat find. Dig it out and get some better photo's.
  9. I am sorry, but I do not get the purpose of you post, nor do I understand your last statement. I was schooled with the saying, " buyer beware". There has been a many a time that I have purchased a car site unseen and driven hundreds of miles with the total faith of thinking the seller knows what there talking about only to get there and find junk that was presented by an excited seller that in reality new nothing about the car or the hobby. Not his fault. In you statement it is like you bought a packedge of meat from the grocery store, put it in your fridge, then it expired before the due date, so now you have become a vegetarian. you took some chances and got burned, so now your going to dislike the felling of driving a nice old car down the road? Just my thoughts with no intention to offend.
  10. I cant find much for a 31, But this is what a 32 looks like, Sounds as if your find is a modified version,
  11. I looked it up, Free wheeling option was introduced by Hudson in May of 1931
  12. I cant help with the extra shifter, but likely its the "free wheel'' option, but I cant say for sure when Hudson put that out. As for the Plate, Hudson was a Major Exporter of cars and the Asian lettering is Patent language. It is interesting to me that In our Hudson collection 4 of our american left hand drive cars have the asian lettering, but we have two cars " built for export " right hand drive, and no asian lettering on the data plate.
  13. A very interesting post. Nice job. Can you give more details on the product you used. Out of intrest, did you guage the cylinder walls? Were linners ever considerd?
  14. If essex, they would be 29. as 28 and later we painted buckets. Not sure if they changed style like Hudson did for 1930.
  15. I bet he's excited! It is nice to hear that it's going to be used.
  16. I got off me arse and looked in a book They are for 48 Hudson.
  17. Top left are Hudson front fender spears and the other is Hudson hood ornament. not sure if the from the same year of car. Not sure of year as im not up on new hudson stuff.
  18. TheMoneyPit, FYI. The cap you show on your Essex 4 rad, is the essex version of Icarus. They were only made and sold on 1928 Hudson's and Essex's. The cap base is differant as well from Hudson to essex.
  19. are you saying you built the car in the first photo?
  20. Cowl lamps from early 20's I have the same on one of my 24 Hudson finds.
  21. Keiser is correct. It is for desk top display. Not to mention the fact it is incomplet. The cap is gone.
  22. The craigslist App. for my I phone works very well. better than the pc version.
  23. There are lots of cast spoke wheels in the agriculture world. I have seen a lot of "rat rods" sporting them. It takes some work to get brake drums, but they look good and old.
  24. It's a 29. If it was close to home I'd grab it. Where is it?
